Re: Bumpie of the Week 6.1 - slartybartfast
ME!
What is your first name? Slarty (sorry we had so many trolls on my last BMB I'm feeling shy still)
When is your due date? Dec 16
What part of the world are you from (be as vague/specific as you want)? I mostly grew up in VA but now I live out west in a mountainy area
What number baby/pregnancy is this for you? 2/2
What is your occupation or dream occupation? I am in a specialized science field. I mostly work with contamination remediation and water resource characterization and protection. However. I'd love to have a singing voice like Alison Krauss or Susan Tedeschi or Aoife O'Donovan or Natalie Maines and get awesome at guitar and perform by night and train for ultra races (mtn bike and running) by day.
Does your/will your nursery have a theme or color combination? We'll use the same nursery eventually. We painted the walls yellow and used a bunch of the things we've picked up on our travels to decorate. For instance, DH used to be back and forth to Africa all the time and each time he would bring me back a little carved animal so now we have a whole zoo's-worth. They're on a little wall shelf. And we have maps and stuff up. It actually came together kind of nicely.
Have you bought anything for baby yet? A lotus guava travel crib and a LOT of hardboiled eggs and string cheese. And that inflatable tube chair (it's not here yet).
If you have bought things, what is your favorite thing that you have gotten so far? That travel crib is awesome. SO portable. So easy to set-up. Unfortunately they're kind of pricey and you can't really find them used like a pack-n-play.
What is your favorite part of pregnancy so far? ...if you've read any of my whiney posts you know I've been really sick... I guess that, so long as everything goes healthy, this will be my last pregnancy. So every day pregnant is a day I will never have to be pregnant again.
Do you have a favorite maternity/baby brand? 99.5% of our things are hand-me-downs but I do really like the stuff we were given from Janie and Jack and Hannah Anderson. And nothing is cuter than a toddler in Osh Kosh overalls
One thing you will splurge on this pregnancy? I think that travel crib was my splurge. OH. no. It's a doula. We're meeting with one Sunday and if we like her, we'll hire her. It's expensive but I have all kinds of fear about giving birth again. My first go was so rough. Healthy but really really rough. And I did sense how important my frame of mind was. I'm hoping to find an Obi Wan to guide me to the finish line.
What are your top pregnancy related priorities? Good gracious I'd like to get some fitness going. I'd love to be able to move without ralphing again. I felt last time that it was so healthy for baby too. That's a huge priority. Other than that I just need to get through this thing. I am NOT good at it.
What is your favorite book? I love the following series: Hitchhiker's Guide, Golden Compass, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, DaVinci Code. I really do like to read but I'm lazy about it. I demand that an author grab me quickly and then keep me.
What is your favorite tv show? Arrested Development no question. But also Orphan Black, I liked Weeds but I don't pay for media (except Amazon Prime) and I don't know how to watch it free. The Office, Modern Family...
What is your favorite movie? Once Upon a Time in Mexico, I Heart Huckabees, Chipmunk's Adventure
What is your favorite band/singer? Devon Sproule, Norah Jones, The Pixies, Enya, Dave Mathews Band, Wailin Jennys, Bela Fleck, Aoife O'Donovan, Union Station, Tedeschi-Trucks, CSN, Pitbull, Shakira, Marc Anthony, Ke$ha, Pat Metheny, Charlie Hunter.
Anything else you would like us to know? Today is my dog's birthday. I tear up telling the story of the day I adopted her. I was planning to take her camping tomorrow night but I'm sending the boys off with her while I stay at home in bed. She'll have a blast.
