Team green?

Okay I know it's way early but I'm trying to plan ahead. This is our first time not finding out the gender until baby is born. How do you prepare? I will buy baby items gender neutral but what did you do about clothing?

Re: Team green?

  • This is baby #3 for me and I already have a boy and a girl (I found out ahead of time with both) This is our first time going team green. I have a lot of clothes from both so I am good on everything. I will probably but 1 girl outfit and 1 boy outfit to bring to the hospital and the baby will wear whatever one on the way home from the hospital. I also have several sleepers that are gender neutral (yellow with ducks) that the baby can wear. I will just have to get both sets of newborn clothes out of storage before the baby comes

  • I found that some stores were better than others with the neutral choices. Target was good, lots of choices. Walmart was less good with almost exclusively gendered items.
I'm buying lots of green, gray, yellow, bright colors and browns. Animals are good for neutral choices, as are dots and stripes.

  • We probably won't find out this time. We also didn't with our first. I just bought a few basics in mostly white, or neutrals and then I bought about 2-3 outfits for both genders. My mom then went wild after our daughter was born.
It wasn't too hard, or I just didn't really care I guess.
We knew we would have more so I kept the gender neutral Thing for awhile and the outfits eventually got used.

  • Clothes are more difficult than baby items when it comes to remaining gender neutral.

I was team green for my DD and I bought a LOT of gender neutral clothes (mostly second hand) but the moment she was born those items looked way more 'boyish' than girl. I feel like gender neutral tends more towards boy... Luckily I had a lot of girl handmedowns from family and had also purchased full out girl items in new and second hand That I could not resist so we were set for clothes. Bottom line is I wasted my money (and storage space!) thinking I was planning ahead. I would suggest buying 2 weeks worth of girl and boy basics, keeping tags and receipts and returning the set you don't need. its such a personal thing though. I thought for sure I'd have no problem dressing a girl gender neutral especially as I'm super thrifty, but it was just so fun to dress her in adorable girly outfits once she arrived..

And we are Team green again for this babe. I am set for girl items and so will maybe buy a few boy outfits that I can either gift or return if I don't need them.

Ha, I have to admit, I'm Team Green but also Team Lazy for buying stuff this time around.  Most of my son's outfits when he was tiny were pretty neutral, so I'm not worried about it.  And really, since we'll spend most of the time inside anyway, meh, who cares.  As for the nursery, the new baby is going to use my son's old nursery, and I still love how I decorated it so I'm not redoing it.

  • I was Team Green the first time around and honestly clothes were not a big deal at all. DS was born in the summer so he lived in hats, socks and onesies for a long time - ducks, turtles, stripes, whatever.
With our winter babies, I'm thinking footed sleepers will be the go to thing and there's tons that are neutral. Everything in the stores is white with grey elephants (birds, farm animals) I feel lol.

I would say not to take the tags off of everything you get though. I had so many neutral things and he wore some of the stuff only once. I think it would have been better to leave the tags on and exchange for something bigger/gender specific later on.

  • I was team green with my last pregnancy. She came 6 weeks early, so I wasn't ready anyways. My family went and bought some premie girl sleepers for us, then I did more shopping once she came home from the hospital. We're team green this time as well. I have lots of sleepers, which is what babe will be in for the first few weeks anyways.

  • We were team green last year when my son was born and will be again. I bought a few basic things before. Other than that people brought all kinds of clothes as gifts after he was born, and I was shopping online from the hospital. It wasn't a big deal at all since baby is in sleep sacks and swaddlEd a lot of the time in the beginning.
  • We didn't find out with out first so we have a white, longjohn type outfit for going home. We have 2 girls but still have a lot of gender neutral things since we didn't know. I think I have my husband convinced to be team green this time. If we have a boy, we just have to paint the nursery (the baby will be with me at first anyway) and we need some newborn clothes but my SIL just had a boy in January so we're set in my opinion. If it's a girl, were more than set!

I found a ton ton of gender neutral clothes at Burlington Baby Depot. I think you can shop online if there isn't one near you. People will shower you with baby clothes so don't worry too much about it!
  • I've been buying gender neutral onesies and sleepers at Goodwill that look brand new or still have tags. I'm hella cheap, and I can't pass up barely used items for about 50 cents each. I remember when my friends had kids way before me, the were generally in onesies/sleepers most of the time anyways while at home so that's what I'm focusing on. I'm sure after the baby is here we will get a lot of clothing gifts from our families or hand me downs.

  • Would you consider this gender neutral?
  • I just bought enough gender neutral clothing to get through the first couple of weeks since they pretty much just live in sleepers and onesies the first few weeks.  I also bought one "girly" and one "boyish" outfit for a take home outfit.

  • In terms of clothing, aside from a couple of newborn sized neutral onesies, sleepers and a take-home outfit, I wouldn't worry about it.  I was team green with both of my girls and honestly wasted a ton of money on gender neutral stuff that barely got used or didn't get used at all.  As soon as my first was born, I was inundated with gender specific gifts and my mom ran right out and bought a ton of girl clothing as well.

Big items like the swing and car seat were easy... we either bought gray or orange.  We did the nursery in fun gender neutral colors... soft gray walls, lime green dresser, white area rug, black/white curtains, orange/lime green accents.  Once DD was born I added some hot pink to make it a little more girly.  If she was a boy I would've added teal.

  • Things have also changed since having my 1st (11 years ago) it was all pink and blue or yellow... Now you can get grays, oranges, black and natural colors in basic layettes. I also think that I feel different now about putting my girls in other colors than pink and purple.
