Uncircumsized baby boy- tip is a little red

Hi there, so i've been going back and forth on this topic a little bit. i live overseas, so my pediatrician sometimes has different opinions about things than the amaerican associations of pediatrics. Since my son was born she has told me to pull back his foreskin every day, to prevent infection. i've only ever done this a couple of times, because everything i read in the states said to leave it alone until they are older. well i hadnt done it in a couple of months and so for some stupid reason i thought i would check it, so i pulled it back for just a short bit and then just a few hours later the tip was red. i gave him a bath last night thinking the warm water might soothe it. it is less red this morning, but still a little bit. i think it is getting better.

what does everyone else with uncircumsized boys hear from their peds about care. my son is 7 months old.
Thank you!!

My son is not circumcised. I have never been told to pull his foreskin back. This shouldn't be done until he is older. Anyway, he had a red tip before, I guess from wee. I put nappy cream on it and it was much better the next day. Nappy cream also helped my sore nipples. I would suggest to clean him with water dry him and put nappy cream on the red bit. That should help! Good luck!

  • Thank you! i just had a strong feeling that it should be left alone, but some times it's hard to communicate with my pediatrician. i have since switched because i just didnt trust him. the new one has never mentioned retracting the foreskin. It's been getting better and better, still slightly pinker than the rest, but better.

What do you use as nappy cream? i have a zinc oxide baby cream i use for his bum when he gets a rash.

I use the Weleda nappy rash cream! The other one I would recommend is Penaten.
  • We were very strongly told to never push back forseskin until ~ 5 yrs old when they start exploring and doing it themselves.

My friends baby just had a rash on the tip of his penis recently. She treated it with coconut oil and it subsided
  • yeah, i knew it was bizzarre when the ped told me this and he did it right away to show me :( i felt so bad afterwards, because everything i had read said to leave it and here his ped just pulled it back at like 6 weeks old!! obviously we only saw that doctor twice. so glad i confirmed. I never want to hurt my little man, and his "little man" lol
