new and looking for friends

Hello everyone! I'm new here and I'm pretty much at the end of my rope. I'm in desperate need of someone to talk to, as it's been a pretty bumpy ride.

Just a quick little blip about me.... I'm 31, hubby is turning 30 this year. We've been TTC#1 for the past 3 years now. We were using supplements to help conceive (maca, royal jelly, etc etc). We had one BFP that ended in a missed miscarriage at 6 weeks, doctor talked me into having a D&C...recovery from that was a nightmare as I was so paranoid about getting scarring down there. I was very depressed about everything TTC related but eventually my mother convinced us to do some testing after I had recovered. Turned out I was fine (had bloodwork, hsg test, the whole nine yards), but hubby's numbers were low and slow. We were recommended to try IUI, lord knows we can't afford IVF. So now we are dealing with male infertility with hubby's numbers being 8 million, post-wash 4.5-5 million but a very very low motility of 10-15%.

Meanwhile, I've had to sit through coworkers getting pregnant within months of each other (and hearing that stupid "must be something in the water!!!!" joke over and over......), my brother going on to have two children, my cousin having her first child....aaaand, well, you know how that song and dance goes.

I just need to be with people going through the same trials as I am, as I feel very alone right now. Looking forward to talking and getting to know all of you! :)

  • Welcome @wintersong555!  Our issue is also MFI so I know how you feel.  We did our 3rd IUI recently and hoping for the best.  I would maybe ask your clinic if they are participating in any clinical trials for IVF that you might be able to sign up for.  That's what we're planning to do if this IUI doesn't work.  It could help with some of the $$$.  Good luck to you, glad you found us!

Thank you for the kind words everyone!  wifeinraleigh28 (I'm trying to post using my phone for the first time, its a little tricky!!) how are you doing lately? When did you do your iui? I'm currently on day 3 on our second iui attempt. Fingers crossed for the both of us!! Wonderful idea about the ivf trials. I told my husband about the ivf trial idea, and he dug his heels in! Hopefully I can convince him that they won't hurt me or treat me like a lab rat haha
  • Welcome @wintersong555!  I hope you find the support you need here.  This infertility thing really SUCKS and it is so nice to be "around" people going through the same thing as you.

I've so been there with feeling like "UGH there are pregnant people all around me!"  Sometimes I count the pregnant bellies... just to confirm how ridiculous it is!  But I've also tried to slowly pull myself out of that because it is emotionally draining to hate/resent/avoid everyone.  I've realized lots of people may have had a tough time, you never know what people go through, there is just the rosy side of things that people portray.  Or maybe they have other difficulties that you don't have.  Thinking that way helps a little...

Good luck w/ your 2nd IUI!

My IUI was on the 9th, so I'm 12dpiui today.  Feeling kinda blah but I'm sure it means absolutely nothing.  My period started on 13dpiui for both my previous 2... so I'm expecting AF tomorrow.  If I don't get AF tomorrow, I will POAS on Monday morning.  Congrats on your IUI, and FX for good results!!  I hope the TWW doesn't crawl for you like mine did.  Felt like 2 months rather than 2 weeks!

As for the trial idea... the trial I'm planning to participate in (the Megaset Trial) is really just comparing two ovarian stimulation meds that are already widely used for IVF (gonal-f and menopur) to determine if one is more effective than the other.  Since they're both already widely used, I won't feel like a lab rat!  But I also like the idea of contributing to science and getting a financial break at the same time.  Hopefully you won't even need to go the IVF route, but if you do, hopefully you'll be able to convince your DH that a trial isn't such a bad idea!

  •  @wifeinraleigh28 that sounds like an interesting trial.  I'm letting my nerd pride show by saying this but that is a study that would be an interesting read.

@wintersong555 welcome to the community.  It took me a long time to join one of these message boards myself.  I have to say, it has helped a ton to have people to talk to who know what it is we go through on this journey.  I hope that your ttc journey is a quick one from this point on.

    Welcome!
I find this community very helpful and it makes me feel less alone. I hope it does this for you as well. One other resource I've found helpful is The Beat infertility podcast. I can download several of them and listen to them on long drives. They are hopeful and upbeat and make me feel like I will eventually get to be a mom. I hope to see you around the board!

  • Hi! I'm new here, too. It is remarkable how much better you can feel when you know there are others going through the same thing, isn't it? I've been lurking about a few different boards online, and this community seems to be particularly loving and supportive.
Reading your and others comments about having to listen to the "must be something in the water!" comments all the time make me feel lucky; I work in a very industrial environment, and almost all of my colleagues are men. Guess I can count myself as fortunate in that respect! A lot of these guys are like family to me and were at my wedding a year and a half ago. They knew DH and I want kids right away because of our age (pushing 40), so they've figured out what's going on. A few have come to me privately and said, "My wife and I went through this. It's tough, but you'll get through it. And you're not alone." They don't bring it up in front of other people. Just one on one, privately, and quickly, just to make sure I know they're sending positive wishes. I'm blessed to have a great work family.
Sorry, didn't mean to make that all about me. I hope you have people like that in your work life! And if you don't, you've got the awesome ladies here.  <3

Sorry you have had to join this forum, but I hope you find it to be the supportive place many of us have found.  I was in your place before ... and I now call it a very lonely time.  To be honest, once we found out the reason (MFI for us too), there was a bit of shift.  My DH is wonderful, but I don't think men can quite understand the disappointment monthly when AF arrives.  However, once we started going through treatments, it felt like we were truly partners through the process.  My husband gave me every single shot I had to have.

Due to our MFI, we were advised to go straight to IVF.  We did a fresh IVF cycle in July 2014 with success!  So, keep your hopes up.  It can happen.  This forum was so helpful to me during my journey because it is filled with people in a similar situation, and who do not make those hurtful / casual remarks about having a baby.   I do know we were fortunate.  We did a FET in March 2016 that was BFN.  That was our only frozen embryo, so I'm going to do my last fresh cycle in August.  Best of luck to you!

Yes! Oh my goodness. DH's manly pride took a hit when the diagnosis came back. He definitely went through a grieving period after hearing the news, but he is focused on the future now. I had to giggle when I read that your DH gives you shots. I asked mine and he told me there was no way in heck, but he does make up silly chants and songs for me while I am giving myself shots- it helps, and we laugh! It's amazing how this unfortunate journey brings a couple closer together in ways we would never imagine, isn't it?
