Pregnancy Buys...

I am debating buying a pregnancy pillow... mainly the Leachgo Snoogle Total Body Pillow. Lots of great reviews off Amazon, although is a nice $60+. I am a back sleeper, but do sleep on my side sometimes too. However, I have noticed that I sleep more on my back now so I would like to get used to sleeping on my side more and think this pillow may help with it - at least prevent me from moving around so much in bed.

For STM+ - is something like this worth it?

What other products did you find were helpful during the 2nd and 3rd trimester?

Any products you regretted buying? Or products you wish you had bought?

I was given one from a friend and at first thought "I don't want to store this in my house until the second/third trimester" but then I was so thankful I did! I am also a back sleeper and it was a good way to keep me propped and comfy, as well as have an additional piece to go in between my knees. It was kind of shaped like a seahorse/question mark.

i didn't want to shell out the $60.00 for a postpartum wrap but I SO wish I did, and I will this time.

  • FYI there is a 30% off sale at motherhood maternity online and I believe they carry the snoogle.

I'm a FTM and DH got me the Snoogle for Mother's Day, and I love it. I'm not big enough yet where I need to have it, but I love how comfortable and multi-purpose it is. You can sleep with it, sit on it if you're having hemorrhoid issues, use it for back support in a chair, snuggle with it while watching TV...

It's awesome and I'm glad I have it. I also plan on shelling out some serious cash for a PP girdle...looking at Bellefits for now.
  • The Snoogle is a great buy, and Ive just used it consistently since the last pregnancy. A maternity support belt helps pull your belly off your hips and take pressure off your back, and it makes postpartum easier by keeping all those loose organs snug as well.

I got a Snoogle the other week and looove it. I sleep so much better, no more tossing and turning. I got lucky and found one that had been returned to Motherhood and got it for a steal. I don't know if I could bring myself to pay full price for it, but with a coupon, yes. So worth it IMO. I had a regular body pillow before but I was still sleeping terrible.
  • Snoogle 4 life. I also bought a few non maternity clothes because I am irrational. And for fathers day I got dh a guava lotus travel crib. Id been against it because we have a pack n play but its far superior and #2 on the way justifies it.

  • I just used a cheap body pillow from Target and was fine. I have some maternity clothes too that I have bought recently. Stock up on preparation H. I may also need a donut pillow to sit on this time since I had nasty tailbone issues last time. Any time I sat on a hard surface and stood up I had excruciating pain radiate from my tailbone because it shifted side to side. Bananas because calf cramps tend to start soon, bigger bras, nursing pads in case you start leaking colostrum, panty liners for snissing incidents, and maybe one of those foot spa things you can fill with epsom salts and stuff. Those post partum belts sound like a great idea and maybe I'll get one this time around.

  • I didn't get a Snoogle or pregnancy pillow with DS but I'm seriously considering it this time. DS was 9.5 pounds when he was born and I am a relatively small boned person so it was serious wear and tear on my body and I've no reason to think that this baby would be any smaller, all things considered....
I used the wraps that they gave me at the hospital for the first couple weeks after I came home and I know that they made a difference. I just regret stopping using it as soon as I did. I had a C-section and a very easy recovery, DH is an ICU nurse and said I was recovering so well I didn't need it anymore but there's a big difference between 'needing' for medical reasons and all the other benefits that it provides you. Now I'm just trying to decide if I want to purchase one or use the ones that they give you at the hospital

  • My MIL got me one from walmart that is almost identical to the one you mentioned for $40. I love it. At first I was usually it for back support, but more and more I've been putting it under my knees when I sleep to help my back.

People that have used a Snoogle, do they make you super hot when you're sleeping? I have issues during pregnancy with waking up overheated (partially DH's fault as he is a portable heater) and never bought one with DD because I was worried that it would make me too hot!

It's hard to say because by the time I was using it I always seemed to feel hot. Although it will help keep your hot husband away from you! There is no way to snuggle in a Snoogle.
  • I don't have a fancy pillow (yet?) but I think having something between me and DH helps buffer his space heater nature...
  • Showed DH the Snoogle and he nixed it. Said it would take up all room on the bed. We have a queen bed and the dog likes to cuddle with us. Anyone have any space issues with the Snoogle in a queen?

  • Bought one this weekend since I've been having trouble tossing and turning at night.

Having a snoogle feels like spooning a hairless husband who doesn't snore. It's amazing!

And regarding heat, I slept with just a sheet and the window open since we seem to have hit summer in my city, did not wake up sweaty and uncomfortable like I half expected with the extra cushion.
  • cgss11cgss11 member
We have a queen and we still feel like we have enough room. I try to stay to the edge as best I can to accommodate the pillow. No dog in our bed though.
  • I have a candy cane shaped pregnancy pillow and 3 large dogs on the bed...still enough room for DH. We had a queen last pregnancy and it was a little tight but DH also would lean against the pillow lol. Now we have a king and it is better...but now my dog likes to sleep under my pillow! So not really much better...but that's beside the point.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • @phoenix870509 we have a Snoogle and a queen sized bed and it's NBD, but there is no dog in our bed. You could always put the Snoogle so that the back is on the edge and you're facing inward so DH doesn't feel like he's got a huge pillow in his face.
  • This is all GREAT info, and am writing everything down.

We also have a queen bed and DH thought the Snoogle would take up room, but I like knowing that it won't be as much as either of us thinks.

I like the idea of stocking up on some stuff now (diapers) when they're on sale. We don't have much storage room, but I bet my parents wouldn't mind, ha.

We don't currently have Amazon Prime, but plan to before baby is here so I can quick order some things if I don't feel like leaving the house. Plus, getting mail is always fun.

Off subject a little - But we got Amazon Prime when we made the big move from city back to our rural roots, and it's been the best decision ever! The closest Walmart/Target is 50 miles away, so now we rarely have to make the trip just to get a few small things. I think it's super cheap to be able to get 2 day free-shipping on everything... who can't wait two days to have it all show up in a box on your doorstep? I'm such a lazy cheap person :p

  • I'm holding off on stocking up: I've heard it is good to try a few different brands of diapers in case the baby doesn't like one also, I've heard not to buy too many newborn diapers because they grow quickly. I think I'll order diaper linings from diapers.com. it was recommended as the cheapest and they deliver.

  • I ordered a Snoogle on Amazon today using Prime and can't wait for it to come in Friday! I just got the white one because it was $53 instead of $60 lol. A pregnant coworker just bought one and convinced me I NEED it! Can't wait to try it out because I've been tossing and turning all night every night.
  • DH has completely nixed the Snoogle. I am quite saddened by this. I had a body pillow in college but no clue where it is now. But my mom said if we couldn't find it she'd buy me another one. So I will use that and pretend it's a Snoogle, even though it is not.

I would nix DH from the bed.

There are smaller options that are still made for pregnancy. Maybe convince him of that? Seriously though, sleeping only gets harder and he isn't the one suffering...get what you need.

  • I haven't had too many issues sleeping, and with a queen bed, FI, and 2 cats, it's probably just as well that I don't get a Snoogle. I am excited to buy maternity leggings though! I live in leggings, and everything I own is starting to feel too tight. :(

DH nixed the body pillow and all pregnancy pillows with DD1. Honestly though, I personally never needed it. We do have a Tempur-pedic mattress and it has been a wonder for pregnancies.

As for postpartum belly support I loved my Belly Bandit and highly recommend the buy!
    https://bellybandit.com/collections/belly-bandit/bamboo
It was worth every penny! If you don't want to spend to much check out local consignment sales and resale shops. Sometimes you can find them.

Diaper stockpiling is a must if you have the storage space. With all my babies we started buying diapers shortly after 20 weeks. Comes in handy that first year! DD1 we didn't need to purchase diapers until after one year. DD2 just turned 10 months and we are on our last box.

@queenklau I am a Pampers fan. Since I know what I like I always just stockpile with those. I buy one case of newborns (with DD1 I did end up buying another small box once she was here). Two cases of size 1. Two cases size 2. Five cases of size 3. That typically gets me to a year. If you are buying them in store the nice thing is you can usually exchange them for size. I stack coupons and always buy on sale from our local bulk store. They've always been great with exchanging if need be. Generally my babies wear size three diapers from 6 months until just about two. DD1 was potty trained by 2 and never wore size 4 unless it was a nighttime diaper.
