Baby Names

Baby girl is destined to be born nameless.

I've made a bunch of discussions already about opinions on this baby's name. We just cannot settle or agree. We finally have two names that we both like, but we have been going back and forth with these two for weeks. We have about a week and a half to decide, and we just keep flip flopping.

Harper Elise
Cora Mae

Dh was sold on Harper from the beginning, but, in my opinion, it sounds very harsh with our last name (think "bird"). I think Cora is a beautiful name, but am still kind of hung up on Harper.

I know although Harper is a super popular name, there aren't many fans of it on here. Any and all opinions are more than welcome! TIA.

  • I think Cora is much nicer than Harper.

  • I like Harper over Cora. But it does depend on how it sounds with your last name.
When she makes the arrival, I think you folks will know.
  • I like them both, but I feel like when there are two strong contenders...sometimes it is nice to see what baby looks like and pick from there.

Bring both to the hospital and decide when you see her  :)

  • I much prefer Cora. I just don't understand the popularity of Harper at all. With that said, it is a legitimate name, so I agree with PP. IMO it's better to go to the hospital with a few name choices because the baby may or may not "look" like your number one choice.
  • I agree with PPs - decide after she is here.
  • Another who much prefers Cora over Harper. But yes, maybe it will be obvious which name she should have once you meet her

  • Both are nice - see what seems right when she arrives. Good luck!
  • I like Harper Elise better, although neither is bad!

  • I fully admit that I'm a terrible person,  but if your last name is bird related  (a bird, a type of bird, a part of a bird) I'd probably in my head refer to her as "Harpy"

I do prefer Cora in general,  but I don't like it with Mae. It's a bit too short and country.

In the end, there isn't anything wrong with either. Maybe wait until she's born and see if one suits her better.
  • Definitely prefer Cora. Not a fan of Harper due to its trendiness and popularity right now.
  • Love Cora. Either mn works well. Not a fan of Harper. Agree with pp to decide after she is born.

  • Harper is on our short list, but I also have an issue with how it flows with our last name. Agree that Cora Mae sounds a bit country to me. Not necessarily bad...just an observation. Both names are perfectly acceptable. Decide when you see your sweet girl!
  • I like Harper. Not a fan of Cora.
  • I actually know more Coras than Harpers, so it seems just as trendy to me. I prefer Harper Elise, but think I would probably just decide after seeing her.
  • I think Cora Mae just sounds better....

  • I love Harper, but Harper Bird has a repetition of the "er" sound that makes it get kind of caught in my mouth. Cora Bird is lovely. You could also do Coraline or Cordelia with the nn Cora to give her a longer name option.
  • Also meant to say that Harper could be the mn if you used a longer version of Cora.
    Coraline Harper Bird
    Cordelia Harper Bird
  • Harper...and your last name is Bird-ish? Like, To Kill A MockingBIRD?

I don't love Mae as a middle name but Cora is your best option here.

Our daughters name is Harper. And last name is the same as the last name of the main character on Girls... So it's a bit of a tongue twister! We knew Harper was the right name and had to get used to the full name. If you like it, use it.

Not it a fan of Cora. Mainly because I hated Cora on Downton Abbey. It's been forever ruined for me.

  • Nms at all, but I do want to chime in and say to just stop thinking about it. Concentrate on having a safe birth and when she gets here, you'll know what name is right.
Our daughter wasn't named for 8 hours due to me being stuck in bed and her being in a nicu. We had a couple options, but the moment I got to finally hold her, I knew what name was right.
