Less formula more breastmilk

Anyone have had to put their baby on formula and is trying to incorporate breastmilk in their baby's diet? Please help

Re: Less formula more breastmilk

  • My son is 90% formula fed and 10% breastmilk fed. I don't produce much milk. But whatever I do pump I give him in a bottle. I'm still not 100% ok with not being able to nurse like I wanted to, but my son is healthy and fed. So that's all that really matters

  • Just try to keep your portions consistent, so if you are giving the baby 1 oz of breast milk per bottle (or even just once a day), always do exactly that so the baby's tummy isn't upset by the ratios.
  • Since about 3 weeks old (now 7weeks) I have nursed LO first and once she gets upsets After like 5/7 minutes I then burp and give bottle. I also do not make enough milk to completely and only nurse. I will eventually dry my supple before I go back to work end of June.
  • I don't produce enough so we had to supplement early on due to significant weight loss. I produce about 11oz a day with the help of water, a crazy amount of supplements, Boobie smoothies and milk making cookies. I have tried EVERYTHING. He gets a BM bottle in the morning and another for his last bottle of the night. My SIL is pretty much a dairy cow and gives me milk as well so when she does he'll get a bottle of her BM in the middle of the day. All remaining bottles are formula.

With DS#1 I had the same issue and was devastated. I felt as though my body was failing me. But he was healthy, gaining weight and in the end it really didn't make a difference. This time I am not as upset about it because I already knew it was a possibility although I had hoped it wouldn't be. To the mama's who are stressed about not producing enough, you are doing the best you can and that is all that matters. Even an ounce of BM is good for them so enjoy that you can give your lo whatever you can. Plenty of healthy, socially normal and successful adults were only FF.

Keep up the good work ladies. Every drop counts.
