rant/ rave/ symptom: my 2 1/2 yr olds have been back talking up a storm lately!!! I am hoping that maybe this bad weather we are supposed to have all week will inspire this baby out. Symptoms besides the ugly PUPPPS I now have red marks from burst vessels in my skin. Lovely.

what are you doing to prepare for baby: finally put the crib in our room last night, still have to do the car seat.

GTKY: I have been letting my kids watch way too many pbs shows on the iPad, not super proud of that one. I read a lot and hop into the bathtub the second my hubby gets home to take over watching the girls.

rant/ raves/ symptoms: So much swelling!!! And I haven't slept well all week. Luckily tomorrow is my last day at work, so I'll have more time to nap.

what are you doing to prepare for baby? No much. Met with our doula last night and she dropped off the yoga ball, so I'll probably be spending some time on that. Otherwise, I'll be finishing up organizing the nursery.

questions? I've got a bunch of GBS questions, but I'll save them for my doc this afternoon.

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? I'm hoping for a real strong nesting instinct starting this weekend because we'll be putting our house on the market next week. Nothing like putting your pregnancy hormones to work!

Putting your house on the market now?! Wow I give you tons of props! We sold our last house when our twins were 8 months and thankfully it was on the market for only a day or I don't know how I could have kept it immaculate for showings.

Rant(s): I'm so tired of all those stupid little plastic tag thingies that are attached to baby clothing, blankets, etc. One blanket had 12! 12!!! WHY? Bane of my existence.

Raves: My boss is picking up a chicken quesadilla from our nearby hole-in-the-wall Mexican place for me, can't wait! In baby-related raves, he's slowly dropping and his head is down.

Symptoms: Finally was hit with sciatic nerve pain. I not only now walk super slowly and waddle, but also have a slight limp because of the sciatic nerve pain. Ladies, I'm ready for the catwalk!

What are you doing to prepare for baby? I finished our baby laundry over the weekend and my husband installed our car seat base. We're now on the hunt for a mattress pad protector thingie for our bed, in case my waterbreaks during the night.

GTKY:  What are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? Just trying to maintain a "normal" routine (as normal as possible at least).
  • @Tawny87 thanks for starting a check-in! Even though we don't do them everyday anymore, it's fun to see what people are up to once in awhile.

    how far along: 39+1

rant/ raves/ symptoms: I'm growing out of my maternity clothes. I hadn't really realized this was a possibility. Thank goodness I'm near the end, because this is not great for my self-esteem.

what are you doing to prepare for baby? We finished out birth class last night. Now we're just excitedly waiting for him!

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? H and I have been trying to do as many fun things together as we can. We've been going to the movies, going to the farmer's market, running random errands together. That and work have kept me busy enough not to go crazy in these final weeks.

Absolutely! I really enjoying participating in these threads too. : )

rant/ raves/ symptoms: Movement, just feeling heavier in general

what are you doing to prepare for baby? Organizing baby stuff, getting bags packed.

    questions?

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? Ugh no sanity here, I totally crabbed at hubby last night and I just want to scream at work. Thankfully my last day is tomorrow and then my leave starts. I'm totally over this. No signs of impending labor whatsoever. Baby boy seems too content to stay in there forever. I'm a FTM and I'm crossing my fingers he doesn't go too much overdue, I have no idea how big he is!

@Tawny87 The market here moves quick, so I'm hoping to be in escrow by the time she shows up (due June 16, FTM). We also have a pitbull, who is a sweetie but I still wouldn't feel comfortable asking someone he's unfamiliar with to deal with him if we have a showing. AND I'm hoping it's easier to sell the house before kiddo shows up than after. It's all part of my master plan. We relocate in September, which means we'll also be buying a house with a 1-ish month old... It's going to be a whirlwind couple months.

  • Yay, check in!

rant/ raves/ symptoms: Just hanging in there, ladies! SPD sucks SO MUCH. But here's my rant: I live in NYC and take a crowded subway (actually, 2 different ones) to work every day. I'm starting to notice that less and less often people are getting up to give me me seat, or it's not as immediate as it used to be. My theory is that like 2 months ago when I was 'cute pregnant' everyone was all "Please, come take a seat!!" and now I think my hugeness makes people not make eye contact with me/pretend they are sleeping/reading very intently. Lack of participation has really boosted train-advocates for me though, usually someone else standing that says loudly, "who's gonna be the one to get up for this pregnant lady, hm??"
My rave is the long weekend and starting to work from home on Tuesday! No mor trains and schlepping up hills and steps to commute!

what are you doing to prepare for baby? We are doing little to no prep before she's actually here. Tweaking my amazon prime order that we'll trigger the second she's born and everything will be home by the time we get there.

questions? Would I be very stupid to spend the holiday weekend 2 hours away from the hospital, not accounting for Memorial Weekend traffic?

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? What is this sanity you speak of?

That sucks that people are so rude!!!! If there is a hospital that you feel comfortable delivering at nearby it probably wouldn't be so bad to go, but I would check with your dr.
  • @tawny87 Yeah i'm seeing him tonight so we'll see what he says! Last week he said my cervix was softening, he could feel the head, and I was 1cm. So if things have progressed significantly I'll probably stay local. Not trying to have this baby in some random hospital for no reason other than I wanted sand between my swollen toes!

rant/ raves/ symptoms: My older DDs both had fevers of 103 at 2am this morning.  One had an accident trying to make it to the potty and the other threw up from crying/gagging on snot.  I spent a good hour awake, cleaning pee and puke and giving out tylenol. Ugh.
I've been having more contractions...not just BH. And I have my last ultrasound today, just a quick one in the OBs office to make sure LO is head down.  Here's hoping!

what are you doing to prepare for baby?
Added some snacks to my hospital bag lol And I'm getting a carseat to borrow because the one we have is the 4-in-1 and can't really be taken out of the car, but we have to have baby in a carseat in the hospital before they'll let us leave.  I honestly didn't know it was a law.

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks?
Trying not to think about it.  But I'm having a shower on the 5th so I'm looking forward to that.

Rant(s): The elevators at my office have been broken the past 2 days, so I've had to walk up 5 flights up stairs, which isn't super fun while 9.5 months pregnant.

Raves: My last day of work is tomorrow!

Symptoms: Lots of movement, some discomfort in my hips, and some trouble sleeping.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Meeting with a lactation consultant tonight and finishing up some baby laundry.

Questions: Has anyone seen a pelvic floor specialist during pregnancy? My doula suggested this, but when I called today I found out that they weren't taking appointments until July.

GTKY:  What are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? Since I'll be off work starting Monday, I'm just trying to make plans with friends and keep busy getting the house ready for the baby!

  • @vintagevix86  Srsly! The plastic tagging of everything drives me batty!!

    how far along:

rant: yesterday took my dog to the vet to find out she has a mast cell tumor that needs to be removed as soon as possible. Which means as soon as we are home with the baby, our other baby needs to go have this tumor removed. Hopefully it won't have metastisized. :'(

rave: baby has clearly dropped further into my pelvis, so this horrific heartburn has improved!!!
symptoms: crappy sleep, lots of bathroom visits, BH, cramping.

what are you doing to prepare for baby? sitting around on my butt, waiting.

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? watching a lot of baseball (thank god for MLB TV) and taking whatever naps I can manage.

rant: Lots of random nausea out of nowhere that has me running for a garbage can or bathroom in a way I haven't since first tri.  Since I have to run to the bathroom every half hour anyway, I feel like I might as well just stay there all the time.

rave: I am officially past the date when I had my son, and hoping I can keep going to 37 weeks (or more) even though I'm uncomfortable because every day at this stage helps him get a little bigger.  My last us is next Thursday morning and I should have a good sense of how he's growing and doing in there.

what are you doing to prepare for baby? The last week I've been pretty seriously nesting.  Clothes, bottles and diapers are washed and ready, we have the stuff we need ready at home.  I washed the cover for the carseat and infant rocker to put back together this weekend and I've been collecting all the stuff I want to take to the hospital so this weekend I'll get it packed.  Bought my son stuff to leave in a bag for whoever watches him while I'm in labor with a new book, dvd, game, markers, snacks, etc.  They will be with him at our house, so he doesn't really need clothes or anything.

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? We are in the middle of end of the school year chaos, so while I'm not as focused as I would normally be on work, it's definitely keeping me occupied and focused on just making it to the last day of school which is exactly two weeks before my due date.  On one hand, it's getting really hard to keep up with my regular routine, but I know if I were home, I'd just drive myself crazy with every cramp and contraction and feeling like it would be easier to just stay busy as long as I can.

@Tawny87 Congratulations!  I was so anxious all last week and when I passed the date I had my son, I realized just how much I'd been subconsciously stressing about it!  39 weeks is amazing and I hope all goes smoothly with your delivery and it's much more low stress than last time.
  • How far along: 36 weeks, 2 days

Rant(s): I just spent 3 hours stuck in a chair at a meeting and now my ass feels broken... I wasn't even sure I could get up when it ended. Up until this point I had ankles, but that meeting really helped me lose them!

Raves: 3 day weekend, thank goodness.

Symptoms: Very, very cranky, swelling, sweaty mess.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Not a whole lot... still deciding whether to get the nursery painted or if I feel too guilty since DS2 still sleeps in there... I feel really bad being like "nope, this isn't your room anymore, now you share with your brother!"

GTKY:  What are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? Same reaction as some others - keep my sanity? I tried to, but it's clearly gone now. I literally went insane at SO two nights ago, so I think all is lost at this point.

rant/ raves/ symptoms: Super uncomfortable all the time, and my stomach really hurts (like muscle soreness, but not cramping like early labor). And DS is not being gentle with me, every time I ask him to be gentle he starts jumping and throwing himself onto my stomach.  Or headbutting me.  But my rave is that tomorrow DH and FIL are taking DS away for the weekend so I can be alone in the house for a couple of nights before the baby gets here.  I am SO FREAKING EXCITED.  I have not been alone for more than like an hour at a time since my last maternity leave.  I better not go into labor until they get back haha.

what are you doing to prepare for baby? Packed my hospital bag today.

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks? Today was my first day of maternity leave, so I'm trying to keep myself busy so I don't have time to think about what's coming.

Ahh eff them!  When I'm in the city (I live in north Jersey) and I take the subway, I will literally stand in front of someone and stick my stomach in their face until they stand up. :)  I don't care, I want to sit.
  • @lolonvive, I have 3 metros that I use for my commute and know exactly what you're talking about. People have been good about it lately, but there have been pleeeenty of times when I just wanted to shout, "I KNOW YOU FUCKIN' SEE ME!" I mean at least offer me a seat, you'd be surprised how often I politely decline (after sitting at a desk all day, standing feels good to me for a bit).
  • How far along:

    rant/ raves/ symptoms:
rant: I had to have two ultrasounds this week because the scheduled one on  Monday they saw something a little abnormal on the heart (so they thought), even though this was my 5th ultrasound of the pregnancy, and everything looked normal at the AS and the one at 28 weeks. My doctor didn't seem worried, but wanted me to get checked at MFM just in case. So Tuesday, went for another ultrasound. Everything is fine, but that was annoying.
In addition, my baby is breech and most likely will have to have a C section in 3 weeks. I'm not a good candidate for an external version (nor would I really want to do that). I think I"m trying to think of the pros of the c section (scheduled, no anxiety about when it will happen, planning will be easier, don't have to worry about attempting a vaginal birth and then needing a c section anyway) so I'm ok with it, though I kind of wanted to experience labor.

Rave: It's almost the weekend, and it's a holiday weekend!

Symptoms: Peeing all the damn time, feet are swelling now, BH- so the usual.

what are you doing to prepare for baby?
My husband and I have most of the crib  together. We should get the mattress this weekend. Just trying to put the stuff from the baby shower away. Still have to pack my bag, but I figure I still have time. We are going to put the bases in the car this weekend. Have to return a couple things to BRU this weekend (we got a couple duplicates at the shower).

questions? Any advice on having a c section?

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks?
Just trying to get everything done.  Work is also keeping me busy.

I don't know anything about having a scheduled c section but I had an emergency c with my twins and I think it was great! Get up and walk as soon as you feel up to it, it really helps. Brace your self with a pillow if you have to sneeze cough or get up, otherwise it will be painful the first few days. Take the laxative first when offered otherwise after not having a BM for a few days you will be in crisis mode, and it is not fun.

  • How far along are you: 36w 5 days with fraternal twins

rants: the house renovation finally ended on friday so we have our house back but there is so much to do!! And i have no energy and my husband can only do one thing at a time, even with some help from friends. I just want to feel like my house is ready for these twins!

Raves: i made it this far with twins! I really hope to avoid NICU time! Keeping my fingers crossed!

symptoms: i am so uncomfortable! Im measuring about 9 wks ahead if it was a single pregnancy so my belly looks like i am 45 weeks! I am seriously done and ready to have these babies! I cant sleep, im sick of gestational diabetes and i want my body back and my babies to hold!

What are you doing to prepare for babies: cleaned all my newborn clothes - boys and girls. Organized their room a little.

Questions: none, just ready to go!

GTKY:  what are you doing to "keep your sanity" during these last few weeks?
im trying to focus on tasks one at a time so i dont feel overwhelmed.
im trying to focus on one task at a time so i dont feel overwhlemed. also trying to spend some quality time with my daughter before the twins get here.
