Delivery Gown/Robe

Curious if anyone has purchased a delivery gown or robe yet. I'm a STM and would like to have something a little more comfortable this time around for L&D. I do intend on having an epidural which I think will limit me to a gown or robe with a back opening. Anyone purchased one and love it?? It's hard to tell when I look at etsy what will work.

My bff bought my pjs when I had my DD and I loved having them because I felt more comfortable in them when guests came to visit. I just treated myself to a new monogramed set. I am going to pick up a comfy robe too.

Oh, I had cute post-delivery clothes - mostly yoga pants and nursing tanks. But I think OP meant something to wear for actual labor/delivery.

When I was in labor with both my kids, I didn't want any clothes on. I made my husband take my socks off cause I couldn't stand the feel of anything on me I was so hot. But with both my kids I was in active labor and they were born two hours after arriving at the hospital, so I guess if you plan to walk around and whatnot early on, a robe over your hospital gown might be more comfortable? Just don't wear anything you want to take home with you. Both kids my clothes were thrown away, they were destroyed.
  • Maybe it'll be different this time but I didn't have bodily fluids all over the gown I wore with DD. And I figure I can always wash it if need be. I had some super comfy pjs after delivery too. I guess I may need to just buy something and see if I like it or not.
  • FTM but I went ahead and got a gown. If it gets wrecked, oh well. It's not exactly the must versatile piece of my wardrobe . . . But at least I might feel slightly prettier in any birth day pictures. That's just my logic.
I will say that I'm a little disappointed how stiff/scratchy mine is. I'm gonna wash it a few times to try and soften it up.

This was my thinking as well. After birth pictures with DD I am a little more concerned with how I go into the hospital and look for any pictures. Assuming I have time to be prepared etc...
    Where did you order yours?
  • Amazon, the brand is "gownies." They are good cuz the back and top snap open for anesthetist/breastfeeding. Lots of different patterns.

Oh! Just the gown they gave me. Thank you for clarifying
  • I was in labor for 12 hours before pushing and just laid there for most of it waiting to push. I had an epidural and didn't have any issues with sweating etc... Crazy how different everyone's birth stories are and how different the experience is for each of us.
Ive since found some gowns that will also open front and back so I'm not lifting my gown all the way up every time a monitor needs to be adjusted.
  • I thought about getting a gown my second time around, but never did. Also wanting to not so wiped post birth for any photos. But after delivery I was swept away fairly quickly to the recovery post birth rooms and the first thing I insisted on doing was showering. So really only my 'I literally just gave birth photos' are in the gown. The rest were in more comfy/cute pjs.
  • I will just use the gowns at the hospital. Last time I think I was on my 3rd one when the baby was finally born. Also, I didn't really notice or care what I looked like in the very first moments pics. Personally I didn't even realize there were pics being taken as I was totally wrapped around holding baby for the first time outside of the womb.
  • I wore a comfortable sports bra and a skirt from Old Navy that was tossed as soon as she was delivered. I may do the same thing again. I didn't get the epidural until 13 hours in so I was all sorts of sweaty and gross. When I work out I hate having anything on my arms sticking to me, so I figured I would feel the same way with birthing.

  • @Tnallen107 that is adorable! I was on their site a couple of days ago and I love the robes and pj sets, but they only have the robe I want in an XS which I'm worried might be a little too fitted for me... how would you say the sizing is?

I'm glad I just used the gowns the hospital provided because I vomited on 2 of them while in labor than God knows what got on the one I wore during birth. I also wore one for several hours after because they kept coming in to check down there and I didn't want to risk messing up my own clothes.
  • @Bookhousegirl

I ordered the XS and it fits great. Still a bit flowy on me. But, I'm 5 foot and about...128lbs right now? So I know it'll be a bit large once baby is here.

    sorry, wrong thread
  • I will just use the hospital gown this time. I did the same with DD and it worked out fine. After delivery I showered and changed into my own comfy clothes (nursing tank and pajama bottoms) for visitors. I looked at the cute delivery gowns but didn't think that the cost was really justified for it to be thrown away. I would rather use it for nursing PJs but that is just me.

    Same.

To me its like bringing your own sheets to the hospital to deliver on. No thanks will ruin someone else's.

I have seen women take gowns that are made with matching fabric for a pillow they bring too! Lol
