Gifts for the nurses?

I know we still have a little bit to go (even though it feels like it's coming up so quick) before we go into labor but has anyone who has gone through labor and delivery before gotten little gifts or anything for the nurses that were there during your labor and delivery? If you're a FTM do you plan on getting the nurses a little something?

I would like to get them something whether it be a fruit basket or a little goodie basket but am not sure what to get and was just wondering what other people have done, thanks!!

I will probably have little bags of candy available. Nothing I personally made/baked because if a patient brought in something for me baked, I wouldn't eat it. Pre packaged items in my mind are great. And especially ones that are contained so that they can easily take them and have a wrapping barrier coming from a patient room so that its sanitary.
I was thinking about the little plastic wrapping bags you can get from the dollar tree and putting a few things in them like starbursts and dove chocolate.

@midwestbaby Would the nurses appreciate a gift basket that they could all share from somewhere nice, like Dean and DeLuca, or a similar place? Or what if I pre-ordered a tray of cookies from my favorite bakery and gave it to them still wrapped in cellophane?

I didn't do anything for the nurses with DD, but always thought that I should have. They were great besides coming in and torturing us with vitals checks when all we wanted to do was sleep, or literally a minute after we'd finally gotten DD to sleep.

I totally meant to have an edible arrangement or donuts for the nurses but I forgot and then DH felt weird asking his parents to pick something up on their way to the hospital. Since he'll most likely be home with DS our second night I'll have him bring something when he comes back.

We get stuff brought in from time to time for our break room, but because of shift work it can get picked over. I think packaged items that are marked from a bakery or donuts are great ideas too. I would skip anything like an edible arrangement that might be left out for hours and hard to keep fresh.

Dang, now I want a donut.

@midwestbaby Thanks for the tip! I think I might do a platter of specialty cookies from my favorite bakery. They did cookie favors for my bridal shower, they were little corsets omg soooo flipping cute and delish, and they did cookies for something else I can't remember. Sometimes I even stop in and just get a small box for us at home. I don't usually like sugar cookies with royal icing, but these, omg, I'm drooling thinking about them! OK - decision made! lol

With my kiddos we ordered food to be delivered. Pizzas with the first. Jimmy Johns with the second. Not sure what we'll do this time, but they were always grateful for the food since they don't always get much of a lunch break.

I'm going to do mini-facials since I sell skincare and am also going to throw in a bottle of Essie nail polish or a cute cloth headband or something like that. I took cookies last time, but there were so many nurses over the days that I was there that one cookie tray at the beginning wouldn't last.

Last time I made these. Had some candy, gum, pen, hair ties, hand sanitizer lotion and Chapstick. They all really loved them.

I was going to do something like this for the L&D nurses. My doctor has one specific nurse designated to take phone calls and you RARELY have to leave a message. She has been great my entire pregnancy and always answers my questions. Plus she is super nice and doesn't make me feel stupid. I was planning on doing something a little more for her since she has been such a line of support.

@BrunetteBabe722Nurses love anything food related! I'm a nurse and anytime we get candy, food, donuts, etc. we are in heaven. A card is nice too because it's hard to remember every patient you take care of and we keep cards from families we get and post them on our bulletin board in the back for all the staff to read.

Very cute! I just wish I could find the time to do it....*sigh* How many did you make? When I was in the hospital with DD, I think I cycled through maybe only 3 or 4, maaaaybe 5, different nurses over the 4 days I was there after my c-section.

How many nurses are you all planning for? You all keep mentioning L&D, and while I'm planning a c-section this time, I can honestly say that after I left the L&D unit with DD I never saw any of those nurses again. At that point it was the mother-baby nurses who cared for us for the next 4 days, and they did a lot more than the L&D nurses, anyway....at least for me since I never actually delivered there lol. As I said above, I think I only cycled through a handful of nurses over my 4 days there, so I'm trying to gauge how much loot I'm realistically going to need to bring.

My dd was born at a smaller hospital so we had the same nurses for l&d and the next few days. We brought a few pounds of prepackaged jelly bellies for all the nurses. My brother lived close to the jelly belly factory, at the time, so it worked out perfectly. They kept them at the nurses station and we noticed them slowly dwindle as the days passed. I'm hoping to do something like that again.

Just do it one late night when insomnia has you up lol. I think 15 and they went very quickly. The nurses loved them.

I didn't have the same nurse for more than a 12hr shift, and they were very in and out. For me, the L&D nurses were much more involved, especially one specific one, because she was with me through my entire labor and helped so much while I was pushing (which was longer than I'd like to remember). I'll probably bring one basket for the L&D nurses and one for the nurses after.
