Things childless pediatricians say

"You don't rock him to sleep every night, right?" No, at 3 wks, I nurse him to sleep.

"Is he self soothing at all?" Of course not!

"He's gaining 30grams/day. Normal is 20-30. I think you might be over feeding him. Perhaps try less quantity more frequently." He roots and screams just about every moment he's awake. If putting him on a boob keeps him quiet and happy, bring on the leg rolls. FWIW, all my babies (7,1..8,13..7,7..8,4) were all at least 10lbs by one month.

With 4 kids under 5.5 years, I'm pretty sure I have a good idea of what I'm doing. My pediatrician husband used to tell his patients all the same textbook stuff pre-kids. They can't possibly know until they've experienced it.

With DD one of the Drs. told me at 4 months that I should stop feeding her in the MOTN and let her cry it out.  That her waking up was a habit and I had to break it.  Meanwhile she had terrible reflux and projective vomited several times per day and was barely on the growth charts.  She's since had two children and become much better in her parenting advice, however, we usually don't see her for well visits.

  • My doctor never complained about his weight gain (he's gained almost 5 lbs in 7 weeks) he's also grown almost 5 inches...
We had a nurse tell us that if a baby is congested they get booger in their eyes... Um clogged tear ducts much?

Mine told me that I shouldn't take baby inside grocery stores or restaurants or anywhere else with recirculated air until after she's had her 2 month shots. Yeah ok I'll just not eat til then?? Also if it was that important you probably should have told me earlier than our 1 month appt.
