Baby Names

Beatrix (Tw: loss mentioned)

We're still trying for #3. We've had quite a long time to think about names.

Our daughters are Lucy Elizabeth and Violet Ruth. We had Annabelle Mae picked out for our loss. Even though I declined to find out the sex after my d&c, I felt it was a girl. I could be wrong, but something doesn't feel right about recycling the name anyway.

If we're lucky enough to have another successful pregnancy and healthy baby, our boy name is William Dexter, after my husband and my uncle.

What do you all think of Beatrix Ann for a girl? Ann is my mother in laws middle name and we want to honor her in some way. We both LOVE LOVE LOVE  Beatrix and think it fits perfectly with Lucy and Violet. What do you think about the possible nick name of Trixie? Does it change your opinion of the name?

Thanks!

Mama to two perfect little girls.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I love Beatrix! I think the nickname Trixie would be adorable for a little girl.

    LOVE it!
  • Gotta say.....Trixie is the cutest darn nn I've heard in a long time.

  • I like Beatrix and think it works well with Lucy and Violet. Personally I dislike Trixie, though. Makes me think of trix cereal and women of unsavory character...

I second this. Trixie sounds a bit trashy to me but I do like Beatrix.
  • What about Bea as a NN?

  • I prefer Beatrice, but Beatrix isn't awful. I do think Bea is a much cuter nn than Trixie.

  • Back to say that I think B or Bea are cuter nicknames.
  • Thanks for the input guys! I tried to keep from swaying others opinions with my opinion of the nickname. Trixie makes me think of a stripper. Just being honest. I have zero issue with strippers.... I just don't want my underage child to be associated with it. I think B or Bea are much better options. I was just worried that Trixie might end up being the go to nn that other people would give her. After reading your opinions it seems that that might not be the case!

Thanks all. We'll definitely keep it on our short list!

  • I love it-so much it's my daughters name. She has many NNs but Bea is what most call her. If you are around a French speaking area be prepared for the Beatrice pronounciation-we don't mind it though.

  • I love Beatrix.  Don't love Trixie.  The stripper thing, sure.  But also, in Chicago, Trixie is slang for a certain type of 20-something white sorority girl with too much money and not enough brains.
I like nn Bea, BB, Betty, Betsy, Bess, Bette, Birdie, Bex
  • I am all for the NN Trixie!
I am a huge fan of 'Call the Midwife' and Beatrix, aka Trixie is such a good character! Very classic and timeless, not trashy at all imo.

  • Beatrix with the NN Trixie is on my long list and I agree that it fits perfectly with your sibset.

I once was looking at someone's necklace with LOVE spelled out and at first I thought it might be for her daughters (it wasn't) but I thought Lucy, Olivia, Violet, and Eloise would make such a pretty sibset. Random, sorry.
