Infertility

Myomectomy?

haa anyone had a myomectomy? I had my saline sono this morning, and they found a fibroid. My doctor is giving me the choice to proceed with treatment with a lower chance of success and higher chance of miscarriage or premature birth if I do get pregnant, or get the surgery and deal with the risks that come with that, plus at least 3 months postponement on IVF. I have absolutely no clue what to do, and was hoping some of you might be able to give me some guidance.

Hello. I have had two myomectomies. I had to wait 6 months after the second one before TTC again. Where is your fibroid and how big is it? Will you have increased risk of uterine rupture if you have the surgery? After I had my first one, I was told I would have to have c-sections due to this risk.

I'm not sure of where it is, but I do know it isn't very big. Risk of uterine rupture I'm not sure of, but you gave me some good questions to ask my RE. Thank you!!

I had a myomectomy just about a year ago. It was 3 months before we could ttc again. If possible,  I would try to take care of any possible problems you could could have during pregnancy. Each person is different,  but I had a relatively easy recovery after having 3 fibroids removed. Actually we only suspected a 3rd fibroid and didn't know for sure it was there until it was removed. The surgeon also said I had the beginning of endometriosis and he took care of that.  I  didn't even know I had that issue. I guess I'm in fake of surgery since if should take care of anything else that should be an issue.

I had two surgeries last summer to take care of fibroid issues. The first was a hysteroscopy, so relatively easy recovery and no issues. I was back up and out of the house by the next day. Unfortunately there were still a lot of fibroids so we did a laparoscopy in August to take care of the rest. That one was a bigger surgery, I was under anesthesia for over 4 hours, so recovery was a little more difficult. Even so, it was totally worth it. I can't imagine your doctor would recommend surgery unless they felt that the fibroid was in a location that would make pregnancy difficult. I kind of had an extreme case, with dozens of fibroids (my doctor said my uterus looked like a cobblestone walkway, eek!), so I didn't really have a choice.

@msirni0 You definitely want to find out where the fibroid is and how big it is. They tend to get bigger with pregnancy, so if it's in the uterine cavity, it might be worth removing. There are also potential complications. I had a blood clot after my first one that moved to my lung. Not fun. Get as much info as possible. After my surgeries, I still have fibroids growing. I'm not opting for another surgery though.

  • I had a myomectomy as well. My fibroid was grapefruit sized and I think subcutaneous. That was in 2011. I am still ttc. I'mean currently on ivf#2. I was pregnant but had still birth at 16 weeks. Not sure if it was fibroid that caused. But I started having extremely horrible AF. So I got it removed. My surgeon was very good and every RE or dr since says my uterus looks good. I would definitely make sure your surgeon /dr knows what they are doing. I have very little scary tissue. I have other issues in addition so the fibroid was and is not my only issue. Like another girl said...I would try to take care of it before you get pregnant. There's nothing worse than a stillbirth or miscarriage. Hth good luck and keep us posted!
