Jury duty

I posted in the June/July group as well but thought I'd see if anyone else had experienced this…

OMG I'm already nervous, stressed, excited, and so on for my IVF in July; we've been waiting for it since the Fall. Well this morning I was opening yesterday's mail and I have a jury summons for smack dab in the middle of my treatment! Of course I called my RE first thing this morning and left a message to see if he could write a note to excuse me but im so nervous that they'll say that it's not medically necessary. Has anyone gone through this?!

Can you not postpone it? I've pretty much always changed the date of mine to coincide with a good time for me to do it.

Yes, what @AandDM2014 said, jury duty can typically be postponed once or twice. But of course if your doc can get you out of it that's even better!

Also, I don't think it is medically necessary that you don't do jury duty because of IVF. They'll probably just tell you to postpone it for after you're done with appointments and surgeries.

I know it's nerve wracking to get the summons, but read it over and see what your options are for postponing. I've lived in many different places and have never had it happen that there was no flexibility on the day. I would be surprised if you need a note from your doctor or to give any reason at all. That said, I know it's hard to schedule stuff with the uncertainty that IF and fertility treatment comes. GL!

Ok sounds good. I have no problem doing jury duty at a later time, but I don't want it to interfere with my IVF cycle. I think I'll write that and try to have a dr note too. Also I meant I was nervous that the courts wouldn't excuse me because IVF is not a medically necessary procedure.

You can generally ask for a 90 day postponement for any reason at all, but maybe the RE can do a medical excuse. I just did mine and some people came in and were excused for medical reasons straight away before the selection process.

I totally postponed jury duty, and I didn't even need a note. Call the court and talk to them, explaining that you're happy to serve but you're undergoing IVF. They may ask for a note, or they maybe able to go ahead and move you to another calendar that doesn't conflict.

(They really like hearing that "happy to serve" line, so don't hesitate to butter them up with it!)

Thanks @KLake42. It's says on mine that I cannot call and I must write in. It only leaves a couple lines to write but I said I was having a medical procedure and needed daily injections. My RE said he'd write a note if it gets denied. I really wouldn't mind serving another time lol.
