A little goat cheese ok??

I've been good about cutting out soft cheeses during pregnancy.... But, is a little OK you think? Going out to dinner tonight for my birthday and trying to pick out a restaurant. Kinda craving Bonefish Grill and one of my fav dishes that I haven't had in forever is a chicken with goat cheese.

  • It's hard to say from a restaurant. But most goat cheese is pasteurized which makes it safe to eat.

    Maybe ask first?

I love goat cheese and eat it quite often!
    Hope you can enjoy!

  • Soft cheese isn't the problem, it's whether or not it's pasteurized. Ask the waiter to check before you order. If they don't know, I'd just order the dish without the goat cheese.

  • Nevermind... decided on Ruth's Chris instead lol   But good to know that if it is pasteurized I can eat goat cheese, because I love goat cheese on my salads!

  • Goat cheese is fine.

For the most part all cheeses sold in America are pasteurized. But I'm avoiding moldy cheeses (blue cheese, Gorgonzola, etc). But I've had a ton of goat cheese.
  • You can eat soft cheeses, it's just a matter of it being pasteurized. You'll be hard pressed  to find unpasteurized cheese in the US.  That said, I did come across it once during my first pregnancy at a super fancy restaurant.  A chain like Bonefish Grill will definitely use pasteurized cheeses so it's totally fine.  Maybe just ask to give yourself comfort but it's fine.

  • I've been eating a lot of soft cheese, all of it is pasteurized and everything seems to be well. Enjoy your goat cheese!

  • You go for it! I love goat (and most other) cheeses and have yet to have a problem with it and any of my other pregnancies.
