Loss or my dates are wrong??...

So according to my lmp I should be 7 weeks and a few days. On Monday I started spotting. On Tuesday I seen my doctor and she sent me for blood work.  Wednesday I had an ultrasound and the baby only measured 4 weeks and a few days. So the u/'s tech booked me in for 2 weeks to see if any progress. Tried to talk to my doctor today but couldn't get through to her. She had also told me she would only call with the news that my levels hadn't doubled. I'm normally pretty regular except a few months ago I had a positive pregnancy test at home but the lab said I wasn't. Anyways. Long story short I'm having a week from hell and stuck in no man's land where I have no idea if I'm having a miscarriage or my dates were wrong. I guess I should note I'm still spotting with a mixture of red blood with clots normally at night and brown throughout the day. A bit of cramping but what I would say is normal for pregnancy.
I just need to get this off my chest..

Re: Loss or my dates are wrong??...

  • I hope you get good news! It's weird to me that they would only call with the bad news. With my MMC last October, they had my levels checked and then said to come back in about two days to have them taken again. They had me wait there while they got the results on the second draw, so it's weird to me that they wouldn't call you with good news. Did they say how long it will take them to call you if there is something wrong?

From my experience, brown spotting is good. Clots are a little worrisome and so is the bright red blood. Have they ruled out anything else like a subchorionic hemorrhage? It is possible that if you ovulated late or that your cycle is longer than 28-30 days that you wouldn't be as far along as you thought.

  • I'm sorry you're stuck in limbo. Many t&p's.
  • How stressful. I hope your dates are just off. I'll be thinking of you!
  • Anything can happen.  Were you temping/tracking ovulation and cycles?  A sustained temp shift or ultrasound is the only way to confirm ovulation and that part of your cycle is the most likely to fluctuate (meaning it's not uncommon to O late) based on stress, illness, travel, etc.  The bleeding is not great, but it's not the only factor.  Crossing my fingers for you.
If it were me, I would be on the phone with my doc ASAP to get answers.  I don't do waiting well. Get whoever you can on the phone and tell them you need your results. It's your health results, if they give you a hard time and this is a viable pregnancy I'd find a new doc.

  • So sorry you're going through this. As @DiFazette said, unless you were temping or had ultrasounds to confirm ovulation, your dates could be off. Thinking of you and hoping you get good news. Unfortunately, all you can really do at this time is wait to see what the next u/s shows. I know the waiting is horrendously terrible.

I agree your doc should be more communicative. When I had a MMC, my doc sent me for blood draws (including progesterone, which can help indicate whether the pregnancy is viable) and kept me posted on the exact results. It seems like your Ob is being flippant about your feelings, which is wrong. This may be routine for them, but it isn't routine for you.

Anyway, fingers crossed that everything is fine.

  • Hoping all goes well for you! WE had a similar situation where the dates seemed a little off and had to wait a week for another ultrasound and it was definitely hard - but I agree with the others about asking for your lab results - that was the only thing that kept me sane during my wait between ultrasounds

  • I'm so sorry you're stuck in this horrible limbo. PPs have given a lot of good advice, and I hope you just ovulated later than you thought. I would keep checking in with the physician for answers. I hope you receive positive news soon. <hugs>

  • We were in the same boat earlier this week... I had blood work done to confirm increase in hormone levels and also a follow up u/s later this week. I think we were approx 14 days off due to cycle length. Stay strong through limbo and positive thoughts on your next u/s.
