Gender Blood Test/Gender Reveal BANG

Anyone plan on doing the gender blood test at 10weeks? I called my doctor yesterday and she now offers it (she didn't two years ago with my first born). I'll have to pay the $150 but if I'm 7w3d today like I think, we can do blood work in 3 weeks and find out what we're having!! Can't believe we will know so soon!!
im a huge party planner and if family is in town, plan to do a 4th of July gender reveal and set off blue or pink fireworks. I can't wait!!

What do you all plan to do?

I'm 35 and this test is now standard for moms over 35 where I live so I will be getting it. I've been toying with the idea of being team green this go around though so having that info in an envelope may kill me

  • I think we're going to do the early blood testing and find out Gender too!

The anatomy scan is also to check on baby and gender is a secondary option at that time. I don't see the difference in using the blood testing that is meant for something else to find out gender or using the anatomy scan that is meant for something else to find out gender.

  • If it's offered and covered by insurance I'll definitely do it. I'll take anything that can help determine if my baby is healthy.

But not to find out the sex of the baby. We're team green anyway.

  • I did Panoroma with my son.  It was great to know everything checked out ok and finding out the sex was a nice perk.

I would acknowledge that The test is for testing chromosome abnormalities and wouldn't refer to it as a gender test.

I hope your tests comes back normal ❤️
  • If it's offered I'm totally going to do it! I understand that it's not only to find out the sex but if it can also determine it while ruling out those problems then why not? I'm too much a planner to be team green so the sooner we know the better!

I did it with my daughter and was so glad. Had peace of mind about her health and found out that we were having a girl very early :) debating doing the same this time, or waiting for anatomy scan so hubby and I can be surprised (alone) together!
  • @Jkp7749 so when you found out was it something they call you with results or do you get a paper with all the info and that's on it? Trying to figure out if we do this if we can keep it a surprise from ourselves and give to a baker etc...never done it before so not sure how it works!

So they discussed the genetic testing results with us but we told them not to tell us the gender. They put that info in an envelope and we took it to get our reveal stuff made- it was so hard not to peak!!
  • Gotcha! So you just go over results at the next OB appointment?  Ahhhh, I'm getting excited, we haven't found out gender since DS2!

I can't remember if they gave results over phone or in the office, but they get them quickly!!
  • What is the test called? Is it new? My first LO was born Dec 2014 and I wasn't offered it. Maybe this pregnancy...

I'd like the sex to be a surprise. :)

  • Hey guys! So I've done a lot of research on this test as there are some members of my DH's family with chromosomal abnormalities. We are very interested in figuring out if our LO will have anything related. The test is called cell-free fetal DNA testing. Basically they can take baby's DNA and separate it out from the mother's blood and do tests for disorders such as Downs Syndrome and a whole other list of abnormalities. Because you are actually studying the baby's DNA, that's how you can decide if you want to know the gender. What's great about this test is that it's non-invasive. My doc said I can do this test at 10 weeks and we are definitely going to! Note that it is not covered by most insurances if you are under 35 but there are workarounds. With ours we just called the testing company directly and I believe it will end up costing us around $200. Ask your doc!

  • Is this amniocentesis?  I opted out of that test with my son.  There are risks, minimal risks but still risks... I have no interest in being a sad statistic.

  • lurking from o16...@wholesome the post before you explains what the test is. an amnio is typically done as further testing if the bloodwork is abnormal.
  • Thanks Zoes!

  • We had the testing with our first but didn't find out the sex at that time, we waited until our 20 week scan.  This time we'll test again, I'm 35 so I now fall into the higher risk of abnormality group.  Definitely finding out the sex early this time,  I can't wait!  I'm 8 weeks on Monday and they tested at 10 weeks last time and then another week for results...so hopefully just 3 more weeks!
  • I had the harmony test done with my son to check for any abnormalities. It was just icing on the cake that we were able to find out the gender from the test too.
  • I think we are going to opt for the test. We have had miscarriages in the past related to genetic problems. Although it was all probably just bad luck, I would rather have that piece of mind. I agree that finding out the gender is just the icing on the cake.
