Blump-friendly dress styles

Okay so I have a wedding to go to in three weeks and by the end of the day, I have a beer gut. Then I have a wedding to go to at 20 weeks. I expect I will have a perma-beer gut by then. I'm thinking not maternity dresses....

Any thoughts as to what cuts/styles make blumps and small bumps unnoticeable/cute rather?

Re: Blump-friendly dress styles

  • Maxi dresses have been a life saver for me lately. Also anything with an empire waiste as its roomy enough to accommodate any bloat/bump.

That's cute. I was going to suggest something more structured and a heavier fabric. My maxis and knit dresses are comfy, but they definitely cling to the belly and I look huge in them by the end of the day.
  • I'm a little concerned with that style that I'll blump higher than that waistline is my only hesitation...

  • I stick with A-line and Empire waist.  I'm quite tall though which changes where the waistline hits.  Old Navy has some cute stuff right now.

@JessCL Said it: empire waists are the way to go. Gives your waist line definition while it hides the blumpiness.
  • I'll be getting married at 6 months pregnant...you know I'll be looking for an empire waist then :D
  • I think empire, that dress you posted is cute but if you bump high like I do it would be a big problem.  At 20 weeks you'll probably look pregnant (though you are tiny) you could choose to show the bump off!  I'd wait until 4 weeks before to see what your body is doing.  Old navy had some pretty maternity maxis for weddings last I was there.

  • This is not everyone's style but I'm looking at flowy dresses that do not gather at all..

  • I sure hope I'm showing by 20 weeks - I wasn't last time and it SUCKED having everything crammed in. I'm already flunking out so I have a feeling this time I'll be showing by like 15. I'll def wait for that dress and do something empire for this one. I want to do some sort of empire wrap thing but after some heavy online searching, I can't find anything in a thick material

  • Flowy and forgiving like @cayaylonglegs posted is my go-to for pregnancy.  I blow up from right under my boobs so I can't do empire waists... they're so incredibly tight and uncomfortable while sitting.
