Moving to a New House?

Anyone else realize their house/ apartment is too small for the new baby (babies for some of you)

DH and I have a 2 Br apartment currently, but I don't think I can fit any more baby gear  :s. It's already a little cramped with one babe, can't imagine how tight it's gonna feel with two!! I'm thinking it might be time to just buckle down and buy a house already

Re: Moving to a New House?

  • We have a one bed!! We live in one of the most expensive cities so I'm not even sure we could afford a two bed and daycare in the area we live (I LOVE the area). Our lease is up when the baby will be 2 months old too... YAY.

Eventually we'll move somewhere else (I can't do london forever) but right now I'd like to stay where we are and see if we can make it work...

  • Yep, we're moving over fourth of july weekend. Not because our house is too small but because the commute to our jobs is slowly killing us and we feel like we never see our kids. Plus DD is starting kindergarten and we needed a different school that we were routed to. It is STRESSFUL but much better to move while pregnant than move with a newborn.

  • Yeah our lease runs out in August and we had been planning to move even before we were pregnant. We just can't stay in this horrible apartment complex anymore, so we're moving into a complex where the apartments all look like houses and have backyards. We're not quite ready to buy yet, but this is a good middle ground. Plus, single story/single family means no upstairs neighbors.

  • I hear you!  Our house will fit us but I want something newer with a better layout so we're looking at properties around town and hope to sell this fall and build something that will suit us better.  We looking at single family floor plans that have a 1-2 bedroom rental apartment to help with income.  I can just feel the clock ticking!

  • Glad I'm not the only one lol
p.s for everyone moving, consider getting a place with carpet for when LOs are crawling/ tummy time. It's always a nightmare for me at my parents house since DS likes to move around in his own. I know it's a ways off, but something I never even considered before he was here
  • We are moving states in three weeks for DH to start his residency training. We have always rented so I am excited we are buying this place so we can do what ever we want with the nursery.

  • This topic is relevant to my interests, as we literally resigned our lease for another year the week before I found out I was pregnant. Meaning, we will be in a one bedroom with a baby for about 6 months. Our goal is to try to save up as big a down payment as possible in the next year so that we can buy a house and move in right when our lease is up, but I worry we may not quite get there. We keep feeling like we don't know enough about how much we really need to put down so we just want more more more saved. It's very stressful
  • Rosenyc123, that may be great timing!  When my baby was an infant, we had him in a small bassinet next to our bed for the first few months before I transitioned him to sleeping in his crib in his room.  You might be able to do something similar with your move. :)

  • We had a small 2 BR condo when DS was born. It was also a third floor walk up with street parking only.  DS was born in January and by November we bought a house in the 'burbs.
  • We sold our home, and moved in with the in laws while waiting for our new house to be ready. Two days later found out I was pregnant! The new house needs renovations but is on 5 acres and we're so excited to have so much more space for our family! We will be with the in laws through the first trimester most likely while the house is fixed up. A little overwhelmed with all of it at the moment, but looking forward to settling in the new place before the new baby arrives!

  • We've been planning on buying my aunt's house for some time now but it's big and we've been budgeting trying to save as much as possible....and here comes baby! Budgeting isn't going to be quite as easy now but we're hoping to move by maybe September,  before winter comes and before I'm gigantic! Moving with a baby sounds less than ideal so we'd love to move before and have a fresh start with our new addition :)

Excellent point about the carpet! I nearly had a heart attack while DD was learning not to bang her head on the hardwood as she rolled over. DH was so worried, and it might sound bad, but I knew she would learn to tuck her chin a little when she rolled, and she did! Basic human survival instinct/ intelligence. I'm so relieved to have carpet  now. Also, babies turning into toddlers are great motivation to vacuum; they make messes quickly, and leaving the mess there is a health hazard.

We actually move next month into our new apartment.  We wanted something cheaper to save money. Its a 2 bdr, which one room is DH music room  :# so we will have to have a combo master bedroom/nursery.
