Friday (TGIF) check-in

Good morning!  I need something to keep me awake today so let's start checking in...

How far along are you?

Rants/Raves/Symptoms?

What are you doing to prepare for baby?

Questions?

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)?

How far along are you? 35w tomorrow

    Rants/Raves/Symptoms?
Rave: Big appetite today and yesterday- that's a lot more enjoyable than raging heartburn and nausea.
Rant: Exhausted. This day is definitely going to go slowly. My daughter had a restless night and I am already almost maxed out on my caffeine allowance for today.
Nothing new, symptom-wise... glad to say my groin pain is much better.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? I feel like we're more-or-less ready.  My daughter is being really clingy right now so I don't think anything can really prepare her enough.

Questions? I'm super-rigid about the recommended 200mg of caffeine in a day but at this point, is going a little wild (dare I think of 300mg?) sometimes really a big deal?  I LOVE coffee so it takes a lot of daily restraint to not overdo it.  Today is definitely a day where I could use some extra pep.

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)?
I LOVE summer.  I'm hoping to get to at least one folk festival (my dad is actually playing at one this year so that's kind of cool), spend as much time as possible on patios, maybe finally have people over on our deck (we used to entertain fairly often and haven't since the fall) etc. etc.  Bring it on!

    Rants/Raves/Symptoms?

Rant: I'm definitely over being pregnant. I was doing/feeling good then on Wednesday a switch flipped and I'm just over it lol. I'm ready to have my body somewhat back to myself and be able to sleep on my stomach and not pee literally 15+ times a day!

Rave: I have had an easy pregnancy and overall loved it, it's just a long damn time bahaha! My husband is being so wonderful though! AND only 8 more days of work left clinging today!

Symptoms: intense pelvic/hip pressure, lightning crotch, what I'm hoping are the start of some mild, irregular contractions, low back pain, EXHAUSTED!

What are you doing to prepare for baby? basically everything is ready to go! Well, as ready as it can be!

Questions? How do you make these last couple weeks not drag?!

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)? Nothing crazy, probably some park outings, summer festivals etc. It'll take some adjusting in our lives once Evelyn is here! But we're excited <3 oh, and wine & sangria!!!
  • @SMLmom I read the book "Expecting Better" around the time I got pregnant, and the author of that book claimed, based on her review of the existing research, that 200 mg is a very conservative caffeine allowance. I'm certainly no expert on caffeine consumption, but there are rational people out there who would say that you should be fine if you need an extra cup of coffee once in awhile. I hope you're able to get some rest this weekend!

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? This week has absolutely CRAWLED by, so I'm thrilled that it's finally Friday! Also, I've noticed that if I get a 1-2 mile walk in during the day, I sleep much better at night. It's been great to get good sleep this week, even if it is a little depressing that walking a mile is enough to knock me out for 8 hours.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? We're kind of just waiting to meet him at this point. We've done everything we can think of doing in preparation, although I'm sure once he gets here we'll discover a million ways in which we're unprepared.

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)? I'm hoping to make a trip up to Michigan at some point to see family and show off the new baby. It's about a 5 1/2 hour drive at a normal pace, so it will kind of depend on how well the little guy handles car rides.
  • How far along are you? 38 weeks today!

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Still have a nasty cold, the start of pelvic pain. Hardly any contractions but today is my last day at work! starting maternity leave Monday!!!

What are you doing to prepare for baby? The only thing we have left to do is install the car seat.

    Questions? None right now

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)? Nope! on Maternity leave til mid July, DD1 will not be returning to her learning center til July so spending time with her, H, new LO, and our fur baby Bella <3

@annaf2011 that sounds good to me (about the coffee).  Btw, was it you who recommended "Labor Day" (book)?  I'm really enjoying it and I can't remember who on here suggested it- but it MIGHT have been you (if it wasn't, hey, here's a book recommendation....).
  • How far along are you? 36w3d

Rant: I pretty much have no patience to train my temp anymore, not after her massive freak-out yesterday. I feel guilty for feeling the way because I know what she's taking on is a lot to handle...but seriously, get your shit together. We've gone over practically every possible scenario she could encounter, practiced procedures over and over, and talked about how she has the whole team to lean on if she needs help or has questions (the team is awesome, really great people to work with). I know she can do this, she's not dumb...she just lacks confidence.

Raves: We locked down a daycare yesterday! Our son won't be attending until April next year, but we wanted to get a jumpstart since most daycares here are already full and you end up on a wait list for who knows how long. We didn't want to carry that weight on our shoulders, one less thing to stress about.

Symptoms: Peeing more frequently, pelvic pressure, heartburn, random diarrhea

What are you doing to prepare for baby? We're installing the car seat base this weekend and getting a mattress pad for our bed, in case my water breaks while I'm sleeping. Otherwise we just need to finish packing our hospital bag.

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)? I'm just looking forward to picnics in the park.

    Rants/Raves/Symptoms?

Rant - Started having very slight cramps yesterday.

Rave - Went to the doc yesterday and I'm 1/2 cm dilated, so hopefully that means the cramps were at least productive. Otherwise, she's head down and about 6.5 lbs. Also, I start my maternity leave in a week!

Symptoms - Groin pain, snoring, nasal congestion, and the aforementioned cramps.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? This weekend we take our Childbirth Prep classes and Monday is Baby Care Basics. Hubby isn't very good at lectures (my breastfeeding class on Wednesday was a bit of a trainwreck).

    Questions?

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)? In July my parents are renting a beach house near us, so I'll spend at least a week at the beach with my family. Then later this summer we'll be moving cross country and hopefully hitting a few National Parks on the way.

    DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Rant - More and more cramping and BH, but no regular contractions.  So ready for this baby's arrival.  Rave -  Planning on getting a pedicure and manicure tomorrow.  Also happy the weather is finally nice here!!! Symptoms - Lightning crotch, peeing often, pooping issues (it's either constipation or diarrhea, no in between) plus cramping makes it more uncomfortable.

What are you doing to prepare for baby?  Nothing really, we are basically ready and waiting.

Questions?  Is anyone keeping towels in their car or anywhere in case their water breaks???

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)?  My parents bought a house on Lake Huron this past fall and we (my brothers, their kids, and the 4(!) of us) are all staying there for a week in August.  I'm also hoping to make a few weekend trips there since it's less than 2 hours away.
  • @SMLmom it was not me who recommended "Labor Day," but now I'm going to have to check it out!
  • How far along are you? 37w4d

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Rant - Decided it was time to take my rings off. Apparently I should have done it weeks ago, because my wedding/engagement rings are going nowhere. At least I got off the ring I always wear on my right hand. Looks like the dental floss trick is in my future. Sigh. Rave - According to my doc on Wednesday, my baby will probably be around 8.5 lbs at birth. I was expecting MUCH worse considering how huge my husband is and how far ahead on the growth charts this baby has been most of my pregnancy, so yay! Symptoms - Swelling everywhere, crotch pain, just generally uncomfortable

What are you doing to prepare for baby?  Packing up the house. I'm trying to get all the baby stuff organized even though I dont' have furniture to put it in. Went and took advantage of once upon a child's clearance on clothes yesterday, so I will be washing all that stuff today.

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)?  Moving! Booked the movers for the end of June (eek!) Otherwise, my MIL is coming to stay with us in our new town for 4th of July weekend and the town has a huge celebration for it so we'll take baby to that. Otherwise, just getting settled
  • @jschlaud I never even thought about keeping towels in my car in case my water breaks, but that's a great idea!

How far along are you? 37 weeks

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Rant - I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable at work, but on the bright side next Friday is my last day!  Rave -  This weekend is supposed to be beautiful, and my husband and I don't have many plans, so I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with him before the baby arrives. Symptoms - Lightning crotch, general discomfort (especially by the end of the day).

What are you doing to prepare for baby?  I arranged for a lactation consultant to come to our house next week for a private class. And this weekend, I'll be packing the hospital bag, and washing all of the baby's clothes, blankets, towels, etc.

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)?  Absolutely nothing! Just planning to enjoy some time at home with the new baby :)

    Rants/Raves/Symptoms?
Doc says im 2cm as on Wednesday. No contractions or anything but the pelvic pressure is crazy. Hopefully another week and she will be here!

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
We got the car seat bases in last night!

    Questions?
Doc swept my membranes on Wedneaday. Anyone else had this done yet?

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)?
I cannot wait to go swimming and camping! Will probably be difficult with baby. Anyone have any advice for camping with a 2 month baby, products that work good, can you tent camp successfully?
  • @Alanna999 & @jschlaud I'm doing a garbage bag on the seat with a towel on top, in case it soaks through. We're also getting a waterproof mattress pad for our bed, just in case.
  • How far along are you? 37w6d

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Rant- had my first episode of prodromal labor this morning and got super excited that it was the real thing, just to be let down when the contractions just stopped after 4 hrs of everything 8-10 minutes Rave- we have everything ready to go including frozen meals, so I've been spending my evenings and weekends catching up on tv shows and my favorite movies  Symptoms- baby has "dropped" and I'm having constant pubic symphysis pain and constantly have the poops at work  :# Now that there is less pressure on my stomach my appetite has gone crazy!

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Keeping the house clean and trying to relax as much as possible.

Questions? For the STM...other than sex, any tips to promote labor?

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)? I live on the east coast and am heading the beach at the end of my maternity leave in July!

    How far along: 37+5

rants/ raves/ symptoms: getting our new garage door this morning, last of the home improvements for a while. Finally packed my bag!!! I have been feeling "weird" and "off" today so we will see if that means anything. Menstrual like cramping has set in.

GTKY: Maybe taking a "small" family vacation as in to Colorado Springs or Steamboat Springs or somewhere just a few hours away in case traveling with two small children and a newborn totally sucks!
  • How far along are you?38 weeks 3 days

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Ugh: So I woke up feeling horrible, waking up to pee every hour last night didn't help sleep. I have been having BH contractions(barely feel them) and hot flashes all morning so i'm literally a sweat box now. Also, I haven't had hardly one shred of heartburn this whole pregnancy and apparently because I ate fruit this morning, it decided to show up blah.. I feel like utter crap. Peeing every time I get up, I feel "weird" down there a lot lately.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Organizing all baby stuff into our tiny studio apartment. Baby appointment today, might get them to check me because we thought I was leaking  few days ago but no one said for me to come in so.

Questions? I know its not relevant at all to when you'll give birth, but was there anything out of the ordinary that made you wonder if you were going to be in labor fairly soon? Like intuition or something? Some sign that you felt "off?"

GTKY: Any exciting summer plans (after giving birth of course)? We'll see, told DH I really want to throw a 4th of July party this year since we've been out of state every year for it. Other than that no clue.

@KRuthie25 I was a failure at promoting labour--- tried raspberry tea, spicy food... my daughter was induced after 2 weeks of waiting past her due date with no action.  We'll see how it goes this time around for me ;)

  • @SMLmom Thanks for the advice!  I've been drinking raspberry tea w/ nettles (for extra iron) three times a day for the past week and a half and other than my episode of prodromal labor this morning it hasn't really done much for me either....
  • @kbequette08, FTM here. I had a "feeling" super early on in the pregnancy that we were having a boy. No idea why, just had this gut feeling that he was a boy. 50/50 chance, right? Turns out, my hunch was correct. Anywho, a week or so ago, I dunno why...but I had a feeling I'd be a week early for delivery. No clue where it came from, there wasn't anything that would even indicate that I was any closer to the "big day" than usual.

I'm not saying my gut feeling about the gender was right, I think it was just plain luck. I'm definitely not saying that I will absolutely be going into labor a week earlier than June 16th (my current due date), but if it happens...cool? I try not to give any of it much weight but it's fun to ponder on sometimes.

My husband and I were wondering if our dog would exhibit any unusual behavior when the due date draws near. Would be interesting if she did!

My cat was super clingy to me last night and wouldn't leave my side, feeling super weird today. We will see if anything happens in the next couple of days, I wonder if they can senses changes.
  • @Tawny87 Our bullie sits outside the bathroom whenever I go in and on the weekends, she will wait outside our bedroom for me to wake up. She basically stands watch. She favors my side of the couch too and is my shadow in general since I started the 3rd rrimester. She used to favor my husband, he's a little jealous but thinks it's sweet too.

    Gotta love our animals!!
  • @SMLmom I think it was me who recommended "Labor Day". So glad you are enjoying it! I actually paged through a few stories the other day after a bad day of cramps and BH :)
