Ear tubes

Ok guys, anyone out there fighting ear infections left and right? Any insight on tubes? My daughter will be 8 months next week and has battled several ear infections. Have a follow up appointment this week for her ears and I'm afraid tubes are going to be the discussion. Anyone experiencing this or does your LO have tubes? I feel like they are too young for it :(

Re: Ear tubes

  • We have had 2 double infections so far and they haven't brought up tubes yet. But my friends daughter had about 5 by 8 mos so at 9 mos she got tubes. She's been happy and infection free since. She said the procedure was crazy fast too. Like a half hour and it was little to no recovery time as well. Tubes are super common nowadays. I know nobody wants to think about their baby and surgery but I think even if your daughter needs tubes, it shouldn't be too traumatic. At least for her. I'm sure as the parent it's much harder :(

  • My #2 kiddo got tubes at 10 months old. No problems.

my friend has a 12 month old and she's battled EI for awhile and tried the chiropractor and hasn't had any since. Might try that route first and then go from there.
  • Both of my older kids had tubes put in after 1.  They both hear well today.  DD1 had the "worst set of ears" my dr had seen in his 30 year tenure.  She got the tubes 5 years ago and didn't get another infection again.  DD2 had mild ears, got tubes and had an ear infection while getting her tubes.  She has had 2-3 infections in the past 4 years since getting tubes. Moral to the story - make sure your DD is 100% healthy when getting the tubes!

  • DS got tubes when he turned 2. Very quick and easy procedure. I wish we had pushed for it sooner. He was a different kid after having it done. He was much happier and started talking more almost immediately. He has had 2 infections since the tubes but nothing in almost a year. We were also able to treat his infections with drops instead of antibiotics. I think it was the best choice for my son.

LO has had one ear infection so far but I'm fearing he currently has another.  Doctors appointment is the works for tomorrow. My 6 year old had recurrent ear infections from 11 months til 2 years despite antibiotics. The infection would leave and come back leave and come back. It was a terrible cycle.  He ended up having tubes put in.  They stayed in for 2 years.  He's now 6 and has been ear infection free since. I wish I agreed to them sooner.  I was very hesitant to agree
  • My step daughter had tubes put in as well as her adenoids cauterized and tonsils removed before she was 2 (she was an extremely sickly child) and it made a massive difference in her health.

My daughter has had 5 ear infections in 7 months. She's 8 months now and we got back to the ENT dr. for a follow up on the morning. We are in talks for tubes but we're to see how the follow up goes.
  • DD1 had 10 ear infections in 8 months. 10 was the threshold our pedi went by before referring us to an ENT.  The ENT said my daughter had the worst ears he had seen in his 31 years of practicing.  She had tubes at 2 years old and never had an ear infection again (she's 7 now).  DD2 had 6 ear infections in less than a year so I went straight to the ENT and asked for tubes.  She had surgery at 16 months and while her ears weren't nearly as bad, she did have an infection during the surgery.  It should've been treated and surgery rescheduled in my opinion, but instead they operated.  She's had a few ear infections since (she's 5 now) and ended up with a perforated ear drum on one side, which healed itself in 3 months without treatment.  DD3 has been infection free so far, knock on wood.  Good luck!!
