  • Agree, complete waste of money @midwestbaby

I had my hospital tour and it was just 3 of us that were pregnant and showed up, one of them proceeds to ask what should she be looking at for her hospital gown because she is bringing her own, i believe that is a complete waste of money and i will dirty up as many at the hospital before i dirty any of my clothes. My cousin said maybe she is trying to follow her family trend where she will keep her gown for decades to come. Personally that is something i would not do. Then the nurse told her ask your OB because they are the ones that will give you the OK and are the ones delivering your baby.

My unpopular opinion is that I think the Cards Against Humanity game is stupid. You have to have the sense of humor of a 14 year old boy to enjoy it. Flame away!!
  • My UO is I don't think grandparents have "rights". While as long as they aren't a danger to my children I'm not going to keep them from them, I also, as the parent, can choose who my kids are around and who they aren't going to be around. It's not fair to assume that just because they are grandma or grandpa that they automatically get to be involved in the child's life.

Also, like my in laws, they choose not to involve themselves in DDs life very often. They see her when we bring her up there and what not but make no effort otherwise so I'm not going to go out of my way to make sure they see this LO like I did with DD because it's wasted effort in my opinion.
  • Also, I think it's funny that admin already stickied the labor buddies thread AND closed the duplicate UO thread(since when do they do that crap?) and yet the announcements have yet to be taken down. Wtf.
The three are now gone! No more looking at 20 pages of introduce yourself at the top! Wahoo!
I must've posted this without refreshing my page! Whoops.
  • I think mac and cheese with sriracha sauce is bombdotcom.
  • midwestbaby TOTALLY AGREE!  Especially when they're infants. I learned my lesson with DD - I was obsessed with baby shoes and quickly learned that they don't.stay.on.ever.no.matter.what.you.do. lol.  There's no sense in buying shoes of any kind for a baby until they can walk.  That said, I don't skimp out of my DD's shoes because I want to make sure she has quality supportive shoes as she's growing, and especially when she was learning to walk.  I have horribly flat feet, so I know how much shoes can make a difference.  The best for them is actually to be barefoot, but when we'd be out somewhere obviously they need shoes.  I will pay $40+ for her shoes, but I find they don't grow out of shoes nearly as fast as they grow out of clothing sizes.  I'm not sure how I feel about moccasins in particular, but they're not really my style and DD has never had a pair.  She did have a pair of real baby Uggs, and I did get them into a photo shoot...this was before I learned my lesson LOL.

As for crib bumpers, we did eventually use them once she was maybe 9-10 mos old because her hands and feet were getting stuck in the crib rails.  We asked our pedi about it first, and he was like well the recommendation is that you're not supposed to use them anymore, BUT in my 35 years of practice I've never seen a baby die from being suffocated by a crib bumper.  And he left it at that.

My UO, and it's going to be a controversial one, is that I just can't get on board with wearing a bikini while pregnant.  I know lots of women do it, and I saw a bunch in Disney, which is what made me think of this - but I just can't get there.  I've tried, I really have, and I feel better in my pregnant body that I ever have in my life, but I just can't get on the pregnant-in-a-bikini bandwagon.  Tankinis I'm good with, and that's usually what I wear, but showing the whole belly - nope, can't do it, not a fan.

  • @SkiChic626 I can't do pregnant bikinis because of my stretch marks. They weren't too bad with DD but they've exploded this time around.
  • @Lynnlove28 I don't even have bad stretch marks, I just don't like it - I don't feel the need to expose my belly.  Aaaargh it actually gives me heebie-jeebies thinking about it LOL

  • @midwestbaby *sad face* i bought some of those moccasins from zulilly.....i just couldn't help myself! But I would never spend $60 on ANYTHING for a baby. (Clothing wise)
  • I have some pretty tame ones this week. But I think the following two baby things are a waste of money.

The baby moccasins craze. Sure I suppose they are cute. But, the company (freshly picked) that everyone seems to rave about on Instagram sells them for a mere 60 dollars a pair! I would never spend 60 bucks on infant shoes, especially when they don't need them. Heck I have a hard time spending 60 dollars on a pair of shoes for myself, which I would wear for years and years.

Also, I don't really think this is an unpopular opinion, but crib bumpers. I feel like it is pretty well known that they increase the risk of SIDS. And yet people still buy them and take photos of them in the cute little decorated nurseries and say things like "oh they are just for looks, I won't keep them on when the baby sleeps in there." Then why buy them? SMH.
I got mine on eBay for $4 shipped. DH hates them but I think they are so cute.

  • @emmeline714 People SAVE their hospital gowns!? What the what?! That kind of grosses me out...lol.

My UO for today: I do not understand houses that have more bathrooms than bedrooms. I have several friends house-shopping right now and I keep seeing houses on the market with 3 beds, 4-5 baths. Who needs that many bathrooms when they only have enough people to fill three bedrooms?!

Maybe they have multiple master bathrooms and powder rooms that they're listing as bathrooms??? lol  My parents house has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.  They have two master suites because they had an addition put on and kept the existing master bedroom as a guest room.  Then there was a bathroom where the old bedrooms used to be that they turned into just a half bath so that the floor would still have a bathroom you didn't need to go through the bedroom to get to, and in the basement there's a bathroom by where their indoor hot tub is located.  Then, on the new level, there is a new master suite and another full bathroom to accommodate the added bedrooms up there.  They have an even number of each, but maybe what you're seeing are are results of renovations.

    @midwestbaby

I also hate baby shoes for infants. I think they are adorable (just because they are so small) but I just cant imagine spending money on something that an infant doesn't even need. I actually told my mom, sisters and MIL not to buy baby shoes until the baby can walk...I'm not sure they liked that too much but oh well.

  • I think fedoras look douche-y on babies!  My MIL wants to do a photo shoot with them once the baby arrives.  I don't think I'll be blowing those pictures up!

We live in a 2 bedroom, 3 bath house now. The 2 bedrooms each have a bath and then there's a bathroom on the main floor, for guests, and so you don't have to go upstairs to use the bathroom. I could definitely live without the bathroom in DS's room, but that's mostly because he's not potty trained yet.

My house growing up with a 3 bed, 4 bath. One master bathroom plus another one for the other two bedrooms upstairs, a half bath downstairs. Then my mom added another half bath in the basement when she got it finished. Never once seemed weird to me to have more bathrooms than people. It just made sense to have one on each floor (plus the master).

Agreed! DH always wants one and I've had to have several conversations about it. No, just no.

Ew. Who has room to save every little thing like that? I'm not even saving my wedding gown because it takes up too much space!!

My husband has a large collection of fedoras (about 20) and he went out and bought a baby size fedora for the spawnling. He is so excited for the baby and he to wear their fedoras together. I think it is the sweetest thing.

I also think anyone who wants to can wear a bikini. Go nuts, have fun, celebrate your body. Apply sunscreen liberally.
  • My UO is between myself and my husband.

He INSISTS we should reuse our 2011 city mini for baby. It has been well loved, has mold stains, worn, etc. He can't get over how much his parent spent (again, 5 years ago) and how it's just the perfect stroller, he knows how to use it, hasn't broken it, etc.

My MIL wanted to buy us a new stroller and he said no.

    I may strangle him.
  • I am a bikini person.  I wear one while I'm not pregnant so why cover up my belly just because it got a little bigger.

My dd wears moccasins, although, I buy them off etsy for a lot less than fp. I am willing to pay for good shoes as soon as they start walking but don't find much point before then.

My UO is that I absolutely HATE how large my chest gets while pregnant and nursing. As if I don't look big enough, these watermelons make me look ridiculous.
