This is long!
Our Levi James was born at 12:20 am on May 19th, 8lbs 2 oz and 21.5 inches long!
DH and I checked in for an induction at 8:30 pm on May 17th due to polyhydraminos. I was quickly checked in and given the first dose of Cervadil for cervical ripening. Much to my doctor's surprise, the Cervadil sent me into active labor directly after the second dose...until it didn't. Adding Pitocin was always a part of the plan to get me into labor.
Beginning at 4:30 I was experiencing hard contractions every 2-3 minutes and the nurse was convinced it would not be long. Then the doctor came in and checked me and I was still only 3cm. Contractions started easing up around 6:30 am and he ordered Pitocin which began around 8:00 am. This shot up the contractions again and I started feeling intense pain within 20 mins of starting the drip. He was also about to break my water which he indicated could be very painful given the status of my cervix (btw - I could NOT believe how much fluid came out when he broke my water. No one could. It was endless). I asked for the epidural and it came quickly and was amazing.
By noon I was at a 7 with complete effacement. For whatever reason I was battling nausea throughout the entire experience and was really having a hard time laying in certain positions because of it. I got some Zofran and that helped ease it off.
Around 2:00 pm I had reached 9cm but baby would not descend, he simply refused. I sat at a 9 with total effacement from 2:00 until 9:00 pm, all the while getting higher and higher doses of Pitocin. Even with the epi, I had intense pressure in the butt area with every contraction. The doctor came in and said he would give me until 11:30 pm to have some change in baby's position or we would have to discuss other options - CSsction (after 15 hours of active labor).
To *try* to make this shorter, baby was not responding well and was having heart rate issues and I ended up getting an unexplained fever so he called it. Time for the CS. I was terrified and so unprepared for this. I went into full panic attack mode, threw up a million times, the whole shebang. God bless these doctors and nurses. I was shaking horribly, so much so that as soon as I knew that the baby was out and seemingly healthy, my body just gave out. It could not stay awake and I slept on the delivery table from that point until they were moving me on to the bed to take us to recovery. A twilight zone experience for real.
I haven't had a chance to get any good pictures of him because of all the happenings. He has to get some extra tests due to my fever during labor as they want to rule out infection. Nurses in and out checking him and I but I'll add a picture to the announcement thread later. I'm also too tired to check this for errors right now so forgive me I advance!
