I don't think summer camps for kids are necessary. They are really big in my area, so I'm in the minority. while I'm sure my son would have fun, I'd rather spend that $250-400 on something for the family to do together instead of one week of day camp.

I've always assumed they were for the parents more than the kids - to get them out of the house for a while or fill in a child care gap.
My UO is that I love when people attack me online when I was trying to diffuse a situation on their behalf.... oh wait, I feel the opposite, and it's a popular opinion: I don't like being accused of being an a*hole when I was trying to actually be nice.

I hate when people don't respect the buffer in the bathroom. My office bathroom has 7 stalls. If I am in one and all the rest are open, WHY are you sitting down in the one right next to me??? Do you want to hold hands too?

I agree and feel the same way at the gym. If i'm on the treadmill and there are several other treadmills why come on the one right next to me. There needs to be atleast one empty space in between when it's completely empty. I feel like that's an unwritten rule.

Some people need to get extra motivation from sneaking a peek at your display and secretly making it a competition. I hate those people too.

Childcare for working parents. My kids are school aged, so during the school year, I only pay for 20 hours of childcare/week. I'd need about 50 to cover when they're not in school, and couldn't find a temp nanny anyway.
Since I'll be home on mat leave this summer, NO SUMMER CAMP!!! I'm so excited to not have to be organizing & paying for camp & activities all summer. I might have another baby just for this reason.

This makes me so sad! I work in the camp industry (eventually my dream job is to open my own camp). I know camp isn't "necessary" and yes, it can be expensive, but the experiences and friendships they get there can last a lifetime.

Oh I'll be home too but my son would be super mad if I didn't put him in camps for at least a few weeks. He is crazy active and loves camp!

I don't think camps are bad, and I know some of them are fun, but I just think it's strange the looks I get when I tell people my almost 5 year old won't be going to a camp with summer. He doesn't start kindergarten till September, he doesn't have to be away from home all summer too! It's not like we'll be sitting alone in the house. I just think it's strange that it's "expected" now
