Faborite Table food

We tend to eat a lot of foods my boys cant eat/dont feel comfortable giving right now(mexican style hot dogs wrapped in bacon with nacho cheese & beans, enchiladas, foods that contain chili etc.)

Tonight im making chicken alfredo with fettuccine pasta & im debating giving them some.

They've had mashed potatos, pinto beans, mexican rice, steamed rice, fideo(mexican soup) & macaroni salad. But I want to give them more/ different foods & i need some ideas.

So i was wondering, what is your LOs favorite table foods?

TIA!

Re: Faborite Table food

  • He loves everything. He ate half of my chicken and avocado enchilada yesterday and would have eaten more if I had more!
  • Loading the player...
  • Ive never heard of avocado enchilada. How do you make it? Do you make the avocado a pureed form & smother it? Ive only had red, & green enchiladas. Do you only give him the chicken shredded?
  • LO is into zucchini cakes. I make them with garlic and onion. Shredded chicken, baked squash, black beans, apple sauce, and greek yogurt are among his favorites.
  • The only things he actually goes back for more than one bite of are fruits, otherwise, not interested. I'm making a chicken and mushroom pasta tonight though, which is more interesting than a lot of the stuff I try with him so maybe I'll give it a go and see if he 'bites'
  • @KristiSigma ill have to try making them succini cakes.  The boys also like eating the squash & sweetpotato purees mixed with mashed potatos.

@booksandcleverness81 hopefully he will! Imma try giving my boys pasta tonight after all. Let me know how it goes!
  • Honestly I give my kid just about anything.. when I eat burgers he ends up eating my tomato and pickles and usually some broken off pieces of hamburger meat.. I know that's probably strange but we just try stuff and if he likes it *shrugs* he likes it, we give it to him.

Her favorite is steak for sure. She'll attack the strip I give her and it's hilarious. She also loves baked beans, black beans, black olives,  spaghetti and garlic bread. If you want to expose to flavors, I would dip a piece of toast in what I'm eating and see if she'll like it or if it's too spicy. The bread helped to temper the spice a bit. I only had to scale back once, when I used a large amount of chili powder on a roast. She eats chorizo and taco meat too. I liked taco night, because she could eat each ingredient separately and it was fun to watch her go back and forth.
  • It was shredded chicken with chunks of avocado. So good oh and green chilies.
  • @shelbydd we do the same thing!!! She gets purées still, but since we generally feed her before we eat, she gets mad if we eat in front of her and she doesn't get any! It's ridiculous lol. So she usually gets 2-3 oz of puree for dinner then a couple tbsps of finger food. She loves avocados, peaches, and puffs and I found a recipe for a banana French toast (no egg or milk) made with formula or BM for babies and made it this weekend. LO went nuts for it and ate everything we gave her. She is a great eater and as long as she can handle it, we let her try most everything.

I found a recipe for pancakes made with the rice cereal, i want to try it
  • @shelbydd i give them some  bits & pieces of my food sometimes they want more. But most of the time they just prefer their pureed foods.

@cmlsu imma try dipping bread into the foods. I didnt hink of that!

  • All of the food you mentioned sounds so good right now! (as I'm sitting here at work hungry)
I thought about giving LO fideo soup. How do your boys like it?
  • I'm so jealous of you guys being able to give your babies so many different foods! My LO has severe food allergies and I'm literally terrified to try new things. Everytime we try something new and seemingly innocent (organic beets, barley, rice num nums, etc), his face blows up and he gets hives from head to toe. I'm hoping for the day he can take a bite of my burger!
  • Everything. Literally everything. She eats pretty much whatever we're eating and we have not came across something she does not like. Seriously. Kid is a garbage disposal.
  • @rosalbap2 lol ikr! They like it. Ive noticed Adriel can move foods like fideo & rice around his mouth better than Alan so he eats more of it. I cut it into small pieces and put more of the juice(caldo) than the actual fideo just so they can swallow it easier. Try it & let me know how it goes!

@Bellarose212 i do remember having read some post & comments youve made about your LO being allergic to a lot of foods. Poor baby! & i bet hes @ that age where he wants what he sees other people eat huh? He'll get there! & hopefully the docs can help him in some way!

@kkerner87 lol thats funny a "garbage disposal". The good thing is you dont have a picky eater. Mine see food & stick it in their mouth right away but if they dont know how to eat they spit it out. & Ive noticed that my son Adriel doesnt like the food touching his hands, like foods with slimy texture so if he feels the food slimy like bananas & pasta he'll stop eating it.
  • Pasta went okay, but tonight I made roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and he really liked it! Made a total mess, but it was nice to see him seem like he actually wanted to be eating something
  • @shelbydd we do the same thing!!! She gets purées still, but since we generally feed her before we eat, she gets mad if we eat in front of her and she doesn't get any! It's ridiculous lol

my daughter is the same way! If we are eating she wants too be eating!
  • @bookscleverness81 i gave them the pasta plain & then with the alfredo sauce & they liked the sauce. they preferred the shredded chicken though & i gave the boys mashed potatos last week & theres was food all over my floor  what did he like more?
  • We also feed LO everything we eat. I substitute maple syrup for honey, and scale back the salt, but we all eat the same. She eats chili, tzatziki sauce, falafel, bbq pulled pork, blackened chicken... all with mild-medium kick. I really overdid the garlic in my last batch of tzatziki, but she still licked it off of everything.

Steak? Chicken? What?!? lol. I am terrified to give LO stuff like that. The only table foods he's tried are mashed potatoes and puréed fruits/veggies. He's very interested in the food we eat but I've been very hesitant to let him try most table foods.
  • I am WAY behind. So far he has tried a little pasta with sauce but I am afraid to give him chicken and stuff, it's the whole choking thing. Looks like I need to get over it!

  • @ForeverEverAfter that's good!

@adtaylor2015 that's how i am sometimes( never was scared with DD) but if they dont like it or don't know how to chew/swallow it they just spit out with their tongue. They did a good job with the shredded chicken & i was worried about giving it to them. & my boys mainly still eat pureed foods But if i make food they can eat i give them some.

@amp61470 don't feel behind! Do it when he's ready. Start small. I started with the puff snacks & then with the gerber cheeto snacks. Since they were small they learned how to move the puff around with their tongue, how to bite/chew on the cheetos & how to hold & get the food in their mouths. But yes we as mothers have to give them a chance to eat table foods. Mine did better than i had anticipated. Maybe your LO will do great also
  • /vibarra27 he eats the puffs and Cheetos he doesn't has interest in the Gerber little bits but wants the spoon! He had a little PB + J the other day and loved it ( I had discussed the PB issue with his dr. ). I get confused on how much to give him and what he can handle but chicken tenders tonight I guess.

  • Is my LO the only one who seems to hate any kind of texture?! :(  We started with puree's and he is great with puffs (LOVES Them) and he will also each chunks of avocado and banana. However, last night we tried doing a little pastina with some zucchini mixed in and he lost it.. flipped out each time I tried to give him some after the initial spoonful (on which he gagged and spit out)--- do I have a Diva man? maybe ha  I am trying to think of some new table food because I know he is very determined and likes to feed himself but I cant seem to find a table food he likes more than puffs! :( so I feel defeated each night at dinner... so I am going to continue to follow this thread in hopes there is something that pops up he may take to.

  • @amp61470 i say just give him as much as he'll take. I stop giving them food when they turn their head or push my hand out of their face so i wont try to give them any more.

@ABombard12 hes not the only one! One of mine will eat the foods i give but wont touch it with his hand. Like i mentioned above, so far banana & pasta he'll eat if i feed it to him, but if he touches/grabs it he drops it & then doesnt want it anymore. Maybe try it again another day. It took one of my boys 3 tries to like & be able to eat the mexican soup & 6 tries for my other son. I did mashed potatos mixed with their squash puree & they loved it. Why dont you try that?
  • @vibarra27 yeah my next dinner may be mashed potatoes with some veggie puree. keeps the texture down a bit. I have also seen those frozen sweet potato squares and they have little carrots in cubes, etc. I was thinking maybe trying some of those for him to play with/feed himself with at some point. I think I get so discouraged like I am doing something wrong from other posts/friends that show me their LO's dinners and its like "meatballs, greenbeans, blueberries and puffs" or like waffles for breakfast.. when my LO barely eats anything for dinner and if he does is one puree or a mixture of two and not much at all. Breakfast? not even a chance.. right now all he keeps wanting is to be nursed then will barely touch the foods..sometimes he wont even eat all his lunch at daycare (usually a pureed fruit). .. :( sorry I know this thread was not supposed to be a vent place about food ha

So please keep the table food ideas coming :)

  • @ABombard12 yeah try that. & no worries! I know what you mean. Sometimes i wish my boys would eat more table food but they're just not ready for a lot & definitely not all the time. They have breakfast lunch & dinner purees
  • Well I bought some Belle Farms chicken nuggets and gave him some for lunch he ate them but made some strange faces. Getting used to chewing I guess.

  • @ABombard12 our son sounds pretty similar!  He eats the purees (all fruits & veggies) mixed with formula and oatmeal cereal no problem at all.  He LOVES the little Gerber puffs, he's had the sweet potato and banana ones so far.  I have tried chunks of banana and avocado and he does not like it, he always ends up gagging and upset.  His 9 month appointment isn't too far off, and his pediatrician said we'll discuss good starters and different finger foods.
  • @imbrandt Our 9 month appointment is coming up as well.. I'll definitely be asking her what we can do as well.  Good to know he is normal.. he eats his lunch at daycare and keeps refusing the dinner with me and I was beginning to think I was doing something wrong :(  -- motherhood always doubting decisions...
  • @amp61470 yes! Hes trying to figure out wth his mom just gave him lol.

This is us too. I am to scared to try any thing processed, non organic, non homemade. He gets local organic chicken, beef and turkey and veggies and some fruits. No grains, puffs, cereal. Very boring over here. I hope that he doesnt end up one of those kids that won't eat shit because I was too protective and paranoid!

There isn't much that our little guy doesn't like. In fact, there's only been one thing that he didn't like and that was a piece of a Mellow Mushroom meatball.

His favorites seem to be pickles, chunks of potatoes, crispy baked sugar snap peas (I don't remember the brand), plain greek yogurt, and bananas. And anything bread, he's like his mama that way. LOL

@raspell imma have to try the baked sugar snap peas.
  • My lo loves loves (homemade) yogurt, with maple syrup and I usually crush up some sort of cookie in there. Lately it's been the gerber arrowroot cookie. Or I'll just do yogurt and maple syrup. Or just yogurt!
  • @ItsmeR30 that sounds good!
