ectopic - anyone with a similar experience?

Hi Ladies – my RE is predicting an ectopic pregnancy for me and wanted to see who else has experienced this and if it was similar to what I’m experiencing. Here’s some background:

FET 4/26 (5-day blast)

5/10 beta (2 weeks after FET) = 304

5/12 beta = 592

5/16 beta = 1336 – this was 4 days after my last, so should have been at lease 1600.

5/18 was brought in for u/s. They did not see a gestational sac. Beta came back around 2200.... So it still didn't double - that combined with the ultrasound today makes my RE believe it's ectopic. She did say that because I’m not yet 6 weeks it’s a possibility they just couldn’t see it yet. I am going back in on Friday.

I had 3 incidents of some bleeding (not significant, but more than spotting), but I am also on progesterone suppositions. No significant cramping or other symptoms.

They are saying that if they don’t see the sac on Friday, it is most likely ectopic and suggest I take the methotrexate on Friday. I feel like this is still early and talked to her about waiting to monday. It's one thing if they definitely see it in the tube, but another if they don't see it at all. But I do know it can be dangerous for me. I'm just hoping that we see it someplace on Friday.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Personally I would talk to the RE about waiting a little longer especially since your betas are rising (I didn't think ectopics rose that high) but obviously she is a doctor and I'm not.

I don't have an experience that mirrors yours, but I had a suspected ectopic about 18 months ago. My beta levels were very low, it started at about 55 and didn't rise any higher than about 80 over the course of about a week. I was given metho with no ultrasound even recommended because the levels were so low. It is a hard thing to go through, especially looking back and wishing that I had waited just a bit longer, just in case. If you should be near the 6 week mark at your next ultrasound and there is again nothing, then it is probably ectopic. I hope that you get good news though, but know that you are not alone if you don't.

So sorry. I really hope it's just too early. I would also want to see proof that's it's ectopic before taking the pill. Hang in there and big hugs to you.

I had a suspected ectopic from an IUI but my levels only got up to about 170. My RE waited until I would have been just over 6 weeks to see if anything could be seen in the uterus and even when it couldn't and an ectopic was still suspected, she let me go another week to see if my HCG would start decreasing on it's own before taking metho. She was very clear that if I felt ANY discomfort, pain, etc. I was to go in right away. I'm glad she let me wait bc my levels went down on their own and I didn't need the meds.

As much as it sucks and I hate to say it, FX that your levels go down on Friday. I know I was relieved when my numbers started going down and it was such a conflicting feeling since all we want are the numbers to go UP usually.

Hi Ladies – I ended up in the ER yesterday with some bad back pain. They were able to definitively confirm ectopic (it was in my right tube). We are devastated, but trying to focus on next steps. We have 2 more frozen embryos, so hopefully will have better luck next time. Thanks for all your support!
