Listeria Outbreak PSA

hey ladies,

i just read about a listeria outbreak in frozen chicken fried rice. I don't have the link handy so if someone wants to post, I'm grateful!

Re: Listeria Outbreak PSA

  • I just saw that it started a week ago so I apologize if this was already brought up. I saw it on FB and came right here! If you haven't read about it, then I hope it helps someone!

There's been quite a bit of recalls lately with frozen stuff. I had several bags of frozen veggies from Fry's that had to go back.

I saw something today about Quaker Oats recalling some granola bars due to possible listeria contamination, too.

I don't think I've seen so many listeria-related recalls so close together before! (Then again, maybe that's because I didn't have a particular reason to pay attention before now.)  But seriously, I'd really like it if all these listeria recalls stopped popping up in the news :/

  • Keep in mind that cooking food kills listeria. Unless you're planning on munching on frozen blocks of food, you're safe.

  • @juliehollz13 I just heard today Costo/Trader Joe's is recalling millions of bags of frozen fruit/veggies. Basically anyone who shops there and has smoothies for breakfast is at risk :S

@PrettyPalomino I read that and I shop at Trader Joe's - the only thing that worries me is the fruit. Also, keep in mind a lot of the recalled foods had the "use by" date of April, so most of that would have been expired. Trader Joes also has all the recalled foods listed on their website along with the code #'s and expiration dates of the affected foods. It's not ALL frozen foods, just that particular batch.
