Running moms...when are you taking baby?

Hey everyone! I recently started running again a few weeks ago, but haven't taken my son yet (2 months today!) due to concerns about head control. I've heard conflicting info; some articles I've read have said to wait until at least 6 months, but that seems a little extreme to me. I have the BOB revolution with the infant seat adapter, so he is literally in his car seat when we go on walks. We have a smoothly paved running/biking path near my house and can't imagine that jogging would be too much bumpier than walking given our stroller setup. I plan to ask my pediatrician at our 2 month checkup this week, but just curious to hear from other people!

  • I've also heard six months, and would probably stick to that except for the situation you're describing - in the car seat with an adaptor on a smooth running/biking path. That seems like you could safely do before then. I'm not a big runner, but I do have a boppy noggin nest for the stroller for walks to help support his head and keep it from going to far to the side, maybe something like that might help too?

  • I've ran on a paved trail with Evie in her carseat in the stroller.  The first time we were just walking and I was like, let me just try jogging for a minute and see how it goes.  I've gone up to 4-4.5 miles with her in it.  It never phased her in the least and she wasn't being jostled around at all.  Way less bumpy than some roads we drive on.  I am pretty sure the recommendation is 6 months but I'd use your best judgement.

  • I have the same set up and I jog with my DD in it. I wouldn't take her on a bumpy trail but I'm not running fast enough for it to be considered running yet anyways.
  • Thanks for the responses, everyone! I talked to my pediatrician about it today and he said as long as baby's in his car seat in the jogging stroller, it's perfectly fine to run with him now! Yay!

6 months plus on a smooth path due to bouncing/head movement is most widely recommended.  Good luck!
