Inconclusive Panorama DNA test results!

GAH! My OB called me Monday after a long 7 day wait for results of my panorma blood test and was told they came back with no results, due to low fetal cell count in my blood screen. Went back yesterday and did a redraw, and now I'm hoping this one takes.

God forbid I wanna know this kid is okay!

Plus everyone and their grandpappy wants to know what I'm having. I so hope I don't have to wait till 20w for an US to find out. I'm 12w3d today. Anyone else go through this?

Re: Inconclusive Panorama DNA test results!

  • Hi there! Has your OB offered to do another ultrasound? I would probably insist on one to see what's going on in there.

  • It can mean nothing or it can mean genetic abnormality. Sometimes the blood draw was too early, or they didn't take enough (especially if you are overweight).

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but we had a member on the BMB that had low fetal fraction at both of her blood draws. An ultrasound during her CVS showed a small placenta and a fetus with an abnormally large head - the baby had triploidy.

As @nauticallife said, I would request an ultrasound while you wait for the redraw results.

  • No advice, but thoughts and prayers that everything is ok! I just went through the waiting period for an abnormal US. It's so hard. Try not to worry & be patient!

  • Thinking of you! I hope you don't have to wait long for answers.
  • Having to wait on test results sucks.  We had to have my DH tested twice because the first result was inconclusive.  It could be inconclusive for a number of reason other ladies have mentioned or something as simple as the lab screwed up the sample.

FX that you get good news soon.

  • Thanks everyone. I'm just hoping it was just done too early. No defects, everything will be okay, God willing.
  • Thinking of you. I hope answers come back fast.
  • lurk from o16. I had this happen TWICE. I'm now 18w with a perfect baby girl no issues had nt scan and the bloodwork for that also :) the panorama website even says it happens sometimes :) good luck!

It happened to me twice with Harmony because I am heavyset. Frustrating, but Mat21 ended up working for me. They also say that with some folks, it just takes longer for the baby's DNA to be picked up in mama's sample. I hope you get results this time and that they are normal.
  • I took had to get redrawn.  The reason for no results was unspecified...usually they say clotting, insufficient blood or low fetal cell count but mine had no reason.  I know they had to rerun the batch mine was in (I called the lab myself since results were taking so long) so my guess is the lab f'd up and ran out of blood or it ended up clotting.

Anyway thankfully the redraw worked and my results were normal.  I pray yours are too.

I am the poster that @comealongponds mentioned. Though I did have low fetal fraction in 2 draws, I also had some other really bad signs that things were not okay with my pregnancy like a 3% HCG rise in 48 hours at 6 weeks. I did want to reassure you that according to the study I read, only 23% of women who have had low fetal fraction on 2 draws have been identified as carrying babies with chromosomal abnormalities. The chances that everything is ok is much better than the chances that things aren't ok. If the 2nd draw is also inconclusive, I would definitely follow up with a genetic counselor, get a level II  ultrasound, and consider a CVS or Amnio if you need reassurance.
