Hair Regrowth

Please tell me I'm not alone in this.

I am just over 8 months postpartum and I lost A LOT of hair a few months after our son was born...maybe around 3 or 4 months?  Well now it has all started to grow back in, and it looks RIDICULOUS.  No joke, I feel like I look like Kramer from Seinfeld!  My hair loss did a perfect circle framing my face, AND under my neck.  I have wavy/thick hair to begin with, and the regrowth is super coarse!  It's about an inch long now and stands straight out!  Too short to try and smooth with a hair straightener, so it's out in all it's glory.  I got my hair cut in a blunt long bob hoping that would help...but I think bangs may need to happen...soon!!

Anyone else?

I lost all of my hair at my temples giving me the receding hairline look of a middle aged man. Or as I liked to call it, the batman symbol.

It began to grow back about two months ago when I started taking a multivitamin and stopped talking to my in-laws (so I'm not sure if it was totally baby-related or stress too.) It now stands about two inches long and stands straight up in little puffy wisp balls that some people like to comment on. But I could care less because hey, I have hair again! And I know it'll normalize after a while.

So so no real advice, but I'm with ya sister!

  • Haha Kramer. I have hair regrowth too. It is all around my forehead and temples and is about an inch, inch and a half long now. I am not taking vitamins or anything, just happened. If I keep my hair down, I can mostly get it to blend, so thankfully no Kramer look over here.
  • You are not alone. I got bangs recently for this very reason!
  • Me too.  My friend does my hair and she told me that she can always tell the women who have young children because they have all those little hairs that are growing back in!
  • Omg me too!!! I have these short little fringes on the sides of my head that look like puppy ears :frowning:

Make sure you're not iron-deficient and take iron supplements if you are ... I haven't had an issue with hair loss, but my hair refused to grow and was super thin years ago when my iron levels were super low. I started taking pre-natals back then for the iron and biotin and my hair finally started growing again and got thicker. I've been taking them ever since!
  • @jen83mn, thanks! Not sure about my current iron levels.  I have been taking pre-natals since I found out I was pregnant, and still am.  I also started taking biotin after having him.  I was hoping the combo would help speed up the growth a bit!  It's definitely growing in, but taking it's sweet time at this nice awkward stage.  I cannot get it to lay flat, even with my hair down, it pushes the other hair around it out!!

  • @ElleMF728 , the lady who does my hair said the same thing.  I've been going to her since I was like 12 years old...in a nice way she told me she's never seen anyone lose as much as I had!  Fantastic!
  • Ditto. My hair is super thin so even though all the little hairs framing my face lay flat, they get really greasy from my forehead lol. I'm in the military so I have to keep my hair up all the time which just puts them on display. The ones at the base of my neck are like giant frizz balls. So gross.
  • I lost a ton of hair, so over Christmas my hairdresser chopped it off (inverted bob). I've got 1.5" sections all over, but they really stand out at my hairline. Thankfully they blend perfectly at the bsck because it was all cut off! For the front I use DH's gel to glue them down. I don't think it has anything to do with vitamins. I took prenatals consistently til 4mo pp, and I eat a very balanced diet, my iron levels have always been in normal range-even after birth. I lost a lot of hair with both kids.

Did your hair change at all while you were pregnant? I'm so jealous that you aren't shedding like a dog. Mine always gets so nice while I'm pregnant and then falls out a few months after I give birth :(

I think I have to come to terms with the fact that I just can't have long hair.  It always looks so much healthier when it is shoulder length or shorter.
  • I have that problem as well and I hate it! I am thinking of cutting my hair into a lob again because its so much easier.

My hair didn't change much when I was pregnant; I really didn't notice any changes at all except that it got greasy faster (and still does), but that was the norm pre-pregnancy, now it's just worse.

The only reason I lose hair now is from little dude pulling it all the time ... he thinks it's there for him to hold on to, so most the time it's in a pony. But I keep mine at a few inches past shoulder-length all the time because mine definitely looks better when not super long or it just gets scraggly!
