Naming all kids with same first initial

I noticed a couple of people on the names thread have this going on in their families--how is it? Do you regret it/enjoy it? Do people make annoying comments about them matching? Is it incredibly confusing when you're fussing at your kids? Lol

Our older two start with As (not on purpose--just the names that were settled on) and have mentioned that they think any new sibling needs to have an A name too.  Since this new baby won't have the same last name as them (DHs first bio kid, I'm remarried), I think it would be nice if they all had a first initial in common. But I also don't want to be the crazy A family. (Especially if we have a 4th kid someday)

What do you all think?

We did Js, and while we do get comments occasionally, it is never rudely or anything.

And honestly, you will mix up names regardless what they start with lol. Sometimes I call the boys by my brothers name and his doesn't even start with J!

  • Yes, our girls are both N.Bs we have boy names to match.

I think having multiple kids can be confusing and chaotic regardless of the names. I have 2 sisters, our names are not even remotely similar and my mother would constantly yell out the wrong names. Even now that we're all adults, she often calls us by the wrong names. I think every time you have another baby, another part of your brain gets fried in the delivery. Names. Words. Math. It all spilled right out of my ears. At some point the kids all start yelling their names back at you anyway, so don't worry if you forget, right?

It's up to you. People might have opinions, but you know what they say about opinions. Everybody has them  ;)

  • It's NMS, but because they wont be sharing the same last name, it is a sweet way to have something in common. I know a family with 4 kids, all their names start with an M. I don't know why but they're such a great family and my first reaction was pretty much, oh all Ms? Okay, cool.

Both DH and my name have the same first initial, and so is our last name. Before DD was born, our families joked a lot about naming her something with the same initial to "keep the trend" going.

  • My sister and I are both A's and I always liked it. This sort of thing with the same first initial runs in my husbands family too so I think we are gonna go with it :)

I have all J's and no one ever comments on it. The first two J's were accidental. I had wanted one specific name for a boy since I was in 4th grade and it also starts with a J so I knew a son would be a J name too. Then we lost a little boy and I didn't think the name I had always wanted was right for him but I also knew I had hoped to still use that name one day so it seemed weird to not give that baby a J name too....soooooo....I have 3 Js here with me and 1 in heaven. And one more on the way because you can't leave out baby #5!

@nan814 I used to think that people would do matching initials on purpose--now I've realized that it's probably more like your (and my) situation.  Name the first two matching initials unintentionally and then you're stuck with it. Lol

and you know if we name our #3 matching then #4 is locked in. Haha
