Procrastination

I have finally finished the nursery I'm 34+3 but one thing I just keep talking about but haven't done yet is pack my hospital bag.  I know like the easiest thing of all but I just keep thinking I have all of this time..I was thinking a towel, wash cloths, face wipes, make up,robe, nighty, pillow, soap, phone charger..  anything different everyone else is packing? And is 34 weeks to early to pack?

Re: Procrastination

  • I'm 35w5d and my bag has been packed for weeks because I am a lunatic. Good thinking on the towel because the hospital ones are awful.

I'd add pajamas and a change of clothes for dad if he's staying.  Nursing bra if you plan on going that route. I also picked up his and hers travel toiletry kits at Target for a few bucks each. They each have soap, lotion, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner and a razor. I ended up getting travel toothbrushing kits as well because I don't want to have to grab anything when it's go time. Don't forget a going home outfit for yourself. I went with a pretty basic cotton dress so that I'll be comfortable if I end up with a c section. I've heard they don't work well with pants.

34 is not too early to pack.  Babies can come early, so it's best to be prepared.

I didn't bother with makeup or my own pillow or towel.  I know a lot of people like to have them, but I know I won't be doing my makeup and I don't want to bleed on my own stuff or do extra laundry later, so I'll make due with hospital towels and pillows.

I packed a couple soft nursing sleep bras, a robe, maternity pajama pants and two nursing-friendly maternity tanks,  clothes to wear home, comfy underwear to wear home, toiletries, a hair brush, hair ties, socks, slippers, and my own thin extra long overnight absorbancy maxi pads because I don't like the thick hospital ones.  I also threw in a pumping bra just in case because my first son was early and I had to pump right away for him.  I packed a couple changes of clothes for my husband and basic toiletries for him.  Clothes for baby to wear home and a light cotton blanket.  Change for vending machines and a few granola bars.  Two phone chargers.  Boppy nursing pillow.

  • There is a list somewhere on TB (both in a thread and also somewhere else) that has what they recommend you pack. If I was on the computer I'd look and link. I had my bag packed at 34 just because I had the time to do it. If you have a few free minutes, just start pulling things aside for the bag.

I'm 37 weeks and have just done the laundry to pack my stuff because I am a giant idiot. Last time I had my bag packed at 31 weeks and had them at 33. I don't know what my problem is this time around.
  • Yeah Guess I'll get started.. it's terrible I totally forgot about going home clothes for me and baby. A simple cotton dress is already in my closet so I may just go with that.. but what are you guys doing for baby? I was thinking something simple.. a sleeper maybe? Or are we supposed to go with cute outfits?
  • It doesn't really matter what you pack for baby to go home in. Both my boys went home in a onesie with cotton pants (footie pants for DS1 because it was chilly that day). Little miss is going home in a family dress that my SIL came home in. I would bring one outfit in NB size and one in 0-3 months just in case.

  • I've been so bad with this as well, I'm slowly starting to gather things on my nursary room chair. I also included nursing pads and snacks.
  • Still haven't packed here either almost 37 weeks 2 cm dilated and that still didn't motivate me lol. It on my to do list tomorrow

  • I just packed mine last week (at 37 weeks). I took my friend going into to labor at 38 weeks to persuade me.

I just did a sleeper with my first. Dressing a newborn in fancy things is a pain in the butt.
  • I'm approaching 37 weeks and haven't packed mine yet either... I don't know why I keep putting it off! I'm also planning to bring a simple sleeper for the baby to go home in, along with some mittens and a little hat. I think I'll pack leggings and a loose top for myself, as well as a loose maxi dress or sun dress depending on the weather. Otherwise, I'll be bringing my own towel, make-up, dry shampoo and other toiletries (in case I'm there for more than one day), a loose robe and PJs, nursing bras, camera, nipple cream, breast pads, slippers, hair elastics, chap stick, snacks and change for the vending machine :)
  • In one of my birthing classes they made a good recommendation to bring a bathing suit for H in case you get in the shower or if your hospital has a tub he can get in with you to help relax. I thought that was pretty smart. I'm 34 weeks, too, and am procrastinating on everything. I don't know why. It seems so simple, but then I get home from work and I just want to sit and not get up.

  • We just got moved into our new house...nursery is still empty other than shower gifts unpacked in the closet. Im 34.5 weeks and I just started thinking about what I/baby may need for the hospital. I've got some great lists but I can't find motivation to pack or set anything up. Yesterday I scheduled the remaining Dr. appts till I am "due" so I guess its time to get into gear!
  • I think procrastination is a great idea. I'm 37+3 and am too ready for baby to come and now I'm bored and slowly going crazy from the waiting game. I have a freezer full of meals + lactation cookies along with all the bags packed and everything super organized and clean.  I even caught up on TV/movies on Netflix...big mistake.

I think this needs to go on the brag thread lol, (no snark in that comment). I wish I had your motivation. Can you come get me ready??

I'm 38 weeks today and haven't even started packing. Because that would require doing laundry so that I have clean clothes to pack. Not really sure when I'm going to feel like doing that!
  • I feel like I can't brag about it bc my husband did most of the work. haha We had a pre-term labor scare at 29 weeks and 35 weeks which is why we are all ready....and now he will probably not come until week 42!
  • Almost 37 weeks and still winging it. I have no bag packed and minimum stuff prepared.I'm chalking it up to part procrastination, part that my hospital is 8 blocks away, and part that I'll have lots of family around and sending them out on 'important baby errands' like setting up the pack and play in our bedroom and buying/washing some onesies while I'm in the hospital is how most things will get done and people will stay busy :-)
