Heavy feeling in Vagina??? (Tmi)

Ok, 29 weeks today. I've had some Braxton hicks contractions today and then later this evening I was cooking and began to have this heavy/pressure feeling in my vagina. I do not remember this with DD. I finally felt so uncomfortable I had to sit down. Anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping it's just something that can be a symptom. Sorry- I know hearing about someone else's vagina isn't the most fun you've ever had lol. Just curious if I'm alone or if anyone else has this or has had this!

Re: Heavy feeling in Vagina??? (Tmi)

  • I get this feeling all the time and it worries me too! But I've been getting it for months now. It feels like something pushing down on my vagina and almost feels like something is going to come out. I get the feeling when I pee and sometimes when I walk or stand around. I have checked though and had the doctor check and every time I feel that it's really swollen down there. So I almost wonder if it's swelling causing that heavy sensation. I'm a FTM though so I have no idea.

  • After I did the CF walk on Saturday. I had some Braxton hicks and what felt like my crotch wanting to fall off. Today I picked up a heavy laundry basket and same horrible feeling. Are you over doing anything and then getting pain? I think that's what's wrong with me overdoing something and boy do I feel after.

  • Not really just suddenly came on today - other than having the BH. If I wake up tomorrow and still have the feeling ill call the Dr. This kind of stuff freaks me out, aside from feeling like the baby was going to fall out it is so painful!!!!
  • I had a feeling like that on friday, bUT I had been on my feet and walking a lot. It felt better after sitting down. As for the bh, I've been having them since 17 weeks, but they happen most when lifting or bending too much, or baby moving a lot or in the wrong way. But occasionally I get them just sitting or laying in bed. No need to worry unless they are happening a lot. Ask your doc what they consider too much.
  • I got this feeling once after having afternoon sex (usually we're just before bed people, so maybe it happens other times and I just didn't notice it because I fall asleep immediately after!).

I think @JournoGrl23 may be onto something and maybe this happens when the area gets a bit swollen (from sex, exercise, or just because pregnant vages are weird!)

I got this feeling after sex as well...freaked me out but I agree I think it was just swollen
  • I have had this feeling as well with this pregnancy. It usually happens After I have been sitting for an extended time and then get up. I agree with PP I think it is due to swelling in the area.

I've had this too and I keep referring to it as "pelvic pain"... but I guess that's different?

  • It happened to me really bad the last time I had sex. I forgot to mention that one. The heavy feeling lasted a couple days and it was really swollen down there.
  • Update - At Dr. Now, because my back has been hurting all morning. I'm dilated to a 1.5 and cervix is shortened but not not under 2.5. I've been put on bed rest and they've started steroid shots for our little guy. They've also put me on a blood pressure medication to help make any contractions wimpy. So! If anyone who reads this fees like something is "off" or having pains just call your Dr. to be safe.
  • Sending out thoughts and prayers to you @jacmkelley! Take it easy and keep cooking that baby!

Thank you! They also are going to put me on progesterone shots to try to help keep from having preterm labor. I'm still in shock. I almost didn't call the Dr. Today. I'm so glad I did.

@jacmkelley I'm glad you called your doctor too!  Sounds like they have it under control!

I'm a little nervous because what you're describing sounds maybe similar to what I'm feeling?  How do you know that they're BH contractions?

The pain I'm feeling is right around the pubic bone.  It happens a lot when I stand up and start walking around.  If i'm sitting at my desk and move my legs around I feel it sometimes too.  Doesn't really feel like a "contraction."  If I try doing the "tabletop" pose in Yoga and then lift one leg up, that hurts as well.  Is what you were experiencing similar to that or just when you were walking around?

Honestly, what sent me into the doctor was that I have a dull backache that never subsided this morning in combination with the pain I felt in my vagina last night. I was literally throbbing and in pain in my vagina. Now I know, I was dilating. Aside from the physical pain, I just could sense something wasn't right with my body. The Braxton hicks were just something I noticed yesterday afternoon. With DD my BH Were all of the time and it never dilated me until around 35 weeks (to a 4 within days) and I had her at 36w6d. I think you know your body and what feels off. Just call if you're worried. It never hurts. I've read a lot about the pains women get, what I thought was weird is that I couldn't stand without being in pain, not pressure but pain.
  • I'm glad you listened to your body and called your doctor! I hope everything goes well and you're still able to deliver at a later time.
  • @jacmkelley sending good thoughts your way that baby stays put. I'm glad you trusted your instincts!

@jacmkelley T&P your way! I'm glad you stuck with your instinct and called, catching it in time is so important. How far along are you now? Have they discussed a cerclage being possible?
I'm 29 weeks and 1day. I think we are past being able to do that. But I'm not sure, she was pretty thorough I believe she would have put that out there if it were an option. I'll definitely ask tomorrow when I go in for 2nd round of steroids.

Yall ll are all so sweet. I'm trying to stay positive, thankful I'm not in active labor. Kind of trying to wrap my head around having a baby this early and what that means. Anyone here know anyone or had a baby this early?
  • When I am more active and/or on my feet alot I get what I call "pressure" down there too. Doesn't hurt, just pressure down low. Getting off my feet and resting usually makes it go away.

  • @DDRRT1982 had her first at almost 26 weeks. She isn't on a ton these days but maybe she can chime in about what it's like to have an early preemie. Hopefully it won't come to that for you, but I know her son is doing great now so maybe a happy story will help you feel better.

  • @bananers it will DEFINITELY make me feel more comforted.
@lgem4 he's measuring almost 3.5 lbs. If I can keep him in here another 3 weeks that's about 5! I hate having no control.

One of the ladies just had her baby at 30 wks over in the July BMB. Her baby is in the NICU but doing good so far. Which I believe when they are born this early they stay in the NICU until close to your due date, there is a certain weight they have to reach and obviously make sure all their organs are functioning properly. Not quite sure on what the weight is but I've heard this many times (maybe 5lbs).
My cousin had a 32 week preemie and she said there's really no minimum weight, it's more about them being able to 'live' without being hooked up to machines...breathing on their own, eating, etc.  Though, they do need to be 4 lbs to go in the car seat, so that almost might play a factor.

jacmkelley I'm glad you went to the Dr and are taking action!  I was actually going to say that what you're describing sounds like the baby dropped and is pushing on your cervix.  You can't necessarily feel yourself dilating, and you actually can be dilated a bit and not be in labor.  I was 3cm around 37 weeks, had NO idea, DD was still at -3 station, so she hadn't dropped at all yet and never did.  In your case it sounds like BHs were working overtime.  Rest up and keep us posted!  FX baby continues to cook for a while longer!

@SkiChic626 Yes, now that you mention the carseat, I believe that is what the weight minimum was about. The development of the organs and overall health of the baby are what ultimately release them. However, I did know of a baby who was healthy enough to go home but had to gain more weight to do so.

I had two premies myself so I do know all about the NICU but nothing about going home. It was briefly discussed with us but we didn't make it there.
I am so sorry. I remember this now from our PGAL thread. When were your babies born?
  • @jacmkelley sending T&P your way. I hope that you little one cooks a little longer.

I just had a friend deliver her little girl at 32 weeks due to an issue with her placenta. She was released home the day after Mother's Day!

She was in the NICU for three weeks. She was breathing fine on her own but had to have a feeding tube for most of her stay. (A little over three weeks) The main factor for her to be released was how much she would eat every 2 hours. Once she was consistently feeding on a bottle without issue and gaining weight she was able to go home. She was almost 5lbs when she was released.

  • @jacmkelley good for you for calling your doctor! I hope that baby stays put for a while longer!!

  • I am so sorry to read all of this.  Like @bananers said I had my first at 25 weeks.  It was quite the roller coaster ride.  However, you are bit further along than I was and each day in utero really does make a big difference.  A 29 weeker might need some assistance respiratory wise, but the steroids will help.  Once all of that is under control you will focus on feeding and growing.  The NICU is not the most fun experience, but hopefully if your little guy comes early he has an uneventful stay.  I pray he cooks longer.  As a preemie mom and a Respiratory therapist I do not worry once I hit 34 weeks.  I pray you make at least to that.
  • @jacmkelley T&P your way... Stay put, little baby!

My SIL has an incompetent cervix; her first was born at 26+2 and the second at 32 weeks. Both had long NICU stays and I know that was rough. But they are 7 and 2 years old now, and perfectly healthy, smart, active kids with no delays or difficulties. I think the key was getting medical help as soon as she knew something was off (especially with the first) - I'm so glad you called your doctor right away!
  • @jacmkelley  oh goodness, i'm so glad you went in! please take it easy and keep that baby safe!
  • @jacmkelley so happy you went in and all seems to be going well!! Fingers crossed that baby stays put a little longer
  • I'm so happy you went in and listened to your body. That is really good advice for all of us as we enter the last few months. No one knows our bodies better than we do. Thoughts and prayers for you @jacmkelley

  • @LucyFlower. The info you were looking for is Ishio method post pregnancy recovery program. This will help alleviate the uncomfortable weighing down feeling you are getting. It also keeps your muscles strong, which will be important for delivery, and after you have your baby.
  • I was told that for many pregnant moms, that feeling is from the weight of your baby, (and organs, and fluid retention), on your nerves.
  • @jacmkelley  Oh my goodness I just saw this because I'm having really bad discomfort down low the past few days. Good job seeing medical attention, mama! I'll be thinking of you and sending good vibes that baby keeps cooking! Don't google yourself into a panic, you got this!

  • It's a good thing you went with your gut and called the doctor! My t&p are with you and FX baby cooks as long as possible!
  • @jacmkelley So glad baby is still safely cooking in there for you!  Good for you for trusting your instincts!

@lucypod The pelvic pain you're describing is the same as I have had for this pregnancy and when I was pregnant with DD.  Google SPD and pregnancy and you'll see that it is relatively common and not harmful to baby, just super uncomfortable!  It does help with vaginal deliveries though, because your pelvis is a bit looser.  My pain went away last time instantly once DD was born.
