Bath seats

how is everyone giving their babies baths now?! I still use my infant tub in the sink but I feel like she's too big for it and she keeps getting ahold of the knob and turning the water off. I've heard people talk about bath seats but I also heard they don't sell them anymore because they weren't safe? I guess there were ones with suction on the bottom so the seat would stay in place but someone else said they had a seat that had something attached to it that goes up over the side of the tub and stays in place way better than the suction ones. Just curious if anyone has one of these, where they got it, or how they are giving baths now.

Re: Bath seats

  • We had bath seats with our older three but they are not recommended anymore. We use a laundry basket lined with a non slip mat. So tacky looking but it works!

  • I just shove LO in the tub with his big brother.  We keep the water really low until he is done and out and then add a little more for DS1.  They both have fun in there :)
  • We just lay him or sit him in the big bath tub and he plays. We don't put much water in, just enough to wash. We used a bath seat with my first two and it was so in the way and awkward to get all of the baby washed.
  • I know some people put baby in the bumbo type seat for bath time. We just put DD directly in the tub with big brother. They have fun.
  • We put him in the tub with our toddler. We use a non stick bath mat that covers most of the tub.  I bought a $5 bath sponge for the baby and he lays on it while I'm bathing him then I sit him up and he plays with his brother.  I just keep the water low until I sit him up.  Don't waste your money, keep it simple.
  • I just put her in the big tub. She does just fine
  • I'm still using a mesh sling in the big tub, but she's so squirmy now, I'll be switching to just a non slip mat soon.

Omg don't do this! The Bumbo seat floats and will tip over if you have a baby sitting in it.
  • I still use my infant bath tub, it was one that grew with them. I think the brand is summer or something summer. I have her in the spot that helps them to sit up since that's what she wants to do. I would be too nervous putting her in the big tub alone (I put her infant tub in our big bath to bathe her) because she will tip over at times. I do put a wash cloth under her but so she doesn't slide around in it.

I got an inflatable tub off Amazon for like $20, LO loves it bc it fits her and has a part to go in between her legs so she can sit up and not slip back. Plus it's s huge water saver!
  • I have a fisher price tub that transitions from newborn to infant then toddler. It has a seat that he can sit in now and that eventually comes out whe he is a little more stable.

  • When I bathe her I just stick her in the big tub. She's a great sitter and we've never had any accidents so far (fingers crossed). I live on the wild side and I actually run her water up to about her belly button. I never leave her side and my hands are usually in the water playing with her so if she were to tip over, I'd grab her right up. My husband on the other hand is a little more nervous and he uses this to bathe her. We got it at target and he really likes it.

We have a baby tub/bath seat but LO is so crazy that he tries to tip it over all the time! A couple months ago I gave up on it and just let him sit in the tub. He loves it! I sit on the edge of the tub so I am there if he tries to stand up or anything else.

  • @raspell I wish our little guy would sit in the tub like that!

We have the 4Moms bathtub which he will soon be outgrowing.  Yesterday I thought I'd be brave and give him a bath in the big tub.  BIG MISTAKE.  He FREAKED out.  He wouldn't stay sitting, he was flailing all around and trying to roll over and crawl!  I probably only had about 2 inches of water at the most in the tub, but he was SO upset.  I need to look for something to maybe put within the tub to help him feel more secure.

  • My little guy used the 4 moms tub up until this past week. We are now in a bath tub it is huge and kidney shaped like a miniature pool- when my husband built this house I have no idea what he was thinking with this thing. It is a stand alone tub and it has a built in seat so I can sit on that and bathe my son. There are many problems with it but most recently its that he is getting so mobile that he dove forward for a toy into the water face first. Again we do have the water level low but I was still concerned that water may have gotten in his eyes and mouth etc. He sits in the tub and splashes like crazy its hilarious.

We have a bath tub ring (summer brand I believe) and I love it and so does my daughter. She hates sitting by herself but loves sitting in the bath ring and splashing about. The seat I have has AMAZING suction - it takes all my oomf to get it out of the tub.
  • I wish I was comfortable putting my daughter in the big tub with nothing but that's definitely a big no for me. I'm too nervous because she isn't the greatest sitter yet. She's pretty good but still wobbly sometimes. Thank you for everyone's responses!
  • A good old fashioned laundry basket works quite well too!

We bathe together. Either daddy and Jake or the other way round. I love having that skin to skin contact, watching him splash about, it's so different than when he was first born, his progression. He just loves the water. It's just lovely. Makes me still feel like he's still just a tiny man, even though he's 8 months now, and still very reliant on me or us, keeping him safe, whilst in the water. I love it.
    Precious moments to cherish. :)
