Accidents - feeling awful

my daughter turned 8 months old today and I know bumps and bruises are expected along the way, but yesterday she took quite a tumble and it was completely my fault. I was holding her hands while she was standing on her changing table and she lost her balance. I didn't catch her fast enough, so she fell sideways and hit the wall/a couple picture frames we have hanging above the changing table (thankfully not to the floor). She now has bruises on both ankles and a couple scratches on her arms. She has been completely normal and I honestly cried and have been more upset about it than her (she cried for maybe 10 seconds and then was fine), but I just cannot get over the fact that she got hurt and I was a moron and let her stand on the table. Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who has had not-so-smart moments

Re: Accidents - feeling awful

  • She hasn't fallen but I let my LO stand up after I change her every time, as they get more active they're gonna have more spills, don't worry momma! You're doing the best you can and that's all you can do...

I was trying to help my little dude kneel after pulling himself to standing on the bookcase today but didn't have a good grip on his upper body. Dude smacked his face on the side falling over :'(
  • Maybe time to stop using the changing table. Babies are just so wiggly and squirmy at this point it's hard to keep them steady. My little guy will be walking pretty soon and I anticipate there will be many bruises and scrapes to come. Just part of being a baby!
  • These things happen :( About a month ago DS2 was standing and supporting himself using the nightstand next to our bed.  His hand slipped and he fell and hit our metal bed frame.  He got a cut on his brow bone so I had to take him to urgent care to get it glued shut.  My oldest was there the month before getting his forehead glued from when he split it falling into his train table.  I absolutely hate when they get hurt, but they do and they will.  It won't be the last time I'm sure.
  • Even on the floor there will be bumps! My LO pulled up to her knees (grabbed onto a stair gate), then fell back and to the side. Her elbow hit first, so her head didn't get as big a bump, but it was still very visible!

  • LO learned to crawl two days ago and is now covered in scratches and I have no idea where he got them. We live with my in laws so I die a little inside every time my MIL asks how he got this bump or that scratch.
  • Okay my little man has fallen 4 times and gotten some good bumps. Can only imagine what will happen when he becomes even more mobile.

  • My LO keeps doing this weird downward dog pose(LOL) and then a hand slips and he hit his cheek hard on the way down to the hardwood floor. He then flopped onto his back super fast. Scared him and he has a red cheek for a while. I felt awful. He was screaming! I quickly took him outside and he quit crying because he loves the outdoors. I can't imagine when he's walking...
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had accidents. It's just especially hard on my heart since it was my fault
  • My mom was watching my daughter today while I was at work and she was playing in a diaper box and tipped it over and hit her cheek on the base of a chair
  • She now has a mark on the side of her face
  • Not sure why it keeps cutting my post off..
  • I was sitting on the floor with my lo (had my knees up) and he was standing up holding my hands. He let go to grab on to my knee and lost his balance and caught it with his mouth instead :fearful: I felt so bad, in my head I just kneed my baby in the face! He cried all of 5 seconds.
  • Ahh, mama's don't beat yourselves up! Our LO's are going to have little accidents, little bumps and falls, also we don't have eyes in the back of our heads. We can only do the best we can, which it sounds like you're all doing!
I remember my first child, Liam. He followed me up the stairs on me day (I'd stupidly left the baby gate open) he was naked, as I was getting him some fresh clothes from upstairs. He followed me up without me realising. He got to the second to last stair, attempted to turn and fell down the whole staircase!! Top to bottom!! He fell like a baby doll. Everything went into slow motion. I was mortified, cried for hours, took me days to get over, but he was fine! A little carpet burn on his back, but was laughing again within a few minutes. Our little ones are tougher than you think. :)
