Hi my son is almost 2 1/2,just got his bed today,it's a twin bed, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on transitioning him out of the crib to the bed and getting him to stay in there?thanks for any suggestions!!!
Yes, this was really difficult with my older son, so I did some research and found a great solution that really worked. I sat on a chair in his doorway with my back facing him and read a book or magazine (so I was essentially "ignorning him"). Everytime he got up, I put him back in bed. The first night was the worst, I must have moved him back to bed a dozen times, but then the realization just hit that it was a pointless effort- and of course, he cried in frustration, but quickly calmed down. After that, I'd sit in his doorway and only had to move him back once or twice. After a few days, I'd move from his doorway before he was fully asleep (but close). Then I started moving the chair further down the hall until we didn't use it at all. I still sometimes move a chair to his doorway if he's resisting going to bed by talking or singing to himself or getting up. Hope this helps - good luck!
Make sure to read lots of books with him and sit with him. Freddie really likes his bed, at least he sleeps better in it. We sort of have a special day when we put him in the bed. We all sat in the bed and layed in the bed and read books. It was really a good experience and now he is content.
