Favorite Band

So I'm really into music. Most of my years in high school and college were spent at shows/concerts. I haven't been able to go much in the last 5 years since the kiddos... but just wondering what people's favorite bands/musicians are?

A few of mine are
HIM - metal band from Finland
Death by Stereo - punk metal
The Fray
The Faint

The only music I really can't get on board with is Dave Matthews and U2.

So my DH loves HIM. I've seen them twice with him and I think he's seen them 3 times.

Ive always liked Blink 182, I also like Queen, Styx and Journey.

Current stuff I like The Band Perry.

Really?? I don't meet many people who know them! I've seen them twice. The first time I saw them, I was out in the lobby before the show started, and I turned around only to be standing 5 feet from their Singer Ville Valo. And of course my natural response was to do nothing but give this goofy smile and wave..

I'm big on queen. I have a Playlist on my phone of just their songs. My kids call them Queeny weeny. They'll learn soon enough they're a cool band!!

I actually saw HIM with Volbeat. They were great. Depeche Mode and Muse are bands my husband and I like to see together. They put on great shows.
  • Not really a band, but I love Above & Beyond. They're not for everyone, or every occasion, but listening to them (or seeing them live) always lifts my spirit!
  • Tragically Hip, The Trews, Moist, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Alice in Chains, and I could keep going...too many loves to only pick a few to be honest.

It doesn't help that hubby has a huge collection, but a lot of his is super metal stuff. But there is a lot that we both like, so my music collection grew like 5 times bigger when I let him near my computer.

I've gone on a 90's music binge late - No Doubt, The Offspring, The Cranberries.
  • I actually have like a shocking eclectic taste in music ranging from classical or choir all the way to tougher metal like Metallica along with everything in between toss some country, pop and rap in there too. All depending on my mood.

Most often though if I were asked like my favorite genre and to pick bands within that which is music I would be willing to listen to all of the time I'd choose a wide variety of older rock.

Led Zeppelin, Collective Soul, Journey, Van Halen ... Too big a list to keep going but you can see those alone that came to my mind are a pretty crazy variety (Hair Band, Poppy, Mello, to what was sometimes considered Metal of their time lol)

@mrsjlang  I notice you mentioned Disturbed which I just realllllly love (seen them in concert too!) how do you feel about that new overplayed cover they have for Sound of Silence? It's actually driving me nuts I'm not sure if it's because it's so overplayed or because it's just not what I expect from them. I actually prefer Bobaflex's cover of Sound of Silence!

  • I like so many genre's that it's hard to just pick a few. NIN, Massive Attack, Radiohead, Muse, Fingathing, QOTSA, The Mars Volta, Deftones, Zero 7, Hall and Oats, Bob Marley, Tool/APC. Deftones was absolutely incredible in concert. The whole crowd was in a trance. They are possibly even better live!
  • I listen to country. My favorites right now are Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton, and Little Big Town. Of course George Strait and Tim McGraw are always good.

My sisters are very into country. They go to country fest and all that. I listened to country a long time ago. I don't know any of them any more. I'm taking like Tracy bird, Bryan white, and Joe diffy. Woop!!! Haha I used to sing blue my Leanne rhymes to my grandmother.

    Yes!
The other day DH got off a 24 HR shift and I said "name a band that's not country" he said "I didn't know you were going to interrogate me with difficult things today"

I love Tracy Byrd and Joe Diffie are amazing. And I love classic Leanne. Her newer stuff isn't up my alley as much.

Yes! It's fun to look back at cassette tapes and such to see what I had in my country arsenal. Dwight yolkum.. Alan jackson.. good vibes.
  • @leighry I LOVE The Fray! Although I also really enjoy U2, so hopefully we can still be friends. ;)

Some of my other favorites are Coldplay, The Hush Sound, Sleeping at Last, Brooke Fraser, Anberlin, Ingrid Michaelson, Keane, Mutemath, and OK Go. Sorry I have too many favorites!!

As you can tell I'm a music lover, and while my taste may seem eclectic, the general thing that most of those bands have in common is being pretty piano heavy. I'm a pianist/keyboardist myself so I tend to favor bands with lots of keys.

I'll listen to just about anything though, with the exception of rap and country. Just can't get into either one.  :#

@elsie2014 I GUESS I can overlook the U2, seeing as how you also love Anberlin and mutemath and Keane. ;) Funnily I love piano heavy music (or I love finding acoustic versions of my favorite songs) and my husband is actually a piano technician. He has been playing since he was 7 too. So I'm sure you and he could have some good bands to talk about! The Juliana theory and straylight run also have some good piano songs. So many. Clapton and Joel are up there too, and of course the boss. I enjoy my heavy metal too though. So much. My kids call it my driving music. Truth!

Lol not as many people have heard of Anberlin! And I forgot about the Juliana Theory, I never got super into them, but I might have to give it another listen. I've never heard of Straylight, I'll have to look them up too.

  • I'm big into music too. I've been going to shows since I was a teenager. My taste is very cross genre. I generally like funk, soul, jam, jazz, rock, indie, reggae and hip hop. I listen to a ton of bands and my tops are always changing. Right now I'm liking Charles Bradley, David Axelrod, Shuggie Otis, Nina Simone, Fela Kuti, Buju Banton, Boombox, tune-yards, emiliana torini, the black keys, and here we go magic. My all time favorite forever and always though is Phish.
  • leighryleighry member
Yes @elsie2014 definitely do!! I also forgot to mention one of my best all time jams.. red hot chili peppers. @Thewizardofrhythm they seem like they would resonate with you from your list?

I haven't found a ton of female musicians I'm a fan of. But I like damone and saharah hotnights a lot.
  • @leighry Love em! Definitely one of my foundational bands and still a standard go to.
  • RaeJ004RaeJ004 member
You name it I'll listen to it. Pearl Jam, Everclear, Sugarland, Kings of Leon, Florence and the Machine, Steve Miller Band and The Band Perry are all favorites.

TBS, Brand New, The Movie Life and Newfound Glory are staples. They make me feel 17.

There are two bands I went to see a lot when I was in college. They played a lot in new Haven at local clubs. Isadora and NO warning.. they're both not together anymore but I still love them.

And Rancid. Who can forget Rancid.

Emery, from autumn to ashes, funeral for a friend, Thursday, saosin, etc take me back to high school. Still love all of them. Now days I mainly like rock such as three days grace, shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, disturbed, and the like. My all time favorite is Incubus.

Trivium was a big one for me in high school. Also lost prophets and as I lay dying ... although I believe the lead singer of the lost prophets has been accused of being a pedophile and one of the members of as I lay dying tired to hire someone to kill his wife? I mean. I still love the music, but when you hear stuff like that it taints it a bit.
  • I feel like I belong here now  :o everyone who ever asked my taste in music usually calls me a freak because of the music I listen to and tell me I shouldn't let my baby hear hateful music..., I prefer rock, metal, death metal, alternative... thats why I love SiriusXM Radio, top  5 favorites are Rise against, megadeth, pantera, slipknot, and Korn
My son's first concert was actually slipknot and Korn when I was 12 weeks pregnant with him hahaha
  • leighryleighry member
@kirstikay215 ... metal (of any kind) especially death metal is the best. My father still doesn't get how I can listen to it because he can't "Even understand them." But there is something so relaxing and soothing to me about it. Atreyu does this cover of the song Epic... and I love it and my sister heard it and goes "that guy sounds like he is going to vomit.. why is he yelling like that?" Because it's awesome. That's why. Motograter was a band I saw a ton when I was 17/18. They've since evolved, changed members and I don't listen to them much anymore but they were always a good go to. Element 80.. dream theater.
