Still breastfeeding one child and now pregnant!?

Hi!
is anyone else still nursing their first baby and pregnant? Just curious. My son is 16 months and still nursing in the morning and at night. I actually JUST cut out naptime nursing because I didn't get my period in April and I thought it was due to him nursing often in April (he was teething a lot). And my husband and I planned to try to get pregnant this summer so I knew I needed to get my period back (I had it for Jan-March). Little did I know I didn't get my period in April because I was pregnant! I didn't test until May 11th at already 6.5 weeks pregnant because I swore my period was late because of nursing! I was so wrong.
Anyways, a part of me wants to stop nursing soon but a part of me feels like once this baby comes, my son will no longer be my "baby" and so maybe I should take advantage of nursing him while I can before baby is here.
Does anyone know if there's any effects to nursing while pregnant??

  • I'm still nursing my 18 month old.

Unless your OB tells you not to nurse because of issues in your pregnancy, it is safe. Plenty of women nurse through their pregnancies and then tandem nurse both children.

Same here! Still nursing my 16 month old fella. Milking (no pun intended) every sweet moment I can until my milk dries up. It doesn't happen for everyone but your supply may dry up naturally. A lot of people report it to be gone by 20 weeks, but I've heard several say they had nothing by 12 weeks. It sounds like most toddlers may want to start up again after they see the baby nursing so that's an option to. My nipple pain is starting to subside a little which is REALLY helpful but I've already seen a dip in my supply causing him to wake up more often at night. Now sure how we'll navigate that but I want to keep going as long as I can. Good luck!
