Pink eye?

Anyone have experience with pink eye in their baby?  I noticed yesterday that the outside corners of white part of my son's eyes were looking slightly red, and the skin around his eyes looked a little red too.  Today there has been some bright green discharge from the right eye throughout the day.  The left eye looks a little better and the right eye still looks red, but not any worse than yesterday.

Honestly I thought it would look much redder if it were pink eye, so I'm not sure if it's just an allergy since he's had a runny nose too.  If you weren't looking closely you'd barely realize it was red, and it's only on the one side of his eye.  Does pink eye usually affect the whole eye or can it be just part of the eye?  I'll probably take him to the dr. tomorrow, but am debating whether it's necessary for me to miss work and keep him out of daycare in the morning if I can't get into the dr until the afternoon.

Re: Pink eye?

  • My daughter had it a few months ago. She had some discharge and her eye was a little pink and puffy. I thought it was just allergies. I was surprised when the dr said pink eye. I might try and keep her out. My husband and I both ended up with it. Luckily our 3 yr old did not.

  • @blondehairblueeyeditalianbaby Was the dr able to give you any medication to help with it or does it just have to go away on its own?  It's been so long since I've had it, I don't remember how to treat it.

We had something like this and it was an ear infection! I thought it was pink eye to because she had no other symptoms.
  • My little guys eye wasn't super red but there was a lot of greenish discharge and his eye was swollen - here's a pic, sorry if it's a little gross! They gave him antibiotic drops and it started to clear up after the first day. It's probably worth the doctor visit as it's highly contagious. If it is, make sure you wash anything his face touches regularly!

  • @lonziem Interesting, I just did a Google search and the same bacteria that causes pink eye can cause an ear infection.  I noticed my son shaking his head back and forth today and just read that can be a sign of ear infection.  I wonder now if he has both.  I'll be sure to have the doctor check his ears too!

@backatac that is exactly how my sons eye looks but not nearly as much discharge.  The discharge is pretty minimal actually but it is constant.  If I wipe it away it is back shortly after.  I just sent my boss a note to let her know I'd be working from home tomorrow. Definitely going to go to the doctor and keep him home from daycare!

  • We were given drops to use. It cleared up quickly. DD also had an ear infection. The dr said they almost always go hand in hand.
  • @Kelliek327 good luck! Also best of luck getting those damn drops into his eye!! they learn how to swat you away very quickly!!
