Re: Weekend Randoms 5/14

  • Sleep is so elusive to me right now. I'm tired at night and typically fall asleep on the couch at like 8:45. But in the morning I'm up at like 5:45, whether I have to go to work or not!

Isn't that the point of kid free... You sleep in?!?

we are going to go buy a new vehicle today. My husband thinks we are getting an SUV. I have wanted a minivan ever since my neighbor let me drive her dreamy Toyota Sienna deluxe fancy van. I'm getting a damn van today ladies if it's the last thing I do :D
We are currently driving a mini van while our CRV is in for the airbag recall. I have to say, it is pretty awesome! I'm not liking the gas mileage and bigger gas tank though.

  • It wouldn't let me reply to both, @ashbozso and @RocksInTheWater ... So I have been researching cars since DH and I want to start working on number 2, a regular car won't do. The best millage wise van Is actually coming soon, I think Aug or Sept the last article I read. Its the 2017 chrysler Pacifica hybrid plug in. It truly is a hybrid. You could run it all electric 100 miles depending on speed ac etc, or you can run it combined amd get 80mpg..... And some of the upgrades arn't to Shabby either. They have the regular model on the site. It's taking over for the town and country. Sorry if it is not the plave for this...
  • @robin.masciave That's good to hear!

We went and looked at new vehicles yesterday. I currently have a Jeep Wrangler and that's probably not the best vehicle for baby! Lol! I've narrowed down to a Buick Enclave or a Jeep Grand Cherokee.... Sad to get rid of my jeep but hubby is getting it so it will still be in the family haha!
  • @ceclarlinetlo oooooh that is so exciting. As a fellow medicine widow, I extend my congratulations to your husband for all his hard work, and also to you, because I know all the work and support that you have put in to help him get through the last four years.

I completely teared up when they recited the Hippocratic Oath, and I didn't have pregnancy hormones to contend with, so good luck getting through that in one piece ;)

What residency is your husband starting? Are you guys looking at another 2 years or 6?
  • @poetryandoceans - thank you so much! DH chose to go into full scope family medicine so he will be trained to deliver babies as well as doing pediatrics, adult and geriatric medicine. His long term goal is to have a rural family practice for the underserved. He taught high school through Teach for America before medical school and through that was introduced to the culture of generational poverty - it really opened his eyes to systemic oppression and gave him a heart for impoverished and marginalized populations. We have 3 years for residency and then he will participate in the National Health Services Corp for 3 years (they offer loan repayment in exchange for practing in areas with doctor shortages) so a total of 6 before he will get to start his practice.

  • @ceclarlinetlo My husband's scope of practice is extremely similar! He's 2 years out of his residency at this point and has really been enjoying forming his own approach to practice. He hopes to eventually open his own clinic but is really enjoying serving as a locum for rural docs right now; he goes in and gives them a break, so they don't burn out, and he gets the experience of practicing in a lot of different communities :)

Good luck over the next few months, and if you want to talk about the demands of supporting a spouse through a residency, please PM me any time! Enjoy this weekend and both of you bask in the glow of your accomplishments and this next stage of your life. :)
  • On the topic of new vehicles we talked about it because right now we both own sedans. He has a benz and i have a subaru legacy. You NEED all wheel drive cars where we live due to snow and hills. Everyone we know has Atleast one all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, which I've learned are infact different. Luckily both of ours are all wheel drive so they have served us well. We have no car payments right now and we are loving it. Maybe with child #2 we will look at a new car but right now we are hoping our sedans will get us by. We do have a roof rack and cargo carrier for the top of my vehicle if we need extra luggage space. Anyone else have a kid and no suv or minivan? How has that been?

@KarliQ88 We have a sedan and I have has no issues. We are not planning on getting a new car with baby number 2. But with just one the sedan has been just fine. The only time we rub out of space is when we go camping. But with the roof rack you should be fine.
  • Thanks @j32444. I too think it will be just fine!

    Hi ladies!

I'm hoping you can help me feel better. For I've felt pressure above my right hip since Friday. It doesn't hurt, it hasn't moved and I've had no spotting. It hasn't impacted my sleep or day to day. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

My big issue is I live in London but I'm currently visiting my parents in America,  where I have travel insurance for medical emergencies but no normal health insurance. I was so freaked out yesterday (about an ectopic) that my mom had me talk to her gyno who said it was "almost probably" nothing but to see someone if I start bleeding or get pain (I've had neither).  So far, it's still the same. I fly back to London on Friday so ill obviously see a doctor if anything changes this week.

Sorry for the ramble, this is my first pregnancy and I'm just over five weeks. I just want to know that this is a normal pregnancy thing!

  • I'm sorry, I don't have any experience with that  hopefully it's nothing to be concerned with! I would check in with your doc when you get home if it hasn't gone away by Friday.

  • @hayhay87 Twinges and pains can be scary.  I've had some this weekend as well.  I have no experience with ectopic pregnancies but I would guess that you would feel pain that would get worse and you would have other symptoms too.  It's good you have no pain or bleeding.  FX for you that the pressure clears up!

We just got hubs a new vehicle 2 weeks ago. He went from a Chevy Colorado to a Chevy Equinox. His truck pretty much took a poop and he needed something. He was sad to see it go but I think it is growing on him.

  • @hayhay87 i can't say I've had any experience with this either. This is my first pregnancy. Obviously go in if pain is worse or you start bleeding. It doesn't sound like much but I'm not a doctor.

Update everyone- because I'm a crazy first time pregnant lady I paid $600 to go to the doctor to tell me I'm fine. Baby is 95.5% in the right spot, though it's very early (5.5 weeks). And weirdly I have a cyst on the other side! He said to come back in if the pain grows, but hopefully everything stays as is or goes away and I can save it for when I'm back to free health care!

Also he said all going well I'll be able to hear a heartbeat in less than 10 days

Sorry you had to pay so much but that is really good news! Cysts during pregnancy are apparently super common (they usually resolve themselves) so try not to worry too much about it in the meantime.
  • Thanks @mommywesley and @canavara :) To be honest, the money was worth it for me to not be worrying all week. Fingers crossed travel insurance pays for it!  Still getting used to the new feelings in my body I guess
