I gave Ollie is first bottle of pumped milk when he was 3 and a half weeks old. I pumped with a manual pump for about 10 minutes (about the same amount of time he would normally eat) and got 5 ounces. So I gave him that and he drank it all....I'm thinking it's a lot but it was around the time of his last feed so he usually eats more I think, before doing a long stretch of sleep. I think some of his meals are smaller for sure...like 2-3 ounces.
Depends on how often your LO eats. The average is between 1.5-3 I believe. We have been bottle feeding pumped milk since week 1 and it always changes. The more frequent he feeds the fewer the oz each time. LO is going to be a month soon and averaging 4 oz but I think that's due to a growth spurt.
I was always told 2oz every 2-3 hours. We still only give LO that at 5 weeks except it's usually 3oz if we do the 3 hour stretch. A few times she would cry for more but we try to soothe her in other ways first before giving her more.
Peds don't always know breastfeeding info..... unlike formula it doesn't matter the age... It 1 ounce per 1 hr... this is the perfect ratio for bf babies
I would start with 2 and see how that goes. My LO never really bottle feeds more than that in a sitting. And it sucks having to toss it, so I feed a little and get more if needed.
My LO is about 6 weeks has 3 oz every 3 hours. DH gives her a bottle a day. sometimes if it's not enough she lets is know and I nurse her for a few min after until she pulls away. I'd say those times she gets maybe 3 1/2 .
Re: Bottled breast milk..3 week old how much to give?
So if you're 3 weeks but feeding every 1-2 hours, you can be a little under 3 oz. If you're around 3-4 hours between feedings, you can go to 4-5.
