Question for EPers

For you ladies who EP, or anyone who does often, how are your nipples not about to fall off? I breastfeed my daughter and also pump. Lately, I have been pumping A lot more to build my stash because it was almost out. I have bought bigger, is it flange?(what pulls your nipple in), I think I bought the biggest size, or the one right underneath that. I've watched videos and I'm pretty sure I have the right size. My nipples are just so sore now, any helpful hints or tips? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong?!? I don't think I am, but any input would be great!

thanks!

Re: Question for EPers

  • I exclusively pumped for 7 months and the first 2 were so bad because of exactly this issue. Buy pumpin pals, they are a different shape and made all the difference for me. On the Epumping boards they are the standard. The starter pack comes with three sizes, get all three because you might need different sizes at different times of day. Also, make sure your not turning up the suction too high,I found longer pumps at lower suction were much kinder to my nipples. Check the membranes on your pump too, make sure they are flat against the valve and not torn at all. Good luck!

  • I EP and I'm pretty sure my nips have just lost their sensitivity at this point, lol. DS is 9 mos on the 26th. I have a hospital grade pump at home that we rent and then use my Medela PISA to work. I pump 5-6 times a day. I did have a cracked bloody nip when I started using the symphony pump about a month ago and just used lanolin and didn't use as much suction til that healed. Pumping sucks!! Good luck mama!
  • Thanks ladies!
  • I had too big a flange at first and the pain was unbearable. My nipples started getting white. There are ep groups on fb that if you take a picture of your nip in the flange and tag an administrator they can tell if the flange is correct size
  • Try a lower speed setting. I pumped for 7 months and had to play a bit with the settings till I found one that was consistently comfortable
