With DD I had a c section after hours and hours of labor. I'm wondering if there are any moms on here who have had a scheduled c section after having an "emergency" c section. What are the differences between the two/what should I expect?
I had an emergency C-section with DD and now I'm stuck in between trying for a VBAC or just scheduling the C-Section. I already did it once, so I know what to expect on that front, and if I go through labor to need another C-section again, I'm going to be miserable. I would also appreciate anyone's advice/anecdotes on the subject.
I had an emergency caesarian section after overnight back labour at the hospital. That was more than 10 years ago, so I thought I could try for a vbac. My hospital, however, is keen on getting the baby born before 40 weeks for mothers of Advanced Maternal Age, and induction for me would increase the risk of uterine rupture. I am on a strong immunosuppressant for an autoimmune condition so need to be careful as well. My obstetrician is going to be away my 39th week, so I'm having a scheduled c-section 11 days before my due date.
I had an emergency c with my first it was beyond tramatic afterwards I didn't see my son for 6 hours and recovery all around was tough. My scheduled c 20 months later was amazing no stress no fuss. The only thing I preferred was the first time I got an epidural and for the 2nd a spinal I was not a fan of the spinal. For the scheduled c I was able to request family friendly so the baby stayed with us we had immediate skin to skin contact and he stayed with me in recovery and I was able to breastfeed. In all honesty it was great and recovery was significantly shorter pain was a lot less. I'm pretty confident that for this 3rd baby my scheduled c will be just as amazing.
I have had 1 emergency c section with my second son which I felt the recovery was rough and I ended up planning for my daughter to be scheduled c section, the recovery was much smoother
I had a c-section with our first because I failed to dilate past 4 cm after my water broke (38wks). My water broke (or part of it) on Sunday morning and I didn't have my c/section until 8pm Monday evening. I was exhausted and don't remember much. I was so out of it... I was in the "recovery" room by myself a lot longer too before being reunited with DH and LO. My 2nd child was scheduled c/section at 39wks. It was an odd feeling just waking up in the morning like "We're having a baby today!". But it was super great. We were relaxed and I remember the whole thing! I felt like I got the whole day to spend with my newborn, without feeling zonked out. The only odd thing was laying in the OR while the nurses get everything set up... before DH was able to come in. My recovery went really well!
I have recently talked to a family member who had an emergency c/section with her first and was very nervous about having another c/section (she wanted a vbac, but never went in to labor with #2). She said the planned c/section went so much better than her first c/section.
my first was a c/s after 24 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing. I was so exhausted and the recovery was really hard. #2 was scheduled at 38 weeks but I started labor the day before so they just took him out then. The recovery was much faster, minus the extra recovery time I needed because the first spinal didn't take, so they had to do a second while I was on the OR table, and it caused too much spinal fluid to leak which resulted in a spinal headache... so I was so drugged up from the headache that my first week was sort of a haze. drugs were great though... could not feel the c/s wound, or even my lips! but could still feel that headache!
