Pregnancy Diet Staples

Do you have one or two foods that form the core of your pregnancy diet? In my normal life I eat a decent variety of foods, but this pregnancy I'm all about buttered toast. If I can't stomach whatever DH and the kids are eating for dinner, I'll make toast. I have it for breakfast nearly every morning. If I'm starving and need a snack, it's the first thing I turn to. With DS, I ate tons and tons of plain cheerios. I can't remember any more what I relied on when pregnant with DD.

Re: Pregnancy Diet Staples

  • Think thin protein bars, because I can always choke one down to get something in my tummy if I'm feeling too nauseated to function. Peanut butter on gluten free crackers and sliced apple. I can pretty much always get one of those three things down and they're easy to take on the go.

  • I second @comealongponds with all the fruit. I bought a whole watermelon yesterday and it will be gone by Monday for sure.

I can eat a pineapple in a day. And probably half a watermelon....a full pint of stwarberries and/or blueberries...it's crazy! I guess it's better than craving crap all the time (not that I don't sometimes!)

I feel like since the only other thing I'm craving is cheese, balancing that with fruit isn't the worst diet I could imagine. It's not great, but I throw in grilled chicken and veggies every once in a while.

I LOVE pineapple but I'm highly allergic so it's the one fruit that I can't have right now even though I wish I could.
  • Half a PB&J sandwich is my 10am snack every single day...and lots and lots of watermelon!
  • ALLLLL I want right now is a Publix sub. If you aren't lucky enough to have a Publix grocery store near you, you are seriously missing out. They are the best subs you'll ever have. But since deli meat is a no no I haven't caved even though I really, really want to.

I think with my prior pregnancies I was vomiting so much I only ate stuff that came back up easily. Yogurt. Soup. Toast. This time I'm nauseous but haven't vomited much. I'm in love with pineapple pizza. I have it once a week. That and this Birdseye dish that is veggies in a garlic sauce.
  • Pretzel bagels with butter. And alllll the fruit.
I've never had a pretzel bagel but it sounds amazing. I've also been all about the bread and butter, and fruit. I actually did eat an entire pineapple by myself the other day. My tongue burned so bad after!

  • Jamba juice is consumed frequently. I have grilled cheese and PB&J a lot too. I try to eat fruit and veggies, but I'm still having issues with sour/tart flavors...

Fruits and vegetables, especially "water-heavy" ones - cucumber, green peppers, melon...
    Bagels w/ cream cheese.

We just got a Tim Horton's next to my job! Gonna have to try this amazing pretzel bagel.

Ive also been doing lots of bagels and cream cheese, cereal and fruit. Also snacking on almonds and granola bars. Decent amount of pizza and chips and salsa. Fresh salads are good but not loving cooked veggies.
  • Lots of melon and all the pizza. I really need to cut back on the pizza
  • I've been all about the baked french fries. It seems like the only thing I can keep down sometimes. In the event it can't be kept down it's one of the least offensive coming back up too.

After reading about Toast that actually sounds really good though I'm feeling like I should get some!

  • Coke and the bacon egg cheese bagel from mcdonalds. Lol...just keeping it real.
  • Chips. That pretty much sums it up. And agree with all the carbs!
I was craving a bagel yesterday, drove to Tim Horton's and got my usual double-toasted cheese bagel with extra butter. It was so good that I GOT A SECOND ONE and polished it off. That was at 11am.... Definitely went to bed at 930 that night.
  • I'm just so glad to be over my McChicken craving!! Now it's mostly carbs and cheese.

  • In the first tri it was all junk, but now I'm like @atcwag with th water-heavy fruits and veggies. Salads with romaine, tomatoes, and ranch dressing have been huge.

The he only other junk item is a regular coke. I think partially because of the caffeine (being unable to stomach coffee has me going through withdrawals). I need to stop.

  • El Monterey Chicken and Monterey Jack Cheese chimichangas...for breakfast. Initially I felt guilty, but lots of protein, and fewer calories than a breakfast sandwich.

  • Noah's Bagels (or Einstein's elsewhere?) also has pretzel bagels. They're bomb.

Omg I need a pretzel bagel in my life. ..seriously hating all I want is carbs (bread/fruit) this baby is ruining my strict paleo diet already
  • Now that im 15 weeks i have no nausea or aversions anymore so i can eat anything! So pretty much just my normal diet again now. Its incredible that just a few weeks ago i was struggling through hell on earth to function and gagging down luna bars at 4am. Now im making a rack of lamb and a 3 tiered cake for a baby shower. First trimesters are no joke! Think l'll make falafel tonight.
  • Seattleite86 yummy falafel!

I eat popcorn for my afternoon snack ea day. I've enjoyed cheerios with milk for breakfast and tell myself its heart healthy and the almond milk (calcium) is good for baby. :-)

I'm also pretty hooked on fruit! watermelon and grapes are my go to. I need to get some cuties too.
