Hello ladies,
Reintroducing myself, its been a few years. I'm getting ready to do another round of IVF and things are a little different this time and I need help from anyone with experience.
I am 33 and have tubal issues, 1 was removed and the other completely blocked. Husband is 33 and fine. We did IVF in 2013, 11 ER, 9 fertilized and 3 made it to day 5 transfer. They put 2 in for my fresh and 1 stuck (DD is 2), froze the last one. Did FET 2015, no luck. So back at the begging again but this time, RE suggests the genetic testing, says the success rates are 80%. He mentioned he hasn't done a fresh cycle in months, making me feel like I would be silly to try fresh again. (side note: at my clinic if genetic testing is done, they do a FET, no fresh). This will be our last cycle, so 80% looks good, but we are all out of pocket, so the expense that comes with it is something I cannot afford. So, I'm wondering if there is any way to up the amount of eggs fertilized, since I feel like 3 was a pretty low # and out of those, only one was good. Not to mention, I'm 3 years older now. My RE mentioned ICSI is automatically done when they do the testing but did not mention doing it if I do fresh, with no testing. I will speak with my RE about other options since we just found out the cost of the testing and can't do it, but wanted to know if any of you had any experience or suggestions.
I would also like to know people are still doing fresh IVF cycles and I'm not the only person who cant afford the genetic testing

Thanks!!

Re: Re-Intro and question about ICSI vs AH vs PGS testing (child mentioned)
Hi! We just finished our IVF cycle. We did ICSI, AH, and possibly the genetic testing. We did a study (Star Study) that was to see if PGS yields a higher success rate than the embryologist picking out the best looking embryo. We don't know if the first embryo was tested, it was a 5AA, the other 13 we retrieved have been tested, and it was of no cost since we participated in the study. This study closed just as we were signing up for it, but I know there is at least 1 other similar study happening right now. I do not remember the name, but I will go back and see if I can find it. Perhaps talk to your doctor to see if he is involved with anything like that. They still do fresh transfers at my clinic, but one of the nurses did mention that they much prefer frozen as they have seen a better success rate.
We were pretty much required to do ICSI as our issues are predominantly MFI (very low morph and okay but not good motility) our clinic also does this as a standard now (if I remember correctly), unless you request not to do it. Of the 26 eggs they harvested, 23 were mature, and 14 fertilized and made it to day five and were frozen. We also did assisted hatching, my clinic automatically does this with a FET.
My fingers are crossed for you, good luck!!

We did get a BFP yesterday, so I am not sure what to attribute it to, but God, science is awesome!!
Beta 5/9/2016 BFP!!
Embryo transfer scheduled for April 28, 2016 and beta test May 9, 2016 (day after Mother's Day!)
Transfer Meds include: Lupron Depot (4/1), Minivelle Patch (every 3rd day), Estradiol (3x daily), Amoxicillin, Progesterone in Oil, Methylprednisonlone. Lovenox and baby asprin added after transfer.
3/22/16 - Sono Saline ultrasound cyst to be aspirated on 4/1/16 if not cleared up by 3/29 US - It cleared on its own
Retrieval 3/4/16 - 26 eggs retrieved, 23 mature, 20 fertilized, 14 embryos currently frozen
Starting IVF Stims on +/- Feb 22, 2016
HSG scheduled for 1-26-16 - All clear "beautiful uterus" (though inverted)
Switched clinics and now prepping for IVF in February / March
Trying to conceive since November 2012
My clinic also prefers doing FETs because they like to do the PGS testing. Higher success rates definitely, since that way they are only transferring embryos that they know are healthy. However if you do the Megaset Trial they require you do a fresh transfer of one embryo after it has been biopsied for PGS testing, but the transfer occurs before you receive the results of the testing. So you won't know when the ET happens if the testing is normal. However hopefully you will have other frozen embryos from your ER. The purpose of this study is to compare gonal-f and menopur to determine if one is more successful than the other.
Good luck to you!
