TMI....I can't be the only one?

So, I had food poisoning for about 12 hours the other day. I had quite a shock though. NEVER IN MY LIFE has this happened but I couldn't stop from peeing myself when I was puking. It wasn't just a spot of pee either. Had I been in public, it would have been a total pee pants situation. Lol With every heave it was pee all over. There was NO stopping it!!!!! Is this my new normal? Not that I hardly ever puke but what if I would have been in public?! Also, I sneezed really hard the other day and peed just a little by enough to have to change. Ugh.

I told my DH I might have to carry extra pants and undies in our diaper bag just incase.

Re: TMI....I can't be the only one?

  • We had the flu about a month ago and this was totally me! I also never ever puke unless I am completely shitfaced which will probably never happen again, lol. But I was shocked! Every heave, I peed a little. Soooo embarrassing!!

  • This was me while pregnant with hyperemesis. As soon as I felt the wave of nausea I rushed to pee first lol. Thankfully in my closest bathroom at home I can throw up in the sink while sitting on the toilet. Otherwise I throw up in a bowl while sitting on a toilet. If I'd recently peed I could cross my legs and be ok. I haven't thrown up since delivery, so I don't know if it's gone away.

  • I haven't thrown up in a long time but I do think it's a good idea to always carry a change of clothes.  My ability to "hold it" is very minimal.  I have about 5 minutes from the urge to pee to find a bathroom.  It's been this way for 4 years - ever since baby #2. :(

  • I had a 24 hour stomach thing couple weeks ago and yes peed like crazy and I was in public thankful for working in a hospital where I can change my scrubs easy for or scrubs

Okay, I'm not alone in my pee pants! It is just such a weird sensation! I never had morning sickness and hardly ever puke in general. I wasn't ready for this at all!!! Can we do anything to help it? Those Keagle exercises?! ***runs out to put spare yoga pants and undies in the car***
  • So glad I'm not alone... Haven't admitted this to anyone, luckily like all of my clothes are black... (I'm a ninja) so no one has noticed me change
  • I did this every single time I puked when pregnant. I haven't thrown up since, but I had a cold about a week ago and had to wear those depends undies because my bladder emptied whenever I coughed.
  • I got terrible stomach flu when I was pregnant and before I got ridiculously dehydrated (hospitalized twice in a week) I peed EVERYWHERE. Total pee pants situation! I always thought I was just a really violent puker!! Lol
  • My sister still has this problem and my nephew is 12 years old.

Omg that's what I was worried of! It never goes away?!
  • I sneezed and peed myself to the point I had to change the other day lol you're not alone
  • I had the bright idea for my 30th birthday to have everyone come to a huge trampoline gym - the first bounce up into the air and I completely voided my bladder. SOAKED my pants. Everyone saw. Mortifying. But I can't help it - it just happens when I sneeze or jump... What can we about it? Do keegles really help with this??

Omg! I'm so sorry. I did giggle just a tiny bit only because this is classic me! I would do this!!! I don't know if keegles help with this?! I was the one who mentioned it above. Idk!!? And I only have one LO. Does it get worse each time??
  • I don't know if there's anything you can really do to help or fix it.. I don't have that issue (though I fully expected I would postpartum) and I honestly never did anything to prevent it like keegals. I think it just happens. :/

  • I have started to work on my pelvic floor with exercises because I totally get this. I almost pee myself everytime I laugh to hard now. My SO thinks it's funny to make me laugh because I now habitually grab my crotch out of fear of peeing.
  • Interestingly enough I'm starting pelvic floor therapy tomorrow. Check with your PCP or Gyn, you don't have to live with it!!
I'm not really sure what this therapy will entail, but the website says Physical Therapists trained in this are able to give pelvic exams  :o

Can you let me know how it goes?! I'm so curious and am nervous to ask about it. PM me maybe?! I hope it helps.

As far as whether or not it ever goes away....(sigh)

Yeah...so far, not so much.  But I did have five babies so I've got to be a statistical outlier on this one.

The weird thing is, given how much worse the nausea/vomiting has been with each passing pregnancy, there's a pretty large combined/cumulative effect of pants peeing while pregnantly puking when you've already had a baby.  Not that I am pregnant currently.  Just fondly remembering how much worse I peed myself this time than in previous pregnancies.

    100% worth it, though.

  • I'm only 19 years old and did kegels all through pregnancy but I pee when I vomit too  :|

I have no problems when laughing or coughing or running, just vommitting and SKIPPING. Almost peed myself in the middle of a PT session at the gym HAHA.
  • @LoveLee85 unfortunately I had to cancel my first session today because my 2 year old woke up and 5 a.m puking and didn't stop til 10. I'm rescheduled for Monday and after I see what it's all about I definitely plan on writing a post because I think it will help others.
  • I had the norovirus twice (yes twice!) in the month of March. Let's just say you should all be very happy all you did was pee yourself when you vomited!

@backatac I know exactly what you are talking about!  I had norovirus in Dec and went through the same thing.  I've been doing pelvic floor therapy for a few months now due to some other pelvic pain problems I was having from birth, but it definitely helped with this issue too. When I got the stomach bug again last month it was no longer a problem due to the PT I've been doing, thank goodness!
  • Question about pelvic floor pain: I have been having these extreme painful sharp pains INSIDE me. Like in my uterus is what I tell my DH. If I get up too fast, or bend over, etc. it's been happening for a few months. The pain is so low, sharp, intense...but random over the past few months. More and more the last few weeks. Does this sound like anything to anyone?!

Noro is the worst thing everrrr.  We got it over and over again this spring.  I'm scared to even type that it's over, because someone is going to get sick again!

@LoveLee85, doesn't sound familiar but maybe check in w/ your doc.  Do you have an IUD or anything that might have moved?

I've found that crossing my legs when I sneeze prevents the pee. The past 2 days I went jogging. Pee everywhere :(
  • @LoveLee85 similar to round ligament pain?  I had that with all three of my pregnancies.  That pain came back for me about a month ago out of no where and is gone again.  I'm not PG.  I wonder if it was a cyst?

I would say pretty similar to round ligament pain! Honestly, it all started up when I started hardcore working out and going tons of crunch and such. I just remember it was out of nowhere and very painful! Hasn't happened in a few days now. I'm praying it's gone for good! Maybe my mid section just wasn't ready for crazy movement and crunches?!
  • I feel like pelvic floor therapy should be a mandatory part of post natal care, not just a stupid 6 or 8 week checkup that basically tells you nothing. A moms group I'm in had a pelvic floor therapist come in who explained that any incontinence is a sign of an issue and it is reversible but it does take work. Yes, kegels will help, but there's more than 1 way to do a Kegel, and there are multiple layers to the pelvic floor that the different types of kegels will help. She also recommended basically vaginal weights that you can either hold in your vagina all day or do little weight lifting sessions every day. Ask your doc for a referral to a pelvic floor specialist and get your bladder control back! I only pee a little when I'm having a severe allergy sneeze attack. I jog, have had all day vomiting, and sneeze a lot with no leaking.

Honestly, it wasn't until the bump that I had ever heard of pelvic floor anything after pregnancy?!?! My doctor never mentioned anything, ever. I'll have to call and tell them I'm having issues. Ugh. I was just getting use to not going to the doctor all the time.

Once I had food poisoning so bad that as I was throwing up, I also pooped myself. Both were happening at the same time and there was no stopping it. I wasn't expecting it, so I didn't know to sit on the toilet and use a waste bin to throw up in. It was just a mess. An awful, awful mess. LOL

When I was pregnant and sick, I peed myself (like full out peed myself) multiple times while barfing.

    I've led a glamorous life.

Me too! I have to make sure I go to the bathroom frequently so it doesn't slip out when I sneeze or cough! I'm fine unless my bladder is pretty full, and sadly I have a small bladder!
