Nursery Organization

I know we've talked a bit about decor, etc., but is anyone else struggling with how to organize things? Have you found any products that are making organization easier? I'm a FTM and baby items are just so tiny, I don't even know what to do with them! I'm planning on getting some drawer organizers to help keep things separated a little better. I'm also considering an over the door closet organizer, but to be honest, I'm not even sure what I would put in it. I would love to see/hear about everyone's progress!

  • Not sure how much space you have, but baskets and storage bins work great for tiny onesies, socks, shirts, pants, etc...

  • I have a good amount of space. We have a 6 drawer dresser that will double as a changing table and a decent sized closet. I really like the way this looks!

  • I bought these from ikea to organize the dresser drawers. They come in white and black. Great for keeping little socks and rolled up onesies separate.

The ikea roll cart for a moving diaper station so I can move it to our room at night and move it to the nursery when they get older.

Three large canvas totes from the land of nod to store toys.

And closet set organizer hangers from this etsy shop.

@midwestbaby I love the Ikea cart for a rolling diaper station! Great idea!

I definitely plan to use drawer organizers for the tiny onesies, socks, etc.  We don't have a ton of closet space so I will probably hang only nicer outfits.  Bigger sizes will stay stored in boxes until we need to swap them out.  As much as I'd love to display everything we just don't have the space.

  • Anyone have any suggestions for cloth diapers? I feel like they explode out of anywhere I try to put them.

  • Clothes are all going in the dresser. There is no way in hell I'm spending time hanging little onsies lol. I may use shoeboxes inside the drawer to separate socks/ hats/ mittens. The top of the dresser will be the changing pad and I ordered this to actually hang from the side of the dresser and hold the diapers, wipes, creams. Even though it says "over the door" so you picture huge, it's absolutely perfect size: a foot wide and just over 2 feet tall. It would look tiny and ridiculous hanging from a door in my opinion lol.

My H installed 2 shelves in the closet below the "normal" shelf so we'll use those for things like diaper boxes, sheets, chest carriers, boppy. We really don't have much room for a toy chest or bookshelf so the basement play area is going to have cubbies similar to the picture above with that kind of stuff.

I bought a bunch of the ikea storage bins! They are perfect for the small baby things (socks, diapers, lotions) Bonus: I even use them in my linen closet for extras and makeup.
  • @midwestbaby  I am also using the ikea cart for all the diaper changing items. I currently have the teal one in DD's walk in closet. It holds all of her hair accessories and jewelry.
  • @Allisun85, I'm doing cloth diapers as well!

Since the dresser is doubling for the changing table, I plan to use the top drawers for diapers that are in rotation. I have a hanging organizer that I think I'll use for sizes that I'm not using at the time. I plan to get some drawer dividers to keep things a little neater with the diapers. I still need to wash diapers, but once I get them washed and in the drawers, I'll try to remember to post a picture. :-) I made a deal with myself that I had to get caught up on our laundry before I start washing diapers I won't need for a few more months.

  • We have this storage cube in DD's closet with some fabric storage bins.  Along with a wide, 6-drawer dresser that we also use for changing, she has plenty of storage.  I plan to order another of the storage cubes for new baby's closet.  We've been using this storage caddy from PBK atop the dresser for diaper stuff (although diapers themselves in one of the top drawers), and it's been great and holds a lot of stuff.  But for baby boy, we're planning to keep all the diaper paraphernalia in storage over the dresser like this photo:

  • I'm using this closet I found on Pinterest as inspiration (aka - I'm copying it almost exactly)! She breaks down how she organized each bin in her post. I also like the idea of using a hanging shoe organizer for storing clothes like onesies, pants, etc.

  • @peachgal23 I really wanted a pegboard like that but H didn't want to drill holes in the wall.
  • I have some closet space I would like to hang some outfits. I am an ikea girl my bed has the draws under it i probably use for blankets or I was thinking about under the crib. We invested in the crib with the change table for more space. In the draws on the table i placed ikea divides already for hair clips, socks, stockings
  • @Allisun85 I use a dresser with a changing table on top for cloth.  I started out using one drawer but cloth slowly took over the entire dresser.  I have seen people put cubbies on the walls for diapers but I like my walls free for other decorations.
  • @justaudrey I've pinned the same photo and plan to refer to it for closet organization, too!
