TTC After a Loss

Hey Everyone

Hi guys, Im new to this board. I joined The Bump and was so happily a part of the December 16 group. I had a miscarriage two weeks ago, d&c on the 27th, and received my pathology last week. I have been posting on the Miscarriage/Loss board but wanted to get active here too.

Im 28, SO is 30, Ive had 3 Miscarriages, and im terrified of trying again. Its hard this time because I thought this one was the one. I had a great first u/s, the baby was perfect, and had a beautiful hb. But two weeks after my scan, I knew something was wrong, went for a u/s and found out baby no longer had a hb. I should of been 8w2d and baby measured exactly 8w2d. I had the d&c and  I received my path report which came back Triploidy, 69 xxy, partial molar. Im devastated. I met with my Dr and I now have to be followed to zero. As of right now I have blood drawn every two weeks. He wants to do this for 6 months, then blood draw 1 time a month for another 6. This will prevent me from being allowed to conceive for 1 year. If everything goes as planned I can ttc after that year but if my hcg rises or doesnt fall enough we will take the next step, which is dealing with the cells.

Im devastated that Im sidelined, I was wanting to try right away. Since this is my 3rd miscarriage, I am super cautious but my Dr seems to think that this was a one time thing. Has anyone dealt with a partial molar before? What was your wait time?

Thanks in advance for replies. Im glad to have these boards boards and have received so much support. Sorry for such a long post.

    Sorry for your losses.
I had a D&C in October for an assumed partial molar.  My path report came back fine though, so it turned out I had just had a missed miscarriage.  However, my doctor told me beforehand that if it were full or partial molar that I'd have to wait at least 6 months before TTC again.  As I understood it, essentially they have to wait for the levels to return to 0 and to stay there because if even a small piece of the molar was missed it can grow again and cause serious issues. Since they are monitoring the hcg levels for a molar regrowth, if you become pg again, your hcg would rise and they wouldn't know whether it was an actual pg or a return of the molar, which is why the wait time tends to be so high.  Or at least, that's what I understood my doctor to be telling me.

  • I don't have any experience with molar pregnancies but I want to stop and say I'm sorry for your losses. I would be really disappointed if I was benched for a year. I really hope that all tissue/material has passed so you an move forward.

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say I am so sorry for your losses.
  • I'm very sorry for you loss and for the long bench time. It must be both scary and frustrating. This is a nice place to hang out, though. There's almost always someone benched here, so it's nice to relate. The TTGP board has a weekly Benched/TTA thread also. I participated once but then I didn't again because I was unbenched rather quickly. There are a lot of loss moms over there as well.
  • I am so sorry for your losses. My first loss was a suspected PM. It ended up not being one after all, but I was told it would be a 6 month bench time if it ended up being one.

  • Welcome to the board, @glitter. I am sorry for your losses. It is such a difficult situation to navigate. I am also sorry that your prognosis may include being benched for that time. I don't have experience with molar pregnancies, but with three losses, I wanted to ask if you are seeing an RE yet or if you have plans to? Perhaps you could use some of this time to explore reasons for your recurrent losses. Some REs focus on RPL and that may be a good way to use that time... I hope you have some answers soon. Big hugs to you.

  • I am so sorry for your losses. I myself had had 4 MC (unexplained) and one ectopic 3 months ago. Being benched feels like the end of the world I definitely understand. Time goes slow at first and then flys by. soon enough you'll be back and we will all be here through the wait and longer. Feel free to message me if you need anything. Lots of love

Thanks so much guys. I knew before posting that id receive a warm welcome. That is one thing ive learned quickly here at the bump, i love it, and I'm so glad I stumbled onto it. Thanks again, you guys are awesome. @fivetimesnoluck I haven't made an appt yet, Im not sure if I will as of now. I guess I will see how this partial molar healing goes. I got my hcg back today, it was 99. Its great that its down to 100 but we now have to wait, I get bloods every 2 weeks. It has to drop more than a few numbers so I hope so.

This is my third mc but my first two were 5 weeks or less and I was faced with a lot of stress during both. I had lost my mom, then A grandma, then was caring for my other gran who had brain cancer. I had high blood pressure too so my Dr really thinks that my first two were chromosomal or bad timing. He also said this one seems to be a one time thing. He gave me encouragement and said I should try again when able. If I then miscarry again, we will seek an re.

Im on Birth Control for at least 6 months. During this Im going to work on my overall health, lose a few pounds, eat cleaner, and maintain it. Im going to improve my lifestyle, i dont drink or do any drugs but I need to keep my blood pressure stable, stress less, and have a better outlook.  I really think all this will help, or I hope. I hate being on BC but Its for the best, its going to give my body time to heal and be a healthier area for baby. Im nervous about the bc though cause it makes me sick, but its my only option, well or stay away from SO, which lol isnt an option.

Thank you all, I hope to continue posting and tag along for everyones journey.

  • @Glitter I commend you on your positive attitude during this whole experience...I hope that your time being benched will allow you some healing and relieve some stress. *hugs*
  • @glitter I hope you don't think I'm trying to be snarky or sassy, but if BC makes you sick, are condoms a viable option? Is your OB recommending hormonal BC for a specific reason?

Also, you have had three losses now, and even though this one was partial molar, you should be able to see an RE now. It may be worth looking into. I would hate to see you have another needless loss if they can help uncover something for you.

    Just some thoughts I had.
  • I'm so sorry for your losses
