Any Day Now

"Any day now" is what I've heard from my OB for the past few weeks. At first, it made me hopeful, but now it's getting a little annoying. I understand that there's no way to predict how long it will be and that eventually it'll be true, but it seems like the line is used pretty loosely by our OBs.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Re: Any Day Now

  • My OB hasn't specifically said this to me, but it's the standard response I am giving to random people that ask what my due date is. I'm sick of the look I get when I say it's 2 weeks away still.

  • Lol  my midwife once said to me "people who have this many Braxton Hicks and can feel them this early on don't tend to go far beyond their due dates."  They gave me hope until I realized it really meant absolutely nothing ...what do you mean won't go far beyond my due date? Lol! Early? Or late... Both possible haha

My dr has been really good about not saying anything to make him liable. He's honest about it all. I'll ask pointed questions and he dodges them so well. He tells me he can't give me an exact size of the baby, nor can he tell me the timeline of when the baby will be here. A little bit annoying but I appreciate that he doesn't know and is okay to tell me that.
My doctor is similar and wont guesstimate baby's size or when I'll go into labor because she knows it isn't going to be accurate. Agree that it's annoying but I'd think less of her for making stuff up, especially if she turned out to be wrong.

Yes!!!! I have an  appt on the 6th and he was telling me at my last one we may not even keep it, baby could already be here! Stop getting me excited!!! I feel like I have an early due date anyways and it's still gonna be a few more weeks away! Not "any day" now!!!! Grrr.
  • I'm due on May 9th, and at my 38 week appointment my midwife said "he could come any day, but plan for him to come at his due date or later"
  • At my last appointment, the doctor said "it could be tomorrow or it could be two weeks," which I think/hope is pretty fair. Certainly I'd like to believe I won't have to deal with this false labor garbage for more than two weeks.

So even if it turns out her prediction will be wrong and I'll be stuck like this to my due date or beyond, I'm just putting my fingers in my ears and going LA LA LA because I do not want to know. Let me have my blind faith in that guess, it's all that's keeping me sane right now.

I get the opposite at work. People suggesting I'm ready to pop or will suggest it could be any day now. I'm 4 weeks from my due date. I think we get the same look from people.
  • My Dr. told me the same thing... "could be any day now." Even though he didn't check my cervix, didn't realize that he had already told me I didn't pass my 1 hr glucose test (come on, that was awhile ago and already said and done), and didn't ask or talk about impending labor signs or emergency signs. He has an amazing track record with delivering babies so I know I'm in good hands or whatever. But really man, take some better notes and glance at them BEFORE walking into the room with the patient so that they at least think you sort of remember them. Most people that know me and my previous pregnancies are assuming I will deliver late. My mom isn't coming out to stay until after my due date has passed.

  • Lol my neighbor said, "Looks like you're ready to have a baby tomorrow!" I told him I'm at least a month away and he laughed. No, seriously, I'm like 4 weeks 4 days away from my EDD.
  • I feel like "any day now!" Is the equivalent of losing your mucus plug, it means absolutely nothing
  • My doctor always says "2 weeks before or after your due date is completely normal." I think if he tried to guess and was wrong I would be pretty pissy. Why do they have to say anything in the first place?

I wonder what they base these guesses on. My doc seems to lean towards an early delivery for me, but my baby measured in an average range. What makes your midwife think you could be late? I just wish there was a better way to tell, I'm so ready lol
  • All my doctor has said is she doesn't think I'll go to 41 weeks...well I guess that's a relief, if she's right! I went to 40w+6 with DS and let me tell you those were the longest 6 days of my life!

She's going by the fact that I'm a first time mom , and FTMs "usually" deliver at or after their due date. It's like a random quirk of the universe. Babys measuring right on time and everything. I think also they don't want me to get too hung up on the due date, since it was made based on my LMP and we weren't really trying or anything so we aren't exactly sure when we got pregnant.
  • That's all I say to people. Strangers even. I walk by and they stare like  :o
I just nonchalantly say any day now yup. It really will be because we don't know 100%.

  • When my doctor checked me last, she asked me if I knew what it meant if everything was still high and tight.  I said nothing.  She said what if I tell you you're at a 2?  I said still nothing!

  • Thanks to my wonky bp (no other signs of pre-eclampsia) I got straight up told Thursday "so.....let's have this baby Monday(38 weeks 1 day)." I immediately started crying since it is a bit early for this first time mom and I worry be will not have cooked long enough but also as a huge relief that we have a date.

  • I am a STM due 5/4 and literally no signs of labor. With DS I had him 40+3 so I am prepared to go over my due date but I just feel like my body was much more "ahead of the game" than it is now. I hear the 2nd + pregnancies come faster and quicker. Feeling like this baby is never planning on coming out!
  • When I met with one of my friends yesterday who has done some u/s tech work in the past, she totally freaked out and told me I shouldn't have even been able to make it out yesterday because, in her opinion, I am too dilated at 3 cm. to make it much longer. In her words, it could be any second, not any day.

Well, still here and pregnant nearly 24 hours later after running normal errands and taking my pup on an hour walk last night.

DH was pissed. He's nearly as tired of this as I am. No more false hope!!!

I have a friend that walked around at 4cm for a month before she delivered. I was 3cm for 3 weeks with my last, and my sil has gotten to advanced dilation (past 5) and stalls for a week with several of her 8 kids.
  • This is week two of "any day now" - next weekly appointment is tomorrow and if this dr says "any day now" I might punch him.  It is not reassuring or encouraging any more - "just keep smiling" was a lot more helpful from last week's doc. This should fall under if you don't have anything nice/factual to say don't say anything...

I guess I should be happy that my doctor said I have a GOOD two to three weeks left.  At least I'm not getting my hopes up and if she comes before then I can be happy.  lol
