Teething sleep

Just wondering how teething had affected sleep for your LOs and what you do when they're having trouble when a tooth is coming in.

We just popped our first tooth a few days ago and it has really been bothering him at night. I had him trained pretty well where he was sleeping all night in his crib, going to bed awake, and only waking 2 or 3 times. But now... He has started crying like mad when we put him in the crib for bed, and after he wakes I cannot get him back in it without a meltdown. If he falls asleep nursing I cannot transfer him without him waking (like, it is impossible) and I feel like letting him cry while he's in pain is terrible, so I've given in and just put him in bed with me. He wakes at least 5x a night now. I just don't know what to do since a lot of it is probably teething related, but I don't want these habits sticking! It's a tough call :(

Re: Teething sleep

  • Teething tablets before before or ambesol, and Tylenol of warm and super fussy. He wakes up whining a lot when he's about to pop one but those remedies seem to ease it
  • Loading the player...
  • We bought an amber teething necklace and use this homeopathic teething liquid that has chamomile in it. Plus we bought a dock a tot which has helped a lot. It makes his sleep better and more quality I think. Sometimes I use Motrin but only a couple days a week if he is miserable.  I keep reading that ambesol can harden their gums due to the parabens in it so it can make teething even harder. And that it can get in their throats and can cause them to stop breathing? But I can't seem to find the clinical proof for it. It's all just people's paranoia I think.  So I avoid teething tablets and ambesol completely. F teething.
  • I had heard that as well, but I will look into it some more. I am so mad, I have an Amber teething necklace and I can't find it!!! I haven't heard of dock a tot, so I'll see what the deal is with that, thanks!
  • ibuprofen, cuddles, comfort nursing and just rolling with it. they will sleep again. my LO is 8 months and has 7 teeth..there have been some tough times but if you obsess about where they sleep it will make you crazy. let them sleep wherever as long as they are safe
  • Tylenol and the dock a tot are the only things that seem to help, dmbfan46835, do you know the name of the teething liquid you use? I would love an alternative to the Tylenol...
  • Thanks so much! Poor kid was miserable mothers day even with the Tylenol, I'll have to give it a try
  • How long do you find the teething sleep trouble lasts every time they've got one coming in? I feel like he'll never get back to sleeping well!
